Le Guen had a successful managerial career in France, most notably leading Olympique Lyonnais to three consecutive Ligue 1 titles. He has also managed Stade Rennais, Paris Saint-Germain, Glasgow Rangers and the Cameroon national team. In July, 2016, he was named the manager of the Nigeria national team RennesEdit During his time at Rennes between 1998 and 2001, Le Guen was noted for signing then unknown players, such as Shabani Nonda and El Hadji Diouf, who under his guidance, developed into talented footballers. He resigned from Rennes in 2001 after a fall-out with the club's board. This led to him taking a year off from football. LyonEdit Le Guen replaced Jacques Santini as manager of Olympique Lyonnais in 2002 after they captured their first league title. Le Guen experienced a grim start to his managerial career at Lyon, winning only 3 games of the first 9, but eventually took Lyon to a further three consecutive championships and reached the UEFA Champions League quarter-final. He resigned from his position at Lyon on 9 May 2005, the day after the club won their fourth consecutive Ligue 1 championship. He was replaced by Gérard Houllier. After leaving the club, Le Guen embarked upon another year away from football management. During this time he turned down management positions at several top European clubs including Benfica and Lazio and also stated that he would not return to manage his former club PSG.[1] RangersEdit On 11 March 2006, it was confirmed that Paul Le Guen had agreed to replace Alex McLeish as manager of Rangers starting in the 2006–07 season.[2] Le Guen signed a three-year contract[3][4] with the option to extend his stay at Ibrox,[1] and quickly acquired a number of players. However, Le Guen made a poor start to his Ibrox career. His record across his first ten league games was the worst start to a season by an Old Firm debutant since John Greig's team won only two, drew six and lost two of their opening ten games in 1978–79.[5] On 8 November, Rangers were knocked out of the Scottish League Cup at the quarter-final stage by First Division side St Johnstone. The result, the first time Rangers had been knocked out of a cup tournament by a lower league side at home,[6][7] prompted protests outside Ibrox and demands for the situation to improve.[citation needed] On 1 January 2007, Rangers announced that Le Guen had stripped Barry Ferguson of his captaincy of the club and dropped him from the squad for a match the following day. BBC Sport reported that Ferguson would not play for Rangers again under Le Guen.[8] Murray announced on 4 January 2007 that Paul Le Guen had left Rangers by mutual consent.[9] This made him the club's shortest-serving manager, and the only one to leave the club without completing a full season in charge.[citation needed] Le Guen's European record with Rangers has been described as being 'excellent' after remaining unbeaten in the UEFA Cup and finishing at the top of their group.[10][11] Although it was the poor domestic results that ultimately led to his departure.[10] Paris Saint GermainEdit Le Guen in 2008 It was announced on 15 January 2007 that Le Guen would return to the club he once skippered as a player as first team coach replacing Guy Lacombe at Paris Saint Germain. When he arrived, PSG were lying 17th in Ligue 1 but he led them to safety in his first season finishing 15th.[12] As the 2007–08 season in Ligue 1 unfolded, it was clear that Le Guen was getting inconsistent performances from the crop of players, as the club was in the relegation zone with four games in the league season remaining, while winning the Coupe de la Ligue and qualifying for the final of the Coupe de France. Winning the Coupe de la Ligue guaranteed PSG a place in the UEFA Cup for the 2008–09 season. PSG announced in May 2009 that Paul Le Guen would not be offered a new contract and would leave at the end of the 2008–09 season. Cameroon national football teamEdit Le Guen was named Cameroon national football team manager in July 2009, signing a five-month contract.[13] He made an immediate impact by leading the team to qualification for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.[14] He also stripped veteran defender Rigobert Song of the captaincy and appointed Samuel Eto'o as the new captain. Both players responded well to the change with Eto'o getting goals, and Song winning back his starting spot as the Lions qualified for the finals. However Cameroon were the first team officially knocked out of the 2010 World Cup. He announced his resignation on 24 June 2010.[15]

Oman and Cameroun? And he got super eagles job? What a joke of an unserious country.
Why not employ a coach with a reputable medal accolades like pele?
Hi dear.. He's better equipped technically. You said Oman and Cameroon? That's a wide range of experience. Nigeria might gain from his experience, at least we've got very talented players. Its like preparing a meal for him. I can remember the last under 20 tournament Nigeria played, talents were on parade but the norm played out. Nigerian coaches are poor tactically nd technically. Good evening gorgeous.

