.The mamas keeping this thread moving ,kudos and more blessings to you,I never learned much from this thread in my first pregnancy.. I never knew anything about colics until I saw it today on this thread and I had to go and read more on it on Google, from what was described my LO had similar symptoms to colics,I was feeding him formula from the 1st day after delivery cos I wasn't lactating at all,he usually cried most especially starting in the evening till late in the night, high pitch cry, clenched hand, tighten of abdomen, very angry face, and blood coming from his narvel, but all this actually started on 3rd day after delivery unlike like colics which has been described to start from 2 or 3 weeks old infant, probably it was just something else that was giving him all the pains.Crying, stomach pain in infant ,digestive problems, lactose intolerance,e.t.c could be caused by a whole lot of things other than colics because from what I have read on colics, it doesn't kill an infant, they usually out grow colics when they get older usually at 3- 4 months.

U try wella... I enjoyed reading your lines. smiley smiley smiley

Mkae I explain this one:
Spend a lot of skin-to-skin time with your baby so you can bond.

When I had my baby, at least, 3 times a week, i carried him with his bare body and placed on my bare chest. Your heart beat is always soothing to them. I leave him there, rock him to sleep and dats how our bonding was established. Dh too does same with him
i pray anything wey carry my Diamond near where brezz dey na to begin open mouth, and there is no bonding until the brezz enter e mouth

Malaria o. Its dealing with me badly. Can't even reply some of my mentions.

Dh has been giving me "The Look" that shows he wants some. Me I'm seriously pretending to be blind right now. I can't come and go and kill myself. I try my possible best to keep him satisfied, but not when I'm terribly sick.

Yesterday he stood looking at me for a while and me I pretended to be fast asleep. Thank God he finally read my mind and walked away.

At night his hand started roaming. The speed I take remove the hand ehn, I'm sure the guy must have been shocked. Me I'm going through so much pain plus malaria right now and sex is the last thing on my mind.

Madam PresVA permission to hijack your post with a few comments...

Clothing
8 one-piece outfits or onesies (mix of short-sleeve and long-sleeve)
5 nightgowns (for use until the cord falls off) very useful for nighttime changing, no snaps to fiddle with i used mine till 6 months.
8 one-piece sleepsuits
5 pairs of pants/ dresses to be honest apart from say baptismal gown or for baby dedication dont bother... most babies dont go out much in the first 3 months... wait a while before you get any dressy outfits
2 newborn hats
12 pairs of socks or booties, to wear with nightgowns and outfits
2 pairs of mittens, to keep baby from scratching face ( these will keep falling off. Very few have good wrist elastic so check well before you buy. I had to sew on elastic to keep them in place.
3-5 (or more) outfits for dressing up

Blankets
3 large cotton blankets
8 receiving blankets (also used as burp cloths)

Breastfeeding
Lots of bibs
Burp cloths
Breast pump (manual or electric)
Milk storage containers
Nursing pillow (not essential)
Nursing bras (if buying before baby is born, buy one cup size larger than your pregnant bra size) i would disagree especially if you are originally big breasted.... wait till you have given birth to buy your main nursing bras as the difference in cupsizes can be huge especially when you are engorged. I cannot overstate the joy of a COMFORTABLE nursing bra, remember you will be wearing these 24/7 so avoid any with underwire and stick to cotton at least for night time use.
Breast pads (disposable or washable)
Lotion or ointment for sore Tips (lanolin-based is best)
Breast pad. Lansino or tommy tippe brand.

Formula feeding
Lots of bibsml
Burp cloths
8 four-ounce bottles with Tips
6 eight-ounce bottles with Tips
Bottle and Tip brush
Formula (be sure to check expiry date)
Thermal bottle carrier
Thermal flask

Sterilizer...either steam sterilzer or cold water sterilizer tablets or liquid ( milton is a good brand)

Diapering
One box or two bags of newborn-size diapers (Don’t buy too many in advance in case your baby is large or grows quickly)
diaper bag
Changing pad
baby ointment or barrier cream to prevent rash
Disposable wipes or washcloths for cleaning baby’s bottom

