This man will earn my respect forever with his book, the concubine....

The plot is one of the best av come across by a nigerian author.,,, The elegant style of writing by which he carried his readers along in the concubine is amazing,.

Damn,.., rip Elechi Amadi...

Compare his style with Chimananda. Not read his book.

Awwww, Elechi Amadi. After 'The Concubine', 'Great Ponds' remains my all time favourite.

The last of a dying breed. Very few from his generation remain. Wole Soyinka, JP Clark are some of the very last greats.

RIP sir cry

Point out one part of my post that is false.

The characters in " the concubine" were repeately referred as Ibos by the Young Elechi Amadi, is it not obvious that Elechi considered himself an Ibo, when he was writing that story line?

Is it not true that after the war, Elechi Amadi metamorphosed to Relechi Ramadi and was the the cheerleader in the Igbophophic campaign that had since taken root and grown into an Orji tree in Ikwerrreland today?

Did Relechi Ramadi not doctor a book where he claimed against all known human rationality and logic, that Ikwerre migrated from Bini and are Bini people?

Did Relechi Ramadi not become irrelevant in the literature world after the civil war when he became consumed with Igbophobia and reduced himself to a parochial writer blinded by Igbophobic sentiments?
very relevant questions, keep it up

Go and sit down. The Concubine had an Igbo touch of greatness in it, as the story line was Igbo, but it's still a learner to the Chinua Achebe's holy trinity, ie, Things Fall apart, Arrows of God, No longer at ease.

Elechi the Igbo man was a great writer, Elechi the Ikwerre man had nothing more to offer the world than Igbophobia, and so he fizzled out of relevance.

The literature world doesnt respect the ethnic group of an Individual, if Elechi was any better than he was, the world would know and would have offered him due respect.

He( Elechi Amadi) had nothing on Achebe.

I read Elechi Amadi's books while growing up and I could easily notice in his books before and after the civi war how he changed from being pro-igbo before the civil war to anti-igbo after the war.

Funny, my late maternal grandmother's (from Enugu state) name was Elechi.

Rumu badu owa! Annu zi ojoo! Chi okike I nu pa ele?

seems we are in the same ship, his book " the great ponds" opened my eyes to African novels and novelists. Your talent will always keep you alive in the hearts of men. Rip.
I read 'Great Ponds' four times during my youth service. That book is one of the funniest and most interesting African novels I've ever read

2. Why do u love the ikwerre people so much and would do anything to have a common relationship or origin with us?
3. Why are u having insomnia becos of the ikwerres?
4. Is your destiny in ikwerre land?

You are even going far into the world of the dead.

How about in our present world? Ebonyi state's immediate past Governor, is his name no longer Martin Elechi?

The confusionist, who sowed the seed of Igbophobia on the heart of Ikwerre youths.

He wrote the Concubine when he was "Ibo" and it reflected on the novel, as he kept making reference to the great "Ibo".

RIP to him.

He made reference to 'Ibo' in 'The Concubine'? Did you read the same novel I read?

Lol! There he goes rambling about again after his intellect and ad hominem attacks failed to yield any result.

I have noticed one thing about many Ikwerre youths, most of them are incapable of arguing rationally.

Yes he did.

Uh... I've read the book several times. I read it again as recently as '14. I'm pretty sure he did not use the term 'Ibo' for his characters. You are mistaken.

Perhaps the general 'Igbo' feel of the novel led you to unconsciously assume that he did use the word. But he did not.

You can read it one million times, but the fact remain that he continuously used lines like " amongst the Ibo".

It's been long I read that novel, but it's hard to forget that, I am not close to my copy now, but I will get it tomorrow and Post the chapters and lines I am talking about.

so by adulterating the name "Nwabueze" as Wabueze you have created a different ethnic group? Ikwerres are yeye people, do this ppl know that others in enugu or anambra also pronounce the name as "Wabueze" in their dialects too but do not write it like that but write in standardized igbo??

He lived a quiet life, each time we drive pass his house in Aluu we are reminded of the simplicity of humanity.

Like Fela, his works will continue to impact not only Nigeria but our global village.

The University of Port Harcourt mourns our writer - in - residence.

Adieu Dr Elechi Amadi
