People born in the 90s saw this too?
omolola15:
This list is not complete. You left out one telenovela my sisters would die for back in the days. Even Mariam my neighbor no dey let person rest back then.

MARIA DE LOS ANGELES... One of the reasons my Saturday is always interesting.

I love passion as well. And also second chance was nice. But it was the last telenovela I saw.

Nigerians have been watching TV since forever. It started with local shows down to the foreign ones, we watched them all.
Before the advent of Zee World and Telemundo, we watched the telenovelas and followed up on the stories.

Telenovelas are different from US-style soap opera in that they rarely continue for more than a year. This makes them shorter than soap opera, but still much longer than serials

It was such an addiction that we even bought books that summarised the episodes for times when we missed the episodes due to NEPA or something. Good old days!

Here are some of the amazing telenovelas that kept us glued to our seats then.

1. Secrets of the Sand
Secrets of the Sand was Brazillian and was originally released in 1993. It told the story of twin sisters, Ruth and Rachel. A rich man falls in love with Ruth who truly loves him too, but he gets involved with Rachel, who’s after his wealth.

Ashiri yepe... Remember the guy they call dalua... Who just couldn't stop calling Ruth - ruchinaaa.. And hates Rachel like he hates his step father.. He was such an awesome sand sculpturist...

Then Marcos the confused fellow.. Rachel the slut, whose mother was her loyalist and whose father hated her buh loved Ruth...

Crazy programme that nta loved airing around 8pm every Tuesday or so...

Those days when nepa light was nicknamed candlelight and black and white tv was the order of the day... Days of tandi gurana and fido diddo...

Then if u no fit draw fido diddo... Ladies would not jell for u and guys no go too wan hang out with u...

Mehn! How tym flies....... #FeelingNostalgic

Second chance na another programme wey dey make Mehn dey run bak to hostel all the way from lagoon front... No matter how early u leave wherever u are to make it to common room or cafetaria.... U no go ever see seat siddon...

All because of the shag scenes wey Salvador dey do with that woman....

The shag drive the woman bonkas so tay she leave that her before man for Salvador...

Mehn! The power of kporo....

2. When You Are Mine
When You Are Mine or Cuando seas mía was a Mexican telenovela that was originally released between 2001 and 2002 but aired in Nigeria between 2005-2006. It featured Silvia Navarro as Teresa Suarez or Paloma and Sergio Basañez as Diego Sanchez-Serrano

Great work, OP. I think Silvia Navarro AKA Paloma was also referred to as Elena Olivares.

7. Sunset Beach

Great signature you have there. smiley

Why did op have to bring passions up again? cry

Kai, I can't believe how obsessed I was with that series. If I see all the episodes today sef I will still love to watch everything from the beginning. The whole thing was tacky with terrible plot and bad acting but I still love it cool

Louis and Sheridan will always remain my favourite couple smiley

It was also very popular then. Barbarita Ruiz and Antonio Adolpho grin

At least that one ended well.

This one had us waiting for the next episode all the time. Imagine what happens when rich man, Pedro Jose Do Noso comes back as Salvador Cerinza? Just out of this world honestly.
