Oil Wells: Lawmakers Insist On 65% Ownership For South-south, South-east by zubbyman: 12:02pm On Jul 18, 2016
The South-East and South-South lawmakers have called on the Federal Government to review the ownership structure of oil wells in the country to allow for at least, 65 per cent ownership by the people of the Niger Delta region. The South- South and South-East states Houses of Assembly stated this when they rose from their inaugural joint session at the weekend in Owerri, Imo state.

The joint session had in attendance speakers and deputy speakers of Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu and Imo states. They held that contrary to the present ownership structure where less than 10 percent of the oil blocks are owned by their people, the South-East and South-South people should possess at least 65 percent of the oil wells.

They stressed that this would facilitate rapid development of the region as the region’s development, according to them, is being hindered by the present payment mode of derivative oil funds.

It's a welcomed development if they can see to it that it's been implemented and not just in theories. It's high time these regions have a better share of their resources. The north resources are largely controlled by their indigenous people and same should be applied in all regions....

65 percent is arbitrary. 100 percent Ownership of All Oil Wells should revert to the Governments of all locations of those Oil Wells. This will enable them revalue their Oil Wells annually and collect Rents and Rates on the Annual Valuation of the Oil Wells. They will also collect PAYE, Profits and Dividends Taxes from those Companies. And only Income tax goes to Federal Government.

We yorubas don't agree with this. We want the fulanis to own 87% of the oil wells.

They must aim at 100%. Whoever invested in oil exploration before oil started to flow in large quantities in ND has reaped the profits a million times more.

Yoruba won't like this unity between SS and SE...like the guy above Raudeuter shouting attache by force as if former Eastern Nigeria didn't exist prior to the creation of SS and SE.

I wonder why an individual owns an oil well while the state suffers lack of funds.

I do not knpow how oil wells are operated but i think States owning them will help those states generate enough funds and even extend helping hands to poor states.

But no, instead of empowering the region with their wealth that will see them develop, Afonjas and almajiris decided to issue oil well licenses to individuals in order not to see that Eastern region develop more than theirs.

Enlightenment is about to bring justice in Nigeria. Some will be happy, some will assume their right position.

this decision is an outcome of a meeting held in Owerri.
Is Owerri south south or did we detach Owerri from South East and attach to South South ?

I smell envy and frustration here. The meeting held in Owerri, South East. So who is attaching? Mind you that SE & SS are one bound by God, nature, culture, tradition, geography etc. We swim and sink together, with us being united, you guys would never exploit us again! I hope you are not starving due to the exploit of our brave boys in the creeks? Never again shall we be exploited, the oil belongs to us and we shall own it!!!

You can keep dreaming and wallow in your childish thinking. But the truth remains your wish can never be reality. The group in south east is also found in some part of south south and there is nothing you can do about that. The bond by the indigens of that area extends beyond Nigeria and there is nothing you and your ilk can do about it except type and talk as usuall.

As we speak oil is being drilled in the oil fields of the delta, the proceeds of which accrue to the federation account of the federal republic of Nigeria. You own no more than 13% derivation and nothing else my friend. Its obvious your 'zero economy' isn't anywhere near working

NDA has bombed away Igbo interests in the Niger delta, where will the 65% come from?
https://www.nairaland.com/3151963/niger-delta-avengers-scorecard-oil

At your God given old ages, is it not wisdom to advise your people to make oil and gas investments or oil blocks produce oil by fart?
You can not talk about investment, you just want to own the block, spit!!
