Also, one wonders why the other soldiers who are not defusing the bomb are standing so close. A completely unnecessary risk, in my view.
It is a routine of protecting him from sudden attacks.
Sign of unity for you.

old picture...ripped from BG and defusing a landmine or any UXO is not gallantry except the soldier hasn't been trained on how to do it.

Not to sound sentimental,
But go ask an average soldier their motive for joining the force, you would be shocked!

Bros if money is made duly legal or illegal, you would have the respect in full. Because you are in position to help others. Look at saraki for instance, if was to be an average joe what would have been the case?

When the poster meant respect it was a appreciated respect not some imposed respect.

With the way our soldier has been acting up lately, they are doing a great job but either way I can't be fooled. Respect is earned and not commanded.

I have seen soldiers beaten unarmed civilians, they swore oath to serve and protect. And footage on how foot soldier abandoned their post full with arsenals to run into the mountains. Is that how respect is earned?

Soldiers here can't snap with you while on uniform, why?

Sorry to say this but you honestly don't get my point.
But either way, I would focus more on ur questions.

Firstly, don't get misconception that soldiers are meant to be loved and respected, those two factors can't be imposed all anyone it's a choice.

Like I said, respect is earned not bought.
Courtesy demands respect.

You asked how much I would be paid to go to war.
Honestly the current state on Nigeria, well even for $1 billion dollars I won't go to war.

But in case of actual war without sentiments, I won't collect a kobo, I would go to war not for the money but for the people I left behind.
I would hold the line with my blood, not for money but if that line get crossed the people behind me might get hurt.

Don't get me wrong soldiers are doing a great job, but don't get the concept with the aim of being loved. The rest comes accordingly.
