Cantilevers are used to extend the floor space of a house by extending the slab to span across the point it stopped on the lower floor. To explain further, supposing you have a bedroom of 12 x 12 feet and you want to expand the space in the corresponding bedroom sitting on top of the 12 ft bedroom to 14 x 14 feet bedroom, you can use a 2 feet extension in the form of a cantilever to achieve a larger room. Cantilevers can also be made using other building materials like wood and iron in wood or iron frame construction.
