Hello seniors, pls I really need clarification on this;
I am 29,I graduated in 2010 with a 2/2 (CGPA 2.9) and I intend going for my masters in canada. What are my chances pls.
bjmme:
you can get Pgd not master

Yep, you can get a master's admission with that CGPA (though it would require an amazing application as well as a strategic choice of schools). uOttawa on their website somewhere states that they accept 2:2 for some programs (e.g. Electronic Business Technologies and some other programs). @MichaelFinn a long time ago (part 8, I think) got admission to uOttawa with a 2.54 CGPA. I can also imagine that some other schools with a 2:1 requirement may accept a 2:2 student with an extremely good application (excellent recommendation letters, relevant work experience, extraordinary SOP, personal contact with the admissions office, etc).

Your work is cut out for you, but you can do it!

What is your course of interest?

2.90 and you got masters admission? what year, course and how did u do it? cos schools in Canada aren't accepting anything less than 3/4 which is equivalent to 3.75 CGPA for masters. so I'm still wondering how u got a masters program admission with 2.90 CGPA if truly. pls enlighten us. it would be highly appreciated
blaugrana 82,we need this guy to explain to us,am much interested, besides he said Lower than 2.90

I'm really getting confused here, @lawmerchant said i can easily get a masters admission with a 3.73 CGPA, @snoop4dem also said he got a masters admission for a CGPA as low as 2.9, @blaugrana82 said it is not possible to get admitted with a CGPA lower than 3.75, it is always stated on university's website admission requirement have atleast Grade B, I already got an offer letter from a college, shoud i go ahead with my visa application? People with experience shd enlighten us here.
Andre no is confusing you,3.73 is ok for master as stated earlier by lawmerchant, just apply to more than one school.

andre99:
Hello house, what are my chances of getting a TRV, i av a 2:1 with a CGPA of 3.73, i intend going for a PGC instead of a Masters program, i hope it's not a red flag to the VO.
It's not a red flag whatsoever as long as you can explain to the VO why a PGC not a masters. There are totally legitimate reasons for choosing a PGC over a masters, e.g. a more practical education with skills that immediately translate to the workplace, a less theoretical education, better understanding of industry needs, etc.

I don't think a legitimate explanation to the VO is that you chose a PGC because of the easier admission process. You have to think of an advantage of the PGC course exactly over a masters equivalent. Tip: look at the list of courses in your PGC program and compare them to the equivalent courses would you take in a masters program and identify & describe the advantages that informed your choice.

In any case, a 3.73 CGPA is good enough to get admission to a masters program so long as you apply to at least three masters programs (personally I would apply to four if I had your CGPA) and you put together an excellent application.

I want to share my testimony here and thank u guys for the nice work u have been doing here. I have been a silent follower of this thread and I must confess that I am impressed by the selfless help being rendered well by you my wonderful people. Keep up the good work and may God bless us all.

I submitted my first visa application /study permit on January 31st 2016 with an up front medicals. On 13th March, I got an email that my processed passport has been dispatched to VAC office and upon collection, I was denied.

Reasons :
1)that I don't have enough money to pay my tuition fees without working in canada (by the way I was given a full Scholarship clearly stated in my admission letter) and,
2.that I may not return to Nigeria after my studies due to lack of assets here.

I addressed the concerns raised by the Visa officer and replied on 31st March (I was suppose to resume in May 1st, spring term).

To the glory of God who is ever faithful, the Holy Spirit my greatest friend and through the intercession of the Sweet Virgin, Our Lady of Perpetual Help whose Son refuses Her nothing,on 24th June, I got an email with a letter that the study permit has been approved and that my visa has been issued.
I also got very lucky, my supervisor approved deferment of my admission a day to the deadline before my admission will be automatically revoked.
So I will be starting this fall.

I must admit that the denial wasnt funny at all and the waiting was something else especially when I couldn't meet up with the Spring term n my supervisor refused to defer my admission because I have been denied visa earlier.

