Seems Pep was asking "were these d same boots u wore when u scored 14 goals last season"? grin

All the best to him.

Iheanacho has really grown so tall now, even taller than pep.

Comparing his height with when he was U17, do those shouting age cheat still have any pt?

I did not know Arteta was a promising tactician. He is part of the back room staff of Guardiola. Wish him the best.

That is Arteta in Wales during a coaching course.

Genk won't sell Ndidi to Watford - player's rep

Wilfred Ndidi

by Samm Audu

Belgian club Genk have insisted Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi is not for sale and they will therefore not be considering any offer for the player including the reported one from Premier League club Watford.

Watford are reported to be ready to fork out six million pounds for former Nath Boys of Lagos ace Ndidi, but AfricanFootball.com has now been told the transfer will not go through.

A source close to Ndidi informed AfricanFootball.com: “Genk need Ndidi for the new season and they have made it very clear the player is not for sale.

“They do not have an immediate replacement for him and have already made some good money from selling some of their top stars and that should be that that for this window.

"Both the club and player are now focused on a Europa League qualifiers later this month."

On July 14, Genk welcome the overall winners of the first round qualifying match between Rabotnicki from Macedonia and Buducnost Podgorica from Montenegro with the return leg a week later.

Genk have proved their resolve to keep the defender-turned-defensive midfielder when they rejected a six million Euros bid from German Bundesliga side Hamburg in January.

Former Nigeria U17 and U20 star Ndidi has been a super bargain buy for the Belgian club and still has two more years left on his contract after he signed a three and a half year deal in January 2015 after he had turned 18 the previous month.

Siasia: If we don't win Gold, Nigeria won't welcome us

Nigeria Olympic team coach Siasia

Nigeria Olympic team coach Samson Siasia has said anything short of Gold in Rio in August will not be celebrated back home.

Siasia led Nigeria to play in the gold medal match at the 2008 Beijing Olympics against Argentina and that was after the country made history as the first African side to win the Olympic football tournament in 1996.

“It is not going to be a walk in the park (to win Olympic Gold). It is going to be a very difficult task. But the thing is that anything short of Olympic gold is nothing because nobody will even come and welcome us when we come back without the gold,” he said.

“So, it is a difficult one. But we will do the best that we can so far these players (confirmed foreign-based stars) are coming. We will know exactly how we are playing and what will come out from the players we have.”

African U23 champions Nigeria are drawn against European champions Sweden, Asia champions Japan and Colombia in the group phase of the Rio Olympics.

Siasia’s build-up has suffered several hitches after several of the country’s top stars were blocked by their European clubs from featuring in the competition.

The absentees include Premier League stars Odion Ighalo (Watford), Alex Iwobi (Arsenal) and Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City).

Siasia has also complained that the squad in training camp in Atlanta, United States of America, are not motivated as they have not received any allowances since they departed Nigeria last month.

Sheyi Ojo

by Austin Ditlhobolo

Liverpool midfielder Sheyi Ojo has been named in the England squad for this month's UEFA European Under-19 Championships.

Even though, Ojo was born in Hemel Hempstead, England, he is eligible to represent Nigeria, the country of his parent’s heritage.

The 19-year-old winger is part of an 18-man squad named by England under-19 head coach Aidy Boothroyd for the finals, which will be held in Germany.

According to Liverpool Echo, the teenager, whose full name is Oluwaseyi Babajide Ojo, is most likely to miss Liverpool’s United States (U.S) tour which starts at the end of this month.

Liverpool are expected to take on their English rivals Chelsea as well as Italian sides AC Milan and AS Roma between the 28th of July and 2nd August 2016.

England Under-19 side have been pitted against France, Holland and Croatia in Group B.

The youth continental tournament will take place between the 11th and 24th July 2016.

Ojo's Nigerian name, Babajide, is a variant form of the Yoruba name: Babatunde, meaning "Father returns" or "Father comes back to life"

Mikel eye £8m Besiktas move

Chelsea could sell John Obi Mikel for £7.7 million this summer as the midfielder has sought for a move to Besiktas, his representative has revealed.

Mikel, 29, has been at Chelsea since 2006 and last season struggled to hold down a regular place in the starting XI.
The Nigeria international could be sold as part of incoming manager Antonio Conte’s squad changes this summer.

And Turkish newspaper, Fotomac, quoted representative Mesrun Izzet as claiming a move to the Super Lig is on the cards.
“Mikel did enquire about Besiktas and there were talks (but) it all depends on what their board decide to do,” Izzet said.

“Money is of course important but Mikel wants first-team football if he is to move.”

Chelsea will reportedly accept a £7.7 million (€9 million) fee for Mikel, who has won the Champions League, Europa League, two Premier League titles, four FA Cups and two League Cups during his time in west London.

Conte is seeking new midfielders, with Roma’s Radja Nainggolan and N’Golo Kante of Leicester on his radar, and needs to make room in his squad for those arrivals.

Nemanja Matic is another midfielder supposedly nearing the Stamford Bridge exit door, with Juventus and Manchester United linked with the 27-year-old Serbia international.

Siasia: We have no money for Athletes care
Biyi Akangbe
[/size]
https://media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2014/12/Siasia-1.jpg
Dream Team VI head coach, Samson Siasia has raised an eyebrow over the financial problems troubling their preparations for the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

Speaking earlier this week on how unimpressed hehas been with the team’s shoddy preparations, Siasia said: “It is not a good image to go to the Olympics while trying to beg for money around, actually begging people for money to take care of our athletes?”

