Deputy Senate President's Heart Felt Speech by EMXTAN1(op): 10:39pm On Jun 27, 2016
PRESS STATEMENT BY IKE EKWEREMADU DEMOCRACY ON TRIAL I presented myself to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court today as an ordinary citizen of this great nation to plead NOT GUILTY to charges I did not and could not have committed. It is deeply troubling to note that people in high places who swore to uphold the law have dwindled into purveyors of falsehood and rumours who seek to smear and tarnish the reputation of law abiding and responsible citizens as well as cripple the hallowed institutions of democracy. It is all the more disheartening that people who should know better use the colour of their office to pursue private vendetta against people they disagree with. This grotesque display of vindictiveness, arrogance, and mindless targeting of innocent citizens should find no sanctuary in our democracy. Using the machinery of justice to create disorder is a dangerous and invidious scheme that ultimately will lead Nigeria down the road to perdition. It is Senator Bukola Saraki and Senator Ike Ekweremadu today, who knows whose turn it will be next? I am a law-abiding citizen and believe in the rule of law and all the rights and privileges it advertises. But, even at that, it is only in my place not to commit crime, but way out of my reach not to be accused of one, especially when instruments of power become apparatuses for oppression of the innocent and voices of opposition. Indeed, I, in no way or fashion, claim to be above the law, just that I believe that the law should not be used as an instrument to bludgeon innocent citizens into submitting to the untamed wishes and caprices of witch-hunters. However, I put my trust in God, the court, and the overwhelming solidarity of the good people of Nigeria. When the dust settles, Nigerians will see clearly that this charge is nothing but meretricious thrash. Time, occasions, and provocations like this will teach their own lessons. I hope that one chief lesson will be that democracy differs markedly from military rule and that public officer should never subvert the foundations of democracy by prioritizing the rule of man over the rule of law. Let us make no mistake about this: it is not Senator Ike Ekweremadu or Senator Bukola Saraki or the other accused persons that are on trial; rather the hallowed democratic principles of separation of powers, rule of law, the legislature, and indeed democracy itself are on a ridiculous trial. Mere anarchy is unleashed upon the land, but our courage must not fall apart. No condition is permanent and nothing lasts forever. For me, I find great comfort in the immortal words of late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe who said that history will vindicate the just and the wicked will not go unpunished. SENATOR IKE EKWEREMADU, PhD, CFR Deputy President of the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria June 27, 2016

Hard talk and straight to d point. Epistle like this is d reason I respect lawyers and envy their 'learned' toga. How can d loquacious Femi Adesina translate these highly sounding vocabulary to his 'Oga @ d top'. Going thru this once again, it must be clearly stated DAT being a Constitutional Lawyer no be groundnut. New words like 'bludgeon' and 'meretricious' with other didactic figures of speech made d time spent for reading worth d while. A case of forgery against d legislature can only be sustained in d court by only member(s) of d natnl assembly as litigant(s) else any other person is a locus interloper cos we practise separation of powers. But like seriously, has d govt ever contemplated on d extrapolated and far reaching implications of d outcome of removal the natnl Assembly hierarchy? Does it not amount u can not build something on nothing? Does it not mean that all d actions and inactions carried out by d natnl Assembly leadership including d screening of d Ministers including the AGF will be voided?. Its painful dat d executive is drinking panadol for other persons headache not minding we are here drinking panadol for d headache they (the FG) caused us thru their medieval economic policies. How is this national assembly brouhaha our utmost problems now? For me and most others PMB Certificate forgery case is a better episode. Rhetoric! Rhetoric!! Rhetoric!!!

how is Ike Ekweremadu related to u biko?
Is ur maternal or paternal side?
Re: Deputy Senate President's Heart Felt Speech by pharmagba:
Permit me to say, all what he wrote are conjecture of admission of guilt and subtle plea, Hear him:

that public officer should never subvert the foundations of democracy by prioritising the rule of man over the rule of law.

that are on trial are rather the hallowed democratic principles of separation of powers,
rule of law, the legislature, and indeed democracy itself are on a ridiculous trial.