In all I give God all the glory.
For those of you who have been denied before, dont give up, dust it off n try again and for those who are still awaiting response from the embassy keep hopes alive and pray, the God that did it for me at the eleventh hr must surely arise on your behalf. Amen. It can only be God in whom all things are made perfect. I have be following this thread n have read stuffs people point out here as a case for possible denial but I told myself, my case is different if there are any lapses in my application, God pls perfect it. He did it for and will surely do it for all the hopeful here if you believe.

If anybody is going to Ontario this fall, I'll love if we hook up.
Thanks and God bless us all

Bro don't overwork yourself on this issue to avoid unnecessary tension. Your RSA account according to CIC is part of ur POF if you have one. If you are a member of any registered Coperative society, you can get a statement from them and it form part of your POF. I can't mislead you in this regard, but the onus of accepting or rejecting this piece of information lies within you.
Best of luck

I applied to Canadian Mennonite university for their pre-professional program in nursing. It's quite a young school...its inception is just about twenty years. It's a Christian School (Mennonites). The tuition is less expensive like you said and they have a 20percent discount for international students from developing countries. I am still in Nigeria but from what I have read, watched and heard about the school...its genuine and fast coming up. I asked a brother in Winnipeg and he said he knows the schools but it's normal popular because it's still new sort of. I feel it's a place I will enjoy being in for at least a year till I cross to nursing school. Someone on thisnthread who knows Winnipeg can all help out. That's d summary I can give

Thank you very much.

This information is very helpful.

Just a pointer to anybody applying for SOWP, if you don't see the "proof of relationship" as one of the required, you have to double check your answers. I guess this was the only thing that I missed in the first application.
Proof of finances wasn't one of the required, but man one must be wise.....

... I was so inquisitive I had to confirm from Uni Ottawa site for electronic business technology. bros abeg no school in Canada accepts less than a 2.1 for masters and the 2.1 must be a very strong one except are ready to keep spending 26,000 naira = 100 Canadian dollars to each schools. 3.73 is almost 3.75 CGPA so he could try out some schools but my bro e too hard walahi. Ok, so i informed the school where i was going and they sent a 'letter of confirmation of Funding Letter for Visa Purposes '
I had someone transfer 500k in my account as i had very little money and reprinted another statement of account. I called their attention to my sponsor(who was also my sponsor in 2015 during my visit to Canada) He had around 3 something million.
On the case of not returning :
I told them i was given a six months visa to canada last yr n I went n returned, i have family here who are not travelling with me n I can never abandon them here in Nigeria. I have a job and will be going on study leave with full pay so that am legally bonded to return to my job upon completion of my studies. (I included my study leave with pay approval letter and Bond letter which i did not include in the previous application).
Thats all the rest na God ooo
Hope this helps

thank you brother for throwing light on this argumentative issue i had with @LAWMERCHANT. Each program level one chooses vary depending on the circumstance of choosing it as long as it is a higher degree. people misguide or comment on what convincingly they have little knowledge of. if your CGPA is competitive enough for masters please apply for it,even if it is but you don't have enough funds you can opt for PGC and make you SOP emphasize on opting for pdg/pgc is the practical/technical knowledge atimes even without SOP some good VOs see how relevant your intended program is to your UG/work and grant you approval. so @lawmerchant a VO will come and deny some1 because ''pa should have gone for masters instead of THE INTENDED PGD/PGC,in respect to this, application refused? abeg! this has never been a criteria for canada visa refusal. there are criterion for visa refusal and not this. they even deny masters visa when u have not given explanatory reasons for study in canada.moreover some are lucky cos my friends didn't even write any SOP and they got their visas

I'm just been very sincere with u
Bro I have been following this debate but refused to comment because of some individuals who released polemical statement on anyone who try to advice right.
A colleague of mine who works as a lecturer in a renowned University in Nigeria, with over 5 years teaching experience was denied admission by the University of Alberta to study M.A due to low undergraduate grade. This guy have a CPA of 3.70 and that is 2:1 I guess. Thou some dudes may say UofA is very competitive, yes you are right, likewise every other Universities in Canada in terms of graduate admission.
The chance of getting admission with 2:2 grade is 1 out of 100%. Bro you can apply for a PGD programme as a foundation. I believe your dream is still in tact.
Best of luck
