Yeh, folks need to be on the lookout, no one's exempted. Even when it comes to well secured estates, these guys still find ingenious ways of getting past estate security, obtaining gate tags/passes and driving in to the estate to scope out the area. Don't be absent-minded. Don't get careless or presumptuous. Establish some basic security protocols, rules and guidelines because some of these guys exploit just your lack of that i.e. little lapses here and there. They always think they're smart: i. Lurking around compounds, only to follow you inside once you leave your gates unguarded. ii. Getting into a neighbor's place, marching an occupant from there at gunpoint to start knocking doors and using that person as a means to getting into other flats & compounds. iii. Hailing you, as if to ask for directions, just as you're about driving into your gates. Don't treated it casually; best you drive in first, lock your gate and answer all the inquiries from the safety of your fortress. the list is endless! Also, I'm an advocate of designing your personal residence like a mini-fortress, not necessarily size-wise, but making sensible choices that'd help you maximize your site for your future safety and happiness. Oyinbos used to have all sorts of trap-doors, routes and secret passageways. Unless your pockets are fitted for building another Buckingham Palace, you shouldn't dare that. With our own economy budgets however, making the best use of windows, balconies, security doors with look-out peepholes, cctv & infrared camera systems (IP-based & offline ones), affordable motion-sensors and detector systems etc, whatever works. This may all sound paranoid to some but the prospect of being dispossessed of valuables and pummeled to pulp after staring hard into the barrel of a gun being waved in my face by some weeded fool gets me more paranoid! I experienced such once and vowed never to be a victim again. May God keep protecting us and our loved ones! |

it's so shocking the way some young potential Nigerians turn themselves into criminals instead of getting a reliable way of living. ones they feel there's no job in town, the next thing is to jettison their potentials and credentials and venture into crime. such people shouldn't forget that nemesis will not think you chose crime because there were no job in town. |

May God continue to protect us from armed robbers. I've once had the experience, it wasn't funny at all. It's not something I pray my enemy experience. The trauma alone is almost unforgettable. |
