I was lucky enough to attend a private elementary school in the US where the school fees per semester were just $800 (equivalent to N80,000 at the time). But I can CONFIDENTLY say that the quality of education I received was far more than all these private schools in Lagos that basically write exams for the kids. . .

The price is steep though. Certainly by 9ja standards/average income.

We still complain that UK boarding schools charge around £19K to £25k on average per year. Comparing average incomes, it is far more moderate. And the standards are usually very high.

Gullible parents. These people forget that no matter how posh the school claims to be, it still has to look to the pool of useless nigerian teachers for employees.

It doesn't matter that you pay 10 billion per day. Your child is still gonna be taught by poorly educated Nigerian teachers. Your child is still not gonna know the history of Nigeria or understand basic Newtonian mechanics or have a good knowledge of the Constitution and the structure of a democratic government or be taught evolution.

So, pay as much as you may, your child is just as dense or as smart or as knowledgeable as the rest.

In Yoruba land today, young Yoruba children of under 10 are used as house helps or shop helps while their age mates are in school. I only buy from such shops when I have no choice.

If you can afford it, why not? If you can't, send your child to the best you can afford. You see a lot of gorgeously dressed people who would rather spend all their money on clothes and wigs rather than give their children the best they can afford.

The level of a mans thinking is usually in propotion with is finance i wonder if you will complain of paying 3m per session thats just 1m per term if you earn between 10-50m monthly, just work hard and back it up with prayer so you can join the league, quality education is expensive all over the world

Oga forget that thing, those parents that are sending their wards to such schools, did they attend such schools themselves? But they were able to make such amount which means the school that tot them what they knew today was not bad after all.

It means that, that okokomaiko primary skul they went to those days also taught them good things, it sharpened their brains to the extent that they are making such an amount of money to spend on school fees alone.

UK policy now is, once u go skul finish for UK, dem go send u back to ur country. After all that money, u go still come meet me for labour market.

Infact, I have some friends wey leave us for naija go university for uk and isreal and ukrain. Now all of us don graduate and all of us no see work, but majority of us naija boys, still de hustle to make ends meet, me with my agro business, some in their various fields, but these our yankee students no fit do anything, always running for one interview to another. Some wey dey UK for over 6yrs now, if u call dem for phone dem go begin tell u say na shame de catch them to enter naija otherwise them no dey uk de do anything tangible but will see home based living well even upon this buhari era.


My point is, those over expensive schools is not spectacular in terms of learning, they are just there to extort money from gullible parents, simple.

What education do you want to give a primary school pupil that will worth 2 million naira? I can tutor my kid at home and he will beat all of them at common entrance exam. This is complete nonsense.

Much as we need to give our children Better education, we need to be prudent and conscious of our spending.

You really have no idea how to argue logically. I attacked a major weakness of the claim that higher school fees necessarily translates to a better quality of education. And your rebuttal ( which hardly qualifies as one) simply restates the said claim.

The problem is that Nigerians lack critical thinking skills. We can't make a simple cost benefit analysis and come to the conclusion that we need to demand for our rights to quality education and equal opportunity.

It applies to all tribes. Even though we claim to be oppressed, Nigerians generally don't want equality and social justice. They love their culture of oppression, of class, of the master and slave. The oppressed want to hustle so that they may move up in the social ladder to become the oppressor. Most people want to perpetuate the cycle of inequality, not end it.

I repeat, it is not a Nigerian school. It runs a purely British curriculum and the students don't write common entrance, they take igcse and they are accredited by several British educational bodies. It is an alternative for expatriates who want a British education for their children while they are in Nigeria.

If my child wants to be a fashion designer, I will send him to the best fashion school I can afford, if he wants to be a doctor, the best medical school I can afford. Prices in Nigeria are overrated, but people's priorities are also different that is why you will find people renting a house for 5m when they buy a piece of land and build a house for less. It is the value you place on things.

Theres no proof that these schools are higher ranked than normal naija schools. I haven't heard of any of these schools winning Cowbell Math competition.

Even if we assume your glorious British and American naija schools won't condescend so low as to compete with their fellow naija schools, why aren't they in prestigious international competitions like the IMO?

Basic Education should be high quality, free and compulsory for all, while higher education should be free and encouraged. By free, I mean tax funded like the army, police and judiciary. It is a security and development measure. After that is instituted as state priority, it will not be wrong for there to be elite schools that charge fees in the private sector.
