Rukkington:

OK thnx, I will try and get d quality ones den

goldenruby:
YES! very ECONOMICAL, for both present & futuristic use, but kinda like a huge investment for a starter.
Level of absorbance depends on the quality you invest in. The high-end ones promises an 8hours stay dry, no leak, the inexpensive ones about 3 hours for heavy wetness.

The effectiveness of a cloth diaper is down to the system you use, how heavy a wetter your child is, the kind of fabrics used for absorbancy, quality of materials and even the fit of the nappy on your baby.

Brand and cost is not everything! Most of my nappies are "branded" and were not cheap but i have had various experiences with them. Even how quickly they dry need to be considered.

Microfibre inserts will be the cheapest and are likely to be the default that comes with most pocket nappies but the are also notorious for compression leaking. So never use them alone.

For me, I have found that my all-in-ones give me a maximum of 2-3 hours. And tend to leak through the leg stitches when saturated. . However they are straight forward to put on so if you want hubby or others to be able to help with the nappy changing this is the simplest route, if you get all flats, and he has to start trying to decipher folding technique he may just give up.

For nights or when i want longer performance i use fitteds with a separate wrap. As they have a larger surface area of absorbency as the entire nappy is absorbent as opposed to just a folded pad in the middle. And they are also quite easy to change when half asleep at stupid 'o'clock in the morning without having to fiddle with pins, snappy or whatever associated with flats

Flats and prefolds are also good. But some folding skills are requires with this. But this isnt rocket science and quite easy to master.

With all these you will still need some boosters and inserts to improve performance.

Cotton is good for absorbency, bamboo is better and hemp is also on the top end of the scale for absorbency as it holds much more liquid than the same thickness of cotton/ bamboo so they tend to me much thinner and also a bit more expensive.

In the early days... i used muslins as flats and secured with a snappy/ nappi nippa, these were practically dry after like an hour out of the wash. On emergency days i can still use these and boost with a bamboo or hemp insert and pop on a wrap.

This is just my own experience sha i know people who can swear one type or the other works better.

I will advise getting a bit of the different types available as you will find out that your favorite after use may not be what you thought it would be based on theoretical assumptions.

But bear in mind that with cloth nappies you will change more frequently than disposables... most disposables have a core that turns to gel and holds a lot of liquid giving you performances of up to 12 hours....
Cloth nappies on the other hand WILL leak when they are fully saturated as the urine will need somewhere to go if the nappy thoroughly soaked! So dont get caught up in any claims of 8 or 12 hour or whatever performance.... if your child pees like an garden irrigation system you will change more frequently or boost the nappy to buy more time.

I will advise you not to buy too much diapers cos i'm pretty sure you'll get lots of it after you give birth. Just buy a few packs of Newborn and Size 1s. I already bought a lot of diapers, but that was because they have all these cheap deal sites here, so I got it dirt cheap. I got Huggies Little Snugglers and Little Movers Plus, Newborn, Size 1, Size 2 and Size 3 totaling around 750 diapers in all for $60.
But if you're gonna be paying full price, just buy a little and see what you get when the baby comes cos you cannot return them and you might not use it all.

Sis please can you recommend the link to such sites cos i realised that it doesnt come cheap even in regular US stores e.g babies 'r' us, publix etc. I would really appreciate your help.
Many thanks

The love in this thread is immeasurable. Thank you mamas for the solutions. We feel much better now.

My BS part1

Edd was 28th June,it came passed no show. The next day being my ANC I visited the hospital. Dr did membrane sweep and I went home feeling little irregular contraction. The next day I saw show but no water. I waited till Sunday no signs. I trekked, jogged(my street people are still talking about this),eat pineapple, kpekus still no show. Meanwhile Tue 5th and wed 6th has been declared public holiday. Doc has already informed that if I don't go into labour naturally on or before we'd that they will induce. I prayed against this because of all terrible stories of induction I had.

I got them from Facebook swap/sale pages. Usually, every city has a Facebook based sale site (much like craigslist). Everybody can post what they have for sale and you offer what you feel you wanna pay for the item. You can then bargain and meet a compromise with the seller.

I joined my city's baby sale pages (like 6 or 7...not sure) and I just browse through what they have. I was looking to buy diapers, and when the seller posted the diapers for sale, I contacted her, we bargained on a price and reached a compromise. Most of these people sell those items cheap because they have no use for them anymore and they don't wanna go through the hassle of having to return them to the store. Some also get them dirt cheap because they used coupons while buying, especially at drugstores like CVS, Walgreens or Riteaid who usually have sales on diapers all the time anyways.

Part 2
On Sunday morning I was so worried and stayed up all night because my only option may be induction since there are no signs of labour and my next visit will be on thurs a day after I have been scheduled for induction. I then remembered a Doc in the clinic who has been a divine-guide during ttc till 1st trimester before they changed him. I cried when he left because God used him. I decided to watsapp him,as usual he opted to check me himself and scheduled I come in Monday instead. He did another membrane sweep this time more painful than the first one. He directed my file should be taken to ANC ward but the nurse took it to labour ward instead. Got home ok,eat my ofe akwu. Went to fellowship in the evening trekked like 1hr. At night I couldn't sleep. Kept feeling the urge to poo,DH joked that maybe labour wey I dey find upandan is here.I went to loo twice and slept. 1a.m Tuesday 5th July I woke up to feel the first regular contraction and I exclaimed 'labour is here.

Chineke! I almost thought I was reading a PhD thesis o! Chaiii! Nne, tuale to you for this in depth explanation.

modath, chinwedym and co, I think i am pregnant again. The symptoms are all over me. My next period is on the 17th of this month but the pregnancy symptoms are showing already. I am so worried.

I have called my doctor this morning and told him. he said i have no cause to worry. I asked him how safe is it to get pregnant after six months giving birth through a c-section.

I am so devastated. sad