Is the whole deputy senate president relegating the judiciary to inconsequential? Is it not said this is the last hope for the common man? Now for the powerful and mighty the judiciary is ridiculous.

No condition is permanent and nothing lasts forever.
Cheap and idle threat.

It is disheartening to know that these are the people we have in the senate. Senator Ekweremadu a lawyer and a PHD holder really disappointed me. I expected a more cerebral presentation of facts and law but lo admission of guilt and whipping of sentiment.
What a shame

This is still rubbish Mr Okoromadu. Wait let the court prove your innocence. Your fellows in that same chamber petitioned you. So what's our business with that?
David pushed Saraki, and Saraki pushed you. You sef look for Rhino Melaye and push na. By the time you people push enter Kuje, una head go straight.

Rubbish. Equity demands that whoever wants to use it must make sure that his/her hands are clean.

What exactly are these people ( Saraki/ Ike and their supporters) crying for huh

Is the court and the judiciary only meant for trying the poor members of the public ?

An allegation was raised against you by your fellow colleagues in the Senate and a petition was written to the Chief law officer of the federation, he decided to toe the path of law by asking you to come and defend yourselves in the court of law under the third arm of government and now they now started crying as if they are been taking to the hangman to be executed.

Saraki and his goons should just respect themselves and get some good lawyers to defend their case. simple.

Why should I expect you to understand what a CRIMINAL case is?

How can a 13 year kid comprehend what a CRIMINAL charge can do to one's reputation?

Can a baby really figure the injustice that's being done when a tyrant uses state aparatus to oppress and victimize the law abiding opposition?

My only prayer is that this little man would soon be picked up in his street and audaciously taken to court for a crime he knew nothing about.

May it be that his bail condition would be high and require that he'd remanded in prison for a season.

May be by then he would be able to make sense of what Cheif Ike Ekweremmadu just said.

I hope every of your prayers return to every adult male in your family from this generation to many generations.

just tell your thieving brother to go clear his soiled name. I wonder why it is every time they are exposed for crime committed by them that they discovered that the judiciary is not independent, they remember there is something called justice , they shout and scream witch hunting even why the petition and the charge sheet is very clear enough on their case.

Quit aiding and supporting corruption mr old man and strive to be a good example so you can have one or two sane youths from your village if not your family.

Hey yeah, just a victim of circumstances. If the case is successful, then its both Saraki and Ekweremadu. Party issues solved.

All I can figure out from the write up is admission of
guilt and whipping of sentiment from the same common man they have oppressed for ages............

How can this same man accept that he is not above the law and the judiciary is the last hope of the common man yet he sees a forgery case against him as a fight against democracy and the legislative arm of the Government using the state apparatus?

We have thousands of innocent Nigerians in the prison who have spent years there without trial yet, in Ike Ekweremmadu's many years in the Senate he has never remembered making laws that will stop that kind of cruelty metted out daily on the poor masses

If not for anything, just for seeing the "untouchables before"
Been touched and even docked for allegations they would have gone free from in the past remains a major reason my support for Buhari will keep increasing as the days go by

We can't keep doing the same thing and expect a different result.

C how u hv become the Court and the Judge @ d same time.

U called him thief, on what ground?

Last time I checked he was being accused of forging Senate Rule.

A wise man once told me, if u don't prioritize u end up achieving nothing.

My question is, upon all the problem ravaging Nigeria masses now, is Fightn the legislature arm of Government that is suppose to checkmate the Executive the most important thing now?

Do u want a Legislatures that will be Slaves to the executive or the one that will stand firm 2 checkmate it's tyrannical tendencies?

The future of this country has never been this deem.

Let me remind u that the biggest forgery is when som1 is illegally occupying the Number one sit of the Nation.

That is the biggest form of corruption..

Posterity will judge us all.