Bathtime
1 plastic infant tub - this is debateable if it is reaaly needed in a nigerian home... most babies a given a bath on mama/grandma's lap. My MIL used to put her legs in the baby tub to catch the water that she used to bath my daughter, i tried it but my legs too long and i got water everywhere so i seat at the edge of the bath tub with baby on my lap inside the tub. If you dont have a bath tub at home or you have a wet room ( ie bathroom with no bath or shower tray with only a drain set into the floor ) you really dont need this . Invest in a good stool
1 cup or bowl to pour water
4 washcloths, not used on baby’s bottom
baby soap or cleanser
baby shampoo (optional)
Dettol or savlon (optional)
baby lotion/ cream
baby hair brush/ comb
3 soft-hooded towels

Sleeping
If you are using a crib:
Crib and crib mattress
3 waterproof mattress covers
4 fitted cribsheets
4 light blankets that fit in the crib
If sleeping with parents:
Firm mattress (not a waterbed)
3 waterproof pads to place under baby
Light blanket (keep away from baby’s head)

Mosquito net!

some may say Moses basket, but these are a scam! Blink and your baby will have outgrown it. I struggled to get 5 weeks with mine also most are so poorly supported underneath that they tend to sag with baby's weight as they grow if they are placed on the stand. And also If you get one of the newborn to toddler rockers( see below) they have a lay flat setting for newborns so you dont need a moses basket as well

Other necessities
Infant carseat - very important for in-car safety.
baby rocker try and get the one from either infant or newborn to toddler or else by 6 months max you would have outgrown it. Fischer price and Tiny love do ones that you can use till 40lbs or 18kg that is till about 2-3 years!
Wrapper/wrapping cloth and Oja
Nail clippers or scissors (or just bite off baby’s nails as needed)
Bulb syringe for suctioning mucous or you can get a nasal aspirator instead... ita basically a little pipe you can manually suck.... funky version of mouth to nose thinz..
baby thermometer[/quote]

suzy:

thanks sweetheart. i really appreciate . Infact i dont have any list. if u have i wouldnt mind sending it to me. DH told me i should not try it dat if i should no d sex i should keep it to myself. but i no my mouth d joy might make me to say it so i decided not to even check cos he really meant it. but is it bad to know ?

HELP ME!!!

President Mofe gave me a scare over the weekend. He woke up on Friday with a serious temperature so I gave him PCM (I thought it might just be the stress of his running around lately coz since he started walking, he doesn't rest and sometimes the walks goes with mild falls) and managed him till evening, I also noticed his pooing became excessive as in I had to use like 5diapers and each change comes with poo (I administered Emgly 200mg/5ml which was recommended to control the poo) but this time, the smell wasn't presidential (Have had issues with him pooing like this before and thought it was because he is growing his first tooth but was advised to be mindful of the things he puts in his mouth since he now moves around). For Mofe's sake I mop the whole floor thrice a week to control dirt but the pooing & temperature hasn't stopped + his usual appetite for food is gone + catarrh, all this over the weekend. I'm taking him to the health center this morning but mamas tell me how to handle this from your experience. Una know say I be first timer.

All this my plenty open & close brackets tho'

Bulunton, it's never too early to start shopping, once you know the gender of your baby.

For baby things, just go to Lagos island jejely (Dosunmu). If possible, look for 'little me store", I recommend it to people cos they sell at wholesale prices. They have two on the same street, from them you can get sleepsuits, bodysuits, baby toiletries, wipes, diapers, stuff on your hospital list and some other things.
For things you are getting from other stores, try to price in at least two places because some of those sellers are armed robbers in disguise. Once they know you are a ftm, they start inflating prices. Best of luck.

Mamas in the house my girlfriend and I were arguing today if 1k can cook a pot of soup (as we no kukuma get work na grin . She's a nursing mother and me I'm preggy). She said it can't in this present economy but me I said it can make management soup.

Here's d breakdown

Meat 200 (those ones already cut down 5 pieces for 100 naira)

Ponmo 200

Okporokpo 100 (this time around its not for eating but to give the stock fish aroma to your soup)

Vegetable 100

Tin tomatoes 70

Ground egusi + crayfish 200

Palm oil 100

And voila your egusi soup is ready. At least this will carry you and your dh for 2 days while you seriously discourage people from visiting until things pick up again. And this period you will substitute with other things like rice, beans, sphag, etc.

The babe was laughing at me and calling me alaroro. Me I just told her to stay there and be forming "jand". Everyday is not xmas and there are times when things could get tight. So one needs management skills to tide you over until the booming period again. Abi I lie?
