Guy, most of these hawkers n traders don't have enough capital to rent a proper shop, so by Hawking their product they'll be able to make enough money to at least rent a shop. Most people don't knw what the common man is going thru, they sit in their comfort zone n be talking trash..
Bro, think about it..Re these hawkers not still better than those touts (agbero) who forcefully collect money from commercial driver. Let the government take care of those tout first..

Sorry to say this, this is d more reason why we need to support d president on clamping down on the polithiefcians who have stolen your money and my money in billions from the national treasury and had reduced many to street hawking as an alternative to surviving.

That is the platform we can use to secure our destines from these wicked and corrupt polithiefcians. Let us collectively irrespective of tribe channel our grievances to the polithiefcians.

They are the major reason we are in this MESS!!!!! We should stop this mentality of " he is our son or daughter ". As for me any polithiefcian caught stole should be punished heavily I don't care the tribe such polithiefcian comes from.

Tis a stupid and cruel law no doubt but they forced ambode's hand when they destroyed 49 but busses over the death of a street trader who was trying to evade arrest and ran in front of a moving lorry. A lorry for gods sake not even a brt. Lagosians take a sadistic pleasure in destroying government property and this is the result.

Anyway, I'll rather have them fined instead of arresting them.

I'm in support of this ban tho. Child labour is a no-no and a radical move has to be made to tackle it

The government should also provide alternatives

DEFINE CHILD LABOUR TO YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING

Lagos is not a no mans land, naa we get am and our able governor is doing us proud, ipod make una go una land ooooo, ebonyi, imo, abia, enugu, anambra, rivers, bayelsa, go and ask your Governor to develop and create jobs for una as ambode dey do for Lagos.
Failure to do this means the Lagos Lagoon dey wait for una.

Importexport.. You be Ghost?

Nice policy buh how would they survive when they can't even build a shop nor rent.

In this current harsh economy, you can't even afford to rent a shop in Lagos.

This is just like snatching one's life.

This gonna results to more Violence in the state.

I think it's high time some traders left to their various state of origin.

I do not get it when people write that people go to their state of origin. Is Nigeria no longer a nation? Do Nigerians no longer have right to live anywhere they deem fit within their nation? Is resources from one part of the nation not been exploited to develop another part? If we all are no longer comfortable of being called Nigerians we can as well call for a referendum and agree to part ways. However as long as the country remains no one should deny another right to live in any part of his/her country and no Nigerian should be regarded as alien within his/her country.

As per the Lagos law banning street trading you ll see the same politicians relaxing the law when election approaches as to win people's sympathy and vote. I can't forget how lastma suddenly disappeared from the lagos street in the build up to last election. The government wont provide jobs for people yet you go and arrest people struggling to survive and impose ridiculous fine on them. Talk of ridiculous fine, Lagos has it. They want to turn an already overpopulated town to a New York.

This could in turn bring down the prices of those 100 naira chips for example... Imagine, N100, what a rip off cheesy. I can't say I don't support the ban tho, as it clears the street and makes it look more civilised, but, I fear for the increase in crime rate, as companies like UAC and Fan milk, for example, will lay off hundreds of their contract staff and freelancers

Dont u think, that advice will serve u best. All the Oil Company based in Lagos should relocate to the oil producing region of Niger Delta.

Better yet, Lagos should stop collecting oil money allocation from Federal gov.

Who are the targets of this law

1. The poor that voted Ambode to power.
2. The needy who don't want to beg, but prefer to hawk to make ends meet.
3. The lowly who have no educational qualification to get a job.
4. The helpless who want to survive by honest means instead of robbery.

I will encourage these hawkers to try robbery in Lagos state, if possible target the politicians that want them dead.

Hmm. Weda they want to go back to their villages or not is left to them as they like evry other Nigerian have d exclusive right to free movement. Wat they r into is legitimate n doesn't constitute any harm to any1. Like it or not, they serve some nid unless u ll tel me u v not bought gala n lacasera/other soft drinks from them. Thr z no right time truly but doing it in dis period of hardship is wrong timing. Also this shows our govt is only reactive n not proactive cos if the Maryland incident had not hapnd, it means they wld hv bn left to their activities. Same govt dat doesn't have any economic/agric policy in place for citizens to hv alternative economic activities to engage. We ll get thr sha

Things are generally tough in the country; there is no jobs, no money and no food. I honestly think that BAN ON STREET HAWKING at this particular time, without any other sensible options or replacements strategies is completely irresponsible.

A sensible government will not only put an option in place, but also test this option for efficiency and effectiveness before introducing the BAN ON STREET HAWKING. Now, what exactly do you expect these people to do?

I hate leaders that think with their @@s holes. May God bless Nigeria with dedicated leaders with wisdom, that make good use of their brains...and not just this group of thieves that called themselves leaders in Nigeria.

Nigerians, expect more armed robbers; this is simply the outcome of poor decisions by our buttt-head leaders

I won't argue with you - if you can say street hawking is legitimate. They have a right to live anywhere but not a right to constitute a nuisance where they want to live. It's so simple. The government has made a law, live by it.
