Yes, there is a thing called "luck": There have always been debates over if there is a thing called "Luck" in the real meaning of it. Portugal recent triumph affirms the saying that “the smartest (luckiest), not the strongest wins the race". The Portuguese team were never favorites coming into the tournament. The likes of Spain, Italy, Belgium, France, Germany were strongly tipped to win the tournament, but Portugal benefited from these top teams' slips to win the tournament. They were lucky enough to escape all the favorites, till the final, where their experience and team spirit counted against the host team. From Spain losing out a chance to play against the team by coming second to Croatia, to Belgium losing out to Wales unexpectedly to set an easier hurdle for Portugal to cross, the team was an embodiment of luck. Perhaps, it is the god of football's gift to their Nation, to quench their thirst for a major trophy in International Competitions over the years.
