This is $1.049 billion Kaduna-Abuja Standard Gauge rail. The first ever standard gauge rail system in Nigeria.

The federal roads in the southsouth are mostly write-offs. Who dreams of standard gauge rail here.

He was the President of Nigeria for 5 years. That meant that he had other concerns besides the Niger Delta, such as:
Building schools for people whose parents refuse to send them to school
Building universities (in the North)
Dealing with Islamic insurgents in the North
Making deals for the renovation of the rail network
Selling Nigeria's potential at the World Economic Forum

You forget that these Niger Delta states have governors. Akwa Ibom and Cross River State have used their resources well, you can see the work that has been done. Bayelsa had seen practically no development from independence until it became a state, they've been working to get up to speed. Rivers, on the other hand, is a disgrace. So much money has been wasted in that state - from the monorail to the world class hospital that never was.

And sharing money like father christmas ... Ask Dasuki

What have they done with their 13% over all these decades? People like Peter Odili & Rotimi Amaechi should be held accountable for this, not the Federal Government.

I dont belive that Shell would be allowed to drill oil without giving back to the host community. The thing is that the big men such as the politicians, elders and sometimes even the traditional rulers in this places specifically tell the oil companies to pay the money into their accounts in exchange for development. Some people are actually feeding fat from the monies allotted to communities like this either by the government or by the companies.

Blaming leaders of SS and Jonathan is a diversionary tactic by the self-assigned most shophischicated tribe to protect their slave drivers. Their slave drivers crafted the political structure/system. The political structure/system is such that irrespective of whichever region a president comes from, Arewa uses majority representation in the political process to direct who gets what of federal government wealth and projects.

Arewa derives this undue majority from the undue large number of states which Arewa soldiers dotted in every corner of northern Nigeria.

I know some myopic people will be pointing blame finger at the President, forgetting that this town falls under a LG, and that LG falls under a constituency represented by a Senator at NASS, until we realize that senators aint just there to make laws, they are the voice of their community as well, but before then smh for the poor voiceless masses. cry

Don't think you can draw pity from this miserable pictures of the oil producing areas.

The internal colonial masters of these oil producing areas don't even mind using military hardware to further level out those places, in order to have peace and get oil revenues to develop their cities. This is Nigeria. The two biggest tribes are merciless.

Many communities in Niger Delta are in this same state, GEJ really disapointed his people, with his 6 yrs in governance Niger Delta should ve turned to London by now.

What you just wrote up there makes no sense. GEJ cannot be everywhere. In as much as I am a fan of Amaechi and he is my brother I think he is the guilty one. All the governors strangled the LGA which should have been the government closest to rural dwellers. All of them are guilty. Jonathan has zero blame in this case.

You are not being real here.

Amechi has been eating the money, before APC and Buhari issues came up. moreover, Amechi sponsoring them, is his choice. he wasn't forced.

Truth is the leaders and representative of Niger Delta people, failed them, and they are still doing that till date.

The reason for the renewed Militancy in the Niger Delta is not to solve problems like this.. It's because of the cancellation of the Pipeline security contracts.

When I see things like this, I start from the closest Government to the people which is the Local Government. What the fhuck do those people really do in their offices? A simple matter of managing waste in their Community they don't do it. Okay build these people toilets na.. Nope, not that either. We all to know that they get allocations from the State government. Wether it's little is one thing, but what do they do with that little they get?

If the State Government or any Oil Company tries to go clean up that place now as part of CSR, these people will come out and block them, vandalise their equipment, kidnap the workers and demand compensation first before any work is done.

It breaks my heart to see this type of things because these waterfront areas of the South South hold very very massive potentials in terms of tourism, real estate and commerce. The leaders of these communities are very anti-development especially when such development does not put cash directly into their pockets. Isn't it shocking that "River State" (emphasis on the 'Rivers' in the name) does not have any reputable beach front resort or leisure area to talk about? From Okrika to Buguma to Abonema to Okuru-ama to Degema to Name it..

I repeat, the Niger Deltans have to take 5 steps back and go into an inter-communual developmental discussion meeting where one of the rules will be "No discussion about Oil". The potentials outside of oil in the South South are enormous. Oil is just the most obvious of them.

Like someone rightly stated, these Militants (Asari, Tompolo and co) are mega Millionaires today.. They own multiple companies that operate in the region. They strong arm Companies into patronising them or face community harassment daily. They run the South South like a Mafia. What have they contributed to their communities apart from empowering fellow Militants and arming the youths? Can anyone show us a Hospital built and serviced by any of these mega rich Militants in their communities?

Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife are eternal bastards and that's settled, but that fool actually made alot of these Militants and other Niger Delta men Billionaires (and that's an undisputed fact). Sadly none of that money translated into development for the region. Remember that Patience Jonathans beef with Amaechi started because Amaechi wanted to take up some lands to build a school in Okrika which he claimed originally belonged to the Government without paying compensation. Rather than talk to her people to see reasons why the school is a good thing and will bring development to Okrika children whilst speaking to Amaechi to find a little money for them in compensation, she joined the community to fight it.

The oil companies have indeed done alot of damage in the Niger Delta from their operations and flaring which has caused acid rains, polluted their waters, killed their crops and affected their source of livelihood but the militants have done far worse damage by blowing pipelines for selfish compensation reasons. The government whose responsibility it is to regulate the activities of these companies are more than happy to just keep collecting levies and bribes whilst neglecting their primary responsibility.

The Niger Delta is in trouble, but the solution must start from within.

Don't blame Shell because the communities get a lot of money from Shell and spend on frivolity instead of basic needs. The major issue remains bad orientation which has caused generational "retrogression" in most oil producing communities. To address it starts from total re-orientation to basic infrastructure.

The most important thing is to understand that oil money does not exist. It is a fiction that has rendered many useless in life. Money only comes from hardwork and innovations not by sitting at home waiting for handouts from Shell and Chevron.
