https://newtelegraphonline.com/three-killed-herdsmen-attack-ogun-community/
Suspected Fulani herdsmen have killed three persons and carted away huge sums of money and other valuables at Ilewo- Orile community in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Two of the victims identified as Amosun Ogunronbi and Owolabi Ogunronbi were siblings. It was learnt that the third victim, simply known as Philip, was hacked to death on Friday night while his body was discovered the following day.

This came as more bodies have been recovered from Gabo community in Nengev and Turan wards of Logo Local Government Area of Benue State which was attacked at the weekend by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

A resident of Ilewo-Orile, who pleaded anonymity, said the community had in the past come under similar attacks by rampaging Fulani herdsmen. The man alleged that despite repeated complaints to the police and relevant authorities, nothing tangible had been done to curb the criminal activities of herdsmen in the area.

According to him, Philip was killed on Friday night after suspected herdsmen accosted him and snatched his motorcycle, mobile phone and some money. He said: “Philip is an Egun man. He went to work on Friday but did not return.

When his wife was going to the market at Ibara-Orile on Saturday morning, she saw the body of her husband by the road side.” The incident was reported at the Lafenwa Police Station, Abeokuta and later at the state Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta. It was learnt that the victim’s relatives requested that they be allowed to bury their dead, which the police did not object to.

The source, who stated that the murder of Ogunronbis occurred prior the Friday incident, disclosed that the suspects carted away the victims’ motorcycle and cash. The cash was said to include daily thrift savings, otherwise known as ‘Ajo’.

The source added: “Amosun went to collect some thrift savings at Ishaga- Orile and he asked his brother (Owolabi) to convey him there on his motorcycle. When they were coming back, Fulani herdsmen attacked them about 8:30pm. The assailants hacked them to death.

Exactly.

I'm no fan of these people, but the truth is that only one side of the story always makes it to the press- why I did this piece which I believe you missed: www.nairaland.com/3081856/nation-people-herdsmen-press
Yes, I missed your piece which I found found surprisingly objective given the wave of negative public sentiment generated apparently by lazy unprofessional journalism - we are apparently on the same page.

Fulanis don buy land. I guessed Fulanis and Hausas in the East complained about not having an Islamic school in the East.
Islamization of the East is welcome. They must tolerate Islam if they like or not. grin

Now there are plans to turn the school, known as Islamic Centre, Afikpo, into an Islamic University. This was disclosed by Sheikh Daud Nwagui, the Headmaster of the primary section of the school, who told the Daily Trust newspaper: “We hope to turn the school into a university, that is a university of Islamic studies. There is no school like this in the whole of the South-East.”

Fulani herdsmen kill village chief in Enugu

http://www.daargroup.com/daar-group/latest-news/vanguardngr-fulani-herdsmen-kill-village-chief-in-enugu
Awoyemi said members of the OPC would no longer watch Fulani herdsmen destroy property and kill Yoruba people in their domains.

He said, “We cannot continue to keep quiet in the face of these mindless attacks. We will never allow them to drive us out of our land. We have given them general warnings and anywhere Fulani herdsmen kill a Yoruba man, deity will fight there. I will not say more than that.

“Can any Yoruba kill Fulani in their domain? We will not allow that to happen again. The Yoruba will fight for themselves.”

In Oyo State, Saturday PUNCH learnt that farmers in Otu, Igbojaye, Komu, Alapamefa, Okaka, Saki, Iseyin and others in Oke-Ogun area of the state face constant threat by the Fulani herdsmen. Some of the farmers said the herdsmen grazed on their farms, raped women and girls, as well as stole their harvest.

The story is the same in Lagun, Iyana-Offa, Atagba, Lapata and surrounding villages in Lagelu Local Government Area where about 40 herdsmen were said to have invaded three weeks ago, injured a guard and stole foodstuffs and N500, 000 cash.

Based on the attacks, some farmers in the troubled areas have decided to protect themselves against the molestations. Some of them told one of our correspondents that since the police seemed incapable of containing the frequent invasion, they were left with no other option but to confront the herdsmen.

One of the hunters in Komu, who did not give his name, said blacksmiths had been be contacted to assist in producing more guns to confront the herdsmen if they invaded their farmlands again.

He said, “We are ready to fight if we are pushed to doing so because we are not cowards. The Oluode (head of the hunters) will not hesitate to give members the go-ahead to attack any herdsman that grazes on farms and threaten to attack farmers.

“We will no longer tolerate their violent activities if the police or the government is not doing enough to stop it.”

Asked who would fund the production of the guns, the hunter said, “I will not reveal where the funding will come from, but we are all involved in this and no contribution is too small.”

