Lagos State Government is back again with their efficient poverty alleviation tactic;
https://life.partyjollof.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Tupac-gif.gif

Its that type where they get to eradicate poverty by eradicating poor people.

https://life.partyjollof.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Joker-clap.gif

So what are the impications of this ban?

1. You are going to starve to death inside Lagos traffic.
https://life.partyjollof.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/crying-man.gif

2. If you don’t starve, your sweat will kill you inside Lagos traffic.
https://life.partyjollof.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Sweating-man.jpg

Because nobody to even sell handkerchief. But to the more important things;

3. Jobs will be lost.

https://life.partyjollof.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/many-hands-on-head-600x403.jpg

You might not know, but you see thousands of street traders every week. From the hundreds hawking in traffic, to your favourite boli or roasted corn woman. To that dude carrying yoghurts on his shoulder to sell. All of them could either choose unemployment or a 90,000 naira fine.

https://life.partyjollof.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/ashamed-benzino.gif

4. Remember UAC foods? Those guys that have been making Gala sausages since forever?

https://life.partyjollof.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Akagum-Gala-600x220.png

Yep. A significant part of the revenue the generate happens in traffic. Imagine what would happen when they don’t make as much Gala because demand has fallen. Jobs. Will. Go.

https://life.partyjollof.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/scared.gif

5. Have you ever seen a traffic seller chasing a car before?

https://life.partyjollof.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Street-hawker-running.gif

If he loses his job and decides to start chasing people and snatching their bags, how will you catch him?

Our elders say,
https://life.partyjollof.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Pete-fed.jpg

The progress of our society is not only by what the elite few accomplish, but by the standard of living of the masses.

What do you think about Lagos State Government’s new street trade ban?
.
What I think of Lagos state government's new street ban?
It is the conspiracy of Lagos state government by officials who are incompetent to add value to sustainable development in Africa's largest megacity. So, they look for scapegoats for their incompetence. grin

I swear, this is the highest mistake Lagos state can make. Some people's source of livelihood solely depends on street hawking not because they choose so but because of government's inadequacies to provide job. I just foresee crime and terrorism to be on the increase that even Ambode will revert his decision and tell the rich and the poor to start hawking. Even he himself will hawk Gala and Lacasera to show that the policy has been reverted when the time comes

i can see a sharp rise in prices of Gala...finally.
Legit kiosks will start selling at higher rates because he knows you wouldn't find it on the road. So its either buy or forever remain hungry for as long as your journey would last.

Those who are cunny enough will factor in 'bail money' to the original price. That will be like N70 or N80 for Gala. Lets not delve into the price of LaCasera that will go along with it.

Some governors don't know where their priorities lie.

On a more serious note though, It is a step forward in the right direction, though its a rather hard one to make. You can never spot hawkers on the streets in civilized countries, however, there should be some sort of way to recompense the massive loss of jobs and/or revenue this decision will make.
I agree with your about a contingency plan to buffer the effect and create more jobs to absorb the "hawkers/street traders".
But let's be plain, Nigeria ain't a civilized country, we are but a 3rd world underdeveloped country.
Even in the so called "developed" country, there's so form of street trading !

There's nothing bad in the ban.

okada, agberos and beggars should also be banned...

Then makoko should be evacuated and destroyed.

People like tinubu, ambode, fashiola cannot swear to an oracle that they never benefited frm this street hawking during their own time of struggling...destroying the bridge you crossed....

Tinubu - Lastma
Fashiola - Bike
Ambode - Hawkking
Next Governor - Computer Village destroyed or selling of N100 recharge banned in lagos.

Well, na dem own the city nw sha..

a bi? huh

.....and all the stake holders will not be happy about this all. Their sales will drop drastically. And hawker will migrate to other states like Ogun state (i.e, Sango-Ota).

In civilized countries, commuters don't spend 2- 3 hours in traffic. There are other means of transportation. The masses don't commute packed in buses.

The components of balance doesn't include sales even though reduction in sales after profits which is moved to the balance. Balance sheet major component are assets and liabilities. Moreover there are other ways to increase sales without selling on the expressway

They would be sorely missed, but I'd wish government came in to assist by preparing soft loans to those with high business acumen while others are trained on skills acquisition! But still, ability to buy gala and some others on the road had being relieving to so many in dire need of such esp during some crazy traffic jams along Oshodi to Agege.
