I'm not a regular member but recently the progress of Nairaland is disturbing. Nairaland was created before many known site yet it progression is not rapid. Here's a list of challenges disturbing Nairaland [\b] from blooming. [b] Familiarity If you check most recent threads, they all have one thing in common 'cc:lalasticlala,' or other moderators. It is quite unfortunate moderators respond efficiently to this. Irrelevant threads are multiplying because the members are tagging moderators unnecessarily and no punishment has been created for it. Frontpage Frontpage is the most important aspect of this forum. This is what determines the number of visitors, not only that, it is also what determine how frequent they should visit. Most of this forum issues starts with the Frontpage: the background - the website design of Nairaland is stale. You need to add more features and advance the front page. Make it more unique and interesting, Categorizing - filtering the front page is necessary, it determines the health of this forum. If you can't get rid of all the irrelevant threads from Frontpage, you can at least categorize it to a lower segment and make the relevant ones more visible, Quantity - it is no news that the frontpage most consist of local news and happenings but the forum is now bigger, there should be a way of getting important foreign news. For example, the release of Kayne West new video was trending everywhere, but it could not be found on Nairaland's frontpage. To cut the long story short, there should be a new website design for this forum and categories of threads on frontpage. I.e Celebrity: Chris Brown comments on Kayne West Video Education: Unilorin Post Utme Registration is a rumor General: threads about boobs and famous people personal life issues should at the lowest segment of the frontpage. Moderators Moderators on this forum are few or less active. More moderators are needed and they should not be voted for, instead new moderators should be selected due to thier activities, contributions and time. Selecting moderators by people's choice will worsen situation. Moderators are lagging in many aspects: responding, activities, they ban without checking the person in question (if he/she does what he/she is reported for or if it was just a mistake). There's a recent thread 'Don't Open,' the thread is very irrelevant and the member involved deserved to be punished. If I don't call it to attention nothing would have been done to it. Rules And Regulations The rules are regulations are discarded as members don't pay attention to it anymore. During the Miss NL final, whosoever in charge stated the winner not only in bold caps but with irrelevant color. Many saw this, including moderators and nothing was done to it. If actions are not taken how will the rules be respected? This educative thread (https://www.nairaland.com/1110844/nigerian-names-herbs-plants/3) and it is just making Frontpage. Regardless, a member insulted the thread's owner for no reason! Some advertised his carpentry capabilities on that thread. Yet, moderators don't notice. [b]Members[\b] There are millions of member on this forum and the only way to tame them is by the rules. Although, I feel members should be allowed to change their usernames because some act according to thier username (believe me, you don't want to know them). Members violate the rules daily, insult for no reason, antagonize threads because they can etc. You can find most in political threads. Rather than making impact on Mr and Ms Nairaland, it could be diverted into enhancing moderators to make the site function well. I don't the job of Ms Nairaland, but does the contest need to make Frontpage? Does the votes require members to do extreme things like advertise on every thread they lay thier eyes on? Bonus Advice Nairaland is a great forum, and maybe the best. But that should not stop it from being best at what it does best which is to satisfy both visitors and members. Ensure the threads are thoroughly valid and links are correct. Too many blogs link with meaningless post are occupying threads. I Googled Unilorin Admission Registration and Nairaland was the first site to confirm it. When I checked the school's site, I figured out it was rumor. Encourage members to post relevant thread and grade Frontpage threads according to the comment and content of threads. A yesternight thread about a member that doubt God's existence was educative, but didn't make Frontpage(more reason why you should categorize threads). This Forum should be the best back to back, from time to time and generation to generation. Pardon my grammar. |

Just because we're the best, shouldn't stop us from being the best of the best. Movie sites homepage are better looking than ours. Moderators are less active and people are just watching. A man can't be an island on his own, if you see something useful for your neighbor there's no harm is saying it. |

Religious extremism and intolerance is about ripping NL apart. It's seething in gradually, we just don't want to admit the fact just yet but it's on the increase. |

Mr Op, Nairaland is NOT lagging behind. I just checked your profile, this is the first topic you ever created and it aims at running Nairaland down. But you are so wrong. Constructive criticisms are welcomed. But not when you make false assertions. 3 Likes 1 Share |

@ OP Weldon for ur criticism even if not all of them are right but not all of them are false either. @ Lalasticlacla, you are leader, you are right for making a rejoinder to clear the air but do not also spoil it, referring to your statement " I checked ur profile, this is the first time you ever created and it aims at running Nairaland down" that one is not necessary as he even commended NL in some aspects. Not everyone are Extroverted online, some are good in reading and listening. He may have even spent years as guest and decided to join the family, you may not know Though the time spent online within his registration period also matters to access his perusal. But be diplomatic, guys Proudly Nairalnder 1 Like |
