BENIN CITY—OVER 10,000 teachers will soon be recruited into the services of the Edo State Government to address the paucity of teachers in some local government areas of the state, Prince Stephen Alao, chairman of the state Universal Basic Education, SUBEB, has said.

The SUBEB boss who disclosed this to Vanguard, yesterday, said that contracts were currently being awarded for the construction of more schools in the state, adding that over N500 million had been paid to various contractors with a view to facilitate the projects.

Explaining that the government decided to embark on construction of more schools and recruitment of more teachers in the schools due to the influx of pupils into public schools, Alao said that “majority of the people of Edo State, their children attend public schools as a result of the massive school renovation we embarked on.

“Most of our primary schools are now well equipped. Teachers are no longer teaching under the trees. In SUBEB, we are awarding contracts now for more schools to be renovated and the governor was very particular, that there must be a primary school project in the 192 wards in Edo State. This agency has played its role to complement the efforts of the governor at driving quality education delivery in Edo State.”

The last time I checked you were owing Egor workers 17 months salaries and just when you're about to leave office you now want to employ 10,000 workers

Point of correction pls. the governor is not owing Egor local government but the chairman or whoever is in charge is d person owing the local government workers. Saying the governor is owing workers of local government is like accusing or saying the president is owing state government workers if the states can not pay the salary.

I hope u know d primary school teachers salary is removed from local govt allocation...after dat is removed at source hw can d local govt pay dia staff...if really d chairmen r misappropriating the cash y isn't d gov doing sumtin about it...of which hos hv even taken over and d problem of payment of salaries still remain

Yes I know that primary school teachers salary are remove from source & I also know that Egor local government is 1 of the few local government in the state that is generating high revenue because of. the number of markets under its watch especially Uselu & Oliha markets as well as lots of private establishment such as Tomline construction company & lots of furniture companies. My concern is what where/is the chairman doing with the revenue revenues that the council was generating. After all Egor local government is not the only local government we have in the state but is the only one bn mentioned.

Yes I agree with you on the sacking of the chairman then, but d same council that cannot pay salary is busy building a multi million naira new Uselu market after totally destroying the old market

I seriously pity d workers of Whoring local government & I appeal to d state government to come to their aid by helping the council to pay some backlog of salaries or if possible grant the local government a soft loan that will b use to offset the salary issues the same way the federal government is helping the state

He is doing all these because he is leaving office. When he was in labour, people thought they were dealing with a human being but we can see clearer now. Quite unfortunate.

Oga state is owing shikena, whether state, LG. Even in Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa. The LG are owing. But we never shifted the goal post to the LG chairmen. So don't shift any rubbish post for OSHOM"OLE". As long as we know, his state is owing, therefore he is owing.
So why employ more, if u r owing?

Only to curse problem for his predecessors. So u will use 2months for the process, pay 1 month salary and leave Ize-Iyamu with more wage bill.
I av nothing against the move, but. Why now wen election is just about 2 months away. It really makes no sense. U had about 8years to pull this. But u waited till now.

This was exactly what happened in Bayelsa State before the last Gubernatorial Election , some applicants were screened and till today even after the Governor has been re-elected, none of those screened has been employed... Edo people should shine their eyes and Vote who they thtink is best for them... This looks like a political move but I just hope the Bayelsa Scenario doesn't repeat itself here...

APC governors are wicked, d same during Amechi last days in office recurit thousands of teachers n other staff's jos to cos problem for d incoming government.

Permit me to say Oshomole is a bastard. And no one should get angry over my choice of words, I learnt it from him and the other useless agents of evil, wickedness and lies like Tinubu, Fashola, Lai Mohammed, destitute Ameachi, Kwankwaso and co.
But on a serious note is not a wicked fool that will be at the helms of affairs of a state as it governor, for eight years, without any recruitment of any sort except the engagement of motor park touts as revenue collectors and then with just a few months before he bows out, he then realises that the state needs teacher. Oshomole, you are very like that.
I must urge all Edo sons and daughters qualified to vote in the next election to change this useless chains and their party.