Farmers in Ondo State said they were ready to defend themselves should the Federal Government fail to contain the incessant criminal activities of the Fulani herdsmen against them.

Some of the farmers who spoke with one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity said they were battle-ready for the herdsmen but they were waiting for President Muhammadu Buhari to act first as he had ordered the security agencies to deal with the armed herdsmen.

A member of the vigilance group in Akure North Local Government Area, who identified himself as Saheed, said members of the group were ready to pay the herdsmen in their own coin, should they invade the state like they did before.

He said, “I will not reveal how we are going to deal with them, but we are vigilant and we won’t expose our tactics.”

Youths in Ekiti State have also formed an alliance against likely attack by herders.

The Ekiti State Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Mr. Adedamola Gbenga, said the council met with other youth associations during the week and resolved to form a force to repel any attack by the herdsmen in the state.

Gbenga said, “We are also meeting with our chapters across the 16 local government areas on the need to stop this evil against humanity and for them to be their brothers’ keeper.”

A source in the state, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the fear of being arrested, said, “The Fulani herders should know that no one has the monopoly of violence.

The residents are still reeling from the bloodshed which occurred on Friday when nomadic herdsmen allegedly invaded farmlands in the town on border with the Republic of Benin, destroying farms and crops.

Confirming the incident to our correspondent, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun state; Mr Muyiwa Adejobi says no arrests have been made so far.

The herdsmen allegedly killed one Agbaose Sewotan after their cows entered his farm, destroying everything on their path including food and cash crops.

Chairman of Yewa North Local government, Hon Tajudeen Alani while reacting to the incident said, government would look into the matter with a view to preventing future occurrences. He said that Ogun State government is worried with the development, and will find a lasting solution.

He said the state government had already set up a committee comprising of the people of the community, Fulani herdsmen and government officials to address the disturbing issue which is likely to cause mayhem in the South west if not checked.

06 June 2016,

“I want to bring to the notice of this commission that on our way to Enugu this morning we got a report that the Fulani herdsmen are back in our community. Those who went to farm also confirmed their return through Kogi state with their castles. For the past 20 years we have lived in fears and anywhere the cattle passes through, you cannot farm there again. There is a river through which they pass and gain access to our community.

At topic this is horrible.
If it is true I hope they are punished. Who gave traditional rulers rights over other people's land and properties? And they are surprised at the audacity of the herdsmen.
Both the and those herdsmen deserve the same treatment. Thorough punishment. I'd recommend anyone of them found guilty be dethroned. What arrant Nonsense

The Tragedy of the Weak Ibo

here is no gainsaying the fact that the Igbo are endangered, politically speaking, in Nigeria. That is perhaps why Igbo politicians are often reluctant to speak out on “Igbo future” questions in public. Many would rather keep quiet or indifferent when the other major tribal groups are barking and threatening. At the best, some become taciturn, shake their heads and then bow their heads when they are questioned at home. Some will grind their teeth and try to find one intuitively philosophical proverb to explain away their fate, and why they cannot get good results from the party in power at the centre. Others speak from different sides of their mouth as to why their people should be patient and continue looking up to God, the God of Israelites who knows what to do and when to do it best in the land of Egypt.

MeAboki:
We are at least now finally getting some insight into the other side of the story; much as the Fulani have been maligned as wanton killers, it should be equally obvious that they wouldn't just wake and start killing ppl without a reason; part of that reason as we can see is that the Igbos have been scamming them, collecting money for grazing or selling them land and later renegading or collecting same under false pretext.

There was even a thread about similar happening where some youths in Amalla LG, Enugu allegedly sold land to the Fulani for as much as 4 million Naira, causing some members of the community to disagree and attempting to chase them away but only for the Fulani to refuse to budge until being refunded their money with interest.
https://www.nairaland.com/3079874/enugu-amalla-people-sold-land

We also have heard elsewhere that part of the reason for the Enugu attack was that the Igbos were killing and burying them secretly, which came to light after the Fulani discovered bodies of their ppl buried upside down and disembowelled in shallow graves - as culturally vengeful ppl, the Fulani therefore felt obliged to retaliate and the rest is now history.

It is a pity that we have poor and often biased journalism were the public are misinformed through lopsided media reporting.
We can see how some members of the Igbo host communities were taking advantage of the herdsmen, who in turn after being scammed feel sufficiently provoked to take retaliatory action - and we all know how the Igbos are experts at playing the victims card.

Stories to these clashes are often not one sided, there is always the other side, and if examined carefully sometimes you may even find the herdsmen are the actual victims.
Ok what reason do boko haram have for killing people? since the herdsmen killings on igbos are justifiable by you..anyway i wish you what you wish the igbos.
