My dear, everything will work out well. You can apply to cancel the admission and go to the other uni once your TRV application is approved. It won't affect you. You will just notify CIC of the change of DLI. Please check the school website for any rules and deadline that has to do with withdrawing and refunds.
@ uchethalia he has already made a part payment of 10,000CAD. cancelling the admission isn't the main issue. getting back the money he had already paid I believe is what the poster is trying to know about. I would advise u go for environmental engineering in uni Ottawa but how do u get back the money is the problem here

Read my post. Certain questions can only be answered by going through a school's website or asking the graduate officer. Schools change their policies. To get first hand info go to the first hand source.

When did you apply to University of Ottawa and when did they give you their decision?

You can still change school when you get to Canada but the college will deduct some amount of money from the money you paid them.

Thanks for ur advise. I applied January and I got offer of admission April.

Re: Travelling To Canada Part 10 by Ajibade105(m): 3:18am On Jul 07, 2016
People should not just apply for a course which doesn't have any correlation with their first degree ( Precisely M.Sc. applicants). I think this will raise a red flag. Am not an expert tho. I wish TRV hopeful which am one the very best. We gonna smile soonest. I will advice you get more chill pill(s) to keep yourself on track.

Plz peeps kindly advise me on wat to do.
I applied to two schools in canada. University of Ottawa: Masters in Environmental Engineering.. (2yrs program)
Due to d. Delay in response I quickly applied to Cambrian College. EMPD (1yr program). Graduate certificate. And it dint take up to a week b4 I got admission @ cambrian college, I was very happy abt it so I made part payment of tuition feez immediately CAD$10k and den applied for my visa, doe no response for medicals yet buh I knw my God is @ work. Now d funny tin is dat. Ottawa has finally offered me Admission for masters in environmental engineering off which dat is wher my heart belong not cambrian. Pls peeps advise me.

When your study permit application is out and you proceed to Canada, do NOT inform the Visa Officer at the point of entry of change in school from Cambrian to UOttawa, if you do, you will NOT be issued a study permit. You will be required to apply for a study permit again using UOttawa. After your study permit is issued for Cambrian (your in Canada), simply log into you CIC account and notify CIC of change in School.

As par your tuition fee at Cambrian, you can still recover the payment. The school may choose to refund the whole payent or they may withhold some administrative fee.

Hmmmmmm the 100CD application fees is very important for all schools.

However, I learnt centennial college don't require the 100cd application fees buh you will be asked to pay a tuition deposit of 2300 cad before they finally issue you an admission letter.

I hope your intending program is related to your undergraduate degree or work.

Are you going for PGD or just a diploma?

Don't mind them jere.....I think those CIC people sleep walk sometimes. Or maybe they like to play with our emotions. Chaii the emotional investment wey people get for this Canada visa ehn go fear you.

You will see people submit their application and after one week they will come to nairaland and be like "hello house I submitted my application one week ago and I have not received my medical call...what is going on did I do something wrong"

As if that one is not enough you will be seeing series of hot arguments on this thread on whether Canada is bigger than Ekiti state in Nigeria...who doesn't know durrr. grin

As if that one too is not enough..you will be seeing some people asking whether admission letter is part of the required documents for study permit. Chaiiii there's nothing person will not see in this thread.

VFS too will be dispatching passport indiscriminately without medical mail like say dem ancestors were messengers. I mean even if CIC sent you to return the documents can't vfs plead on behalf of applicants grin

If CIC is not careful self we will all stay in naija and do our masters or PGD..... I learnt they have wonderful PGD and masters programme at the university of Maiduguri.

I'm answering what I can specifically the last paragrapgh and I believe people with much info may come in to answer the rest

if you want to divert from what u studied during undergraduate studies, "I hope you have several strong compelling reasons for that, because when you apply for a Canada student visa you would have to write a statement of purpose to CIC convincingly stating why you are doing this course switch. Treat this very very importantly otherwise you will get a "Purpose of Visit" and "Length of Proposed Stay" visa denial."

NB: some portion of answer are direct reply I got from @thesoj almost a year ago(August 2015) and I believe this shd help answer ur questions about whether or not it may affect ur chances.

Also, please don't be in a haste. It's better to take ur time than to rush and crush. Goodluck

Thanks a lot bro, what about if I decide to choose Interdisciplinary Studies, I heard it cut across all discipline. Thanks Bro. I really appreciate

I no dey like come here everyday to dey see i have a CGPA or GPA of this, can it fetch me masters/phd/pgc..
None of us here are professors or admission officers.
Its only your school can tell you if you are qualified.the requirements are there on each faculty requirements, go to Google, type for example if you want to study wireless communications, you can type on Google "list of universities/colleges in canada offering wireless communications " and they will all appear, you now compare and contrast by either ur choice of university, tuition, province, admission requirements..etc. And try mailing the admission officers/securing a supervisor to get "chasis" information about your school.now tell me the essence of every school's webpage if not for first hand information to everyone including their contact details are there! This issue of i have a CGPA/GPA or i want to study this course which school should i choose have been prolonging since last week and which is prevailing. I wan come here to dey read better news from ACCRA no be cpga/gpa/help me choose my course/low gpa/ i wouldn't also be suprised to see what is the difference between college and a university in this forum or what is the difference btwn admission letter and letter of acceptance. questions are allowed which is the essence of this ''helping each other forum,NL'' but there are some questions that make me question if you are really a graduate and want to study in a country where the education system is hightech which the internet would always be your no1 guide

YES. They do. I have an MBA admission from Laurentian Uni. My Undergradute course was Agric Econs. Cgpa was 2.85. but after WES course-by-course evaluation, my recommended Cpga became 3.02 maybe bc it was a 5yr programme. Although I do have a lot of work experience, over 10yrs. I guess that was the positive thing. But then in my offer letter, the Laurentianuni packed so many foundational business courses that I have to do alongside the MBA which has made my credit load so much. Even though I indicated in my SOP that I've done some mgt proffesional courses. I guess they only consider your undergraduate courses, not any of these our naija professional courses.

Well my argument is that less than 2.9 can get Master admission in canada, in some circumstance. I may change when i get my TRV to
another sch since all those course credit load has made it very expensive. Thnaks[/color]

Guys, I know one can change schools after getting to Canada. But can that change be different levels of study eg from Masters admission to PGC which by the way is a lot cheaper? Would that look suspicious?

I don't think it will look suspicious. Once you are in Canada, you can contact CIC via e-mail or telephone or simply ask the graduate administrator/ any officer in charge of PGC students in the school you want to attend and I'm sure he or she will give you the appropriate details.

A lot of applicants are so lazy and wouldn't want to spend. If you don't try, how would you get results. They keep believing in "them say them say". There is more to the generic information these schools put on their Web. Send in your application early enough, let them analyse and get back to you. They know what to look out for in your transcript.