“We don’t have money. We are in the (United States of ) America now without any money. So, it is a big problem. We are without any money in our pocket. There are no funds coming from anywhere. That is not a good thing.

“When you have players who are not motivated and encouraged, but you want them to come and do a miracle. Everybody needs to be encouraged at one time or the other,” he further stated.

Siasia thereafter called on the President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari to do something about the situation. He said: “We just want to appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to come to the rescue of sports in the country as our father and sports-loving President.”

“The sports sector is dying and it is adversely affecting the Olympic teams that have qualified to represent Nigeria at the Rio Olympics Games not just football, but the other (seven) sports ‎that Nigeria will campaign in in Rio. The reason is well known which is the sports ministry needs to be funded adequately. This has adversely affected the Nigeria Football Federation too. Everybody is borrowing.

“This has to stop. President Buhari has to help us by approving some funds for our Olympic teams toprepare well. If the funds are not there, how are you going to prepare to win gold?” he concluded.

I understand ur point bro but if that is the case, siaone should deploy a young DMF worthy player (Ndidi will be okay here) against a team that are very effective and quicker. Mikel will be on bench and will be use when the need arised
Are kidding, for Mikel to leave pre season and some Epl matches and travel all the way to Rio and sit on sit on the bench and watch Junior Ajayi and Taiwo Awoniyi ,make Mikel no hear this

TheGoodJoe:

Hence we have solid midfielders, I will opt for us going with a midfield based team formation. I say we play a 4-5-1 formation. This nullifies the weakness in attack.

-------------------------------------------Sadiq Umar (CF)-----------------------------------------------
Godwin Saviour (LMF)-----------------------------------------------Usman Mohammed (RMF)
------------------------------------------Etebor (CMF)-----------------------------------------------------
---------------------Wilfred Ndidi (DMF)-----------------John Mikel (DMF)--------------------

Saviour, Usman Mohammed, Etebor, Mikel, Ndidi, make the five man midfield. We still have Azubuike who could make the starting Eleven.
Formation and tactics is the only hope for Siasia and his boys,I go with ur formation,if possible let's use 2 attacking midfielders as well with 2 DMF,let's forget attacking football for this team and play defensive ,this team does not have worthy attacking players,I can only see Sadiq Umar

I think Junior & Imoh are better option than umar. i have seen some of his videos in the primavera in italy. Compare to the two, umar may not even make the team. Professional & international matches are not the same with youth matches. Awoniyi, Success & iheanacho use to score for fun in the Youth set up but look at them now. The stake is higher.

I do not like categorizing players as Junior team players. What matters is the ability in training. When the Flying Eagles met the Dream team recently, on both occasions, the dream team were better and scored more.

When Pellegrini carried Iheanacho to the main team, Iheanacho did better than a recognized star, Wilfred Bony.

What I want from Coach Siasia is for him to be honest to himself and Nigerians. Screen his attackers in training and select the best who performs well to lead. Leave whether he is a junior or senior player.

He should not repeat the nonsense of sending Obaje out of the Super Eagles camp after the boy did better than the foreign pros.

I keep saying it dat this is the U23. The stakes are higher. It is expected that majority of the participating players should have 3-5 yrs senior professional experience. Sadiq Umar jst like Awoniyi may nt jst b able to face the opposing competition. Imoh and Ajayi to me are ahead of Umar and Awoniyi hu to me should b at the U20 camp preparing for the Sudan clash. I am really sceptical abt Sadiq's spare heading the attack. This is a national team set up and Sadiq is nt tested at this stage. I cannot put my stake on him to b d arrow ahead of the attack.

Obaje, Chikatara and Samuel could have brought more to this selection dan Awoniyi and Sadiq.

Age and experience also influence player's ability both in training and more often match day game.

Do the Iheanachos, Ndidis, Iwobis,Simons and co of today have d abilities they have today 2-3 yrs ago?

Performances of footballers typically improve with age and experience. It may only usually start declining as most approach and exceed 30yrs.

It is a common theory and belief of a lot of pundits and coaches. However, I believe in form. When a player is doing so well in training and outperforming a player who has age and experience over him, it is suicidal sticking with age and experience.

That was what was exciting about Mancini. He dropped an older Shay Given for Joe Hart. Joe Hart did not fail. Look at Renato Sanches case. Bringing him on over older and more experienced midfielders caused s spark in the Portuguese side and their fortune changed.

It is not simply about declining.

When you look at the likes of Martial and Depay for instance. Depay has way more experience and we can not tag Depay Declining. Antony Martial is better and you know this by trying them both in training and opting for the better one.

Walcott is not Thirty but Arsene Wenger prefers Iwobi.

Simply, we scrap the age and experience factor. If the age and experience factor is that important, the experienced player should be able to outclass in the inexperienced one in training.

If Ighalo hits camp and he can not outclass Sadiq Umar in training with his experience, he does not deserve to lead the line.

Training form alone may nt b enough.

Match day challenges are usually different from Training ground challenges. If a young uncapped player outshines d more experienced strikers(for instance) in training, i can chose to start d uncapped player from d bench and attempt to use him as a super if d need arises.

Coaches typically trust their older players first before starting introducing younger players gradually.

That was the mistake Coach Siasia made in Alexandria and Kaduna. He dropped those doing better than Ighalo in training and we paid for it. Ighalo was lost in both games.