The news is confusing me somehow, Is he a new technical adviser and Salisu is the chief coach or he's the new chief coach and salisu is his assistant.?

I dont get it very well..

French man Paul le Guen has been appointed as the next Super Eagles coach. On the recommendation of the Nigerian Football Federation technical committee.

He will be assisted by Salisu Yusuf , Imama Amapakabo and Alloy Aguwho will serve as goalkeeper trainer.

Paul Le Guen will be the Boss. While Coach Salisu Yusuf will handle the coaching of the team Supervised by Coach Paul Le Guen.

Paul Le Guen lays the tactics and how he wants the team to play while Salisu trains the boys to meet Paul's view.

It is similar to Coach Westerhoff and Bonfere Jo's time. Westerhoff was chief coach while Bonfere technical adviser of the Super Eagles but Westerhoff was Boss.

Paul Le Guen is technical adviser and Salisu is chief coach but Le Guen is Boss.

I really don't know how this will pan out. But I would have thought it smarter for us to have discussed his record and his tactics then simply hurling one liners that only betray our failure to do simple research.

He has also managed Stade Rennais, Paris Saint-Germain, Glasgow Rangers and the Cameroon national team. In July, 2016, he was named the manager of the Nigeria national team ( source Wikipedia)

There is additional material on his tactics at the 2009 World Cup that was disastrous for Cameroun. But hey, he got them there.

Let's discuss issues, please. For the record, I don't think this is the best coach Nigeria could have hired but then again Lagerfeld ( sic) who failed in Nigeria took Iceland to the Euro 2016 QF stages, knocking out England.

So is it the coaches or the Nigerian environment?

Cool down, paul is full of experience and that's what we need.. With experience, his tactics and technical approaching of his game will be okay.. With the our array of talents and rising stars, be rest assured that he will perform

His managerial experience with the cameronian team has helped him a lot to understand africa football, so don't use his failure with the team to judge him.. That was his first assignment with an african Team. All is in Order...!

Yes. I am glad Salisu is staying. They will both help each other. Salisu around will make the preparation continue smoothly.

Salisu was already preparing for the Qualifiers. So this will mean a continuous progression. With the addition of the technical knowledge of Paul Le Guen, I see the team picking up fast.

Exciting days ahead.

Lagerback failed to qualify Sweden for the World Cup. They had good players then. I see hi Euro form more of a fluke than brilliant coaching. They were not exceptional in play.

As for Paul Le Guen, I think he has Learnt from his past mistakes and he feels he is ready to do something good.

I think we get behind the manager and move with the passion he is promising.

In as much as we don't like the coach Paul Le Guen doesn't mean we should be misinforming the people about his record. He never failed with Olympic Lyon, he won some league titles with the club.
Re: Paul Le Guen Is Super Eagles Coach by Nobody: 10:32pm On Jul 18, 2016
Celebrating mediocrity once again. The last time this guy was successful was with Lyon 2002-2005. He failed with Glasgow Rangers, PSG, Cameroon and Oman. Yet here we are.

The really sad thing is that they are likely to pay him outrageous sums they wouldn't pay a Nigerian.
Re: Paul Le Guen Is Super Eagles Coach by TheGoodJoe(m): 10:33pm On Jul 18, 2016
Paul Le Guen did not fail in Rangers because of poor tactics. It was due to players revolt. The players did not want to adapt to his methods.

Le Guen is a strict and principled Boss.

I think this guy is a good chice for the Super Eagles, he was coach of Zambia one time when we met at the Nation's cup and Zambia almost hammered us that night, it was penalty kicks that saved us. He is also a physical trainer, he will make the eagles sweat and cure them of lethargy.

Le Guen is a very good choice.

Le Guen has an academic background and a degree in economics, is a master of the minutiae and devilishly detailed in every aspect of preparation. His mantra is hard work, healthy living and off-field discipline in the pursuit of excellence on the pitch.

Paul Le Guen loves the passing game which will improve our play drastically. He is principled so we should expect a fair and unbiased list.

He is highly technical in the game. He likes his defenders playing well. He prefers interceptions to tackles. So expect card picking to reduce.
