1. If m= nC2, prove that mC2 = 3n+1C4 2. If 28C2r = 24C2r-4 = 125:11, find r. @ agentofchange1 et al; I really need your help ASAP, thanks in anticipation. |

invinzible1:Add 1 to d first number from right. Dats it |
| Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by Edozie82: 8:25pm On Jul 27, 2016 |
invinzible1:you should take note that the digits are in binary or base 2, so when you add 1+1,which is 2,what you will do is to treat 2 as a digit in base 10 and convert it base 2 by using repeated division; 2/2= 1 remainder 0; then, 1/2 = 0 remainder 1 the "2" now becomes 10. You write the digit 0,carry digit 1 to the next column to your left, then continue your addition in that order. |

invinzible1:There exist a simple method in analyzing 1's and 2's complements problems. Let me try and see if I could break it down for you. For example, you are told to represent (-6) in both 1's and 2's complement assuming a 4bits representation? Steps to solving the problem: Step 1: Raise the given bit by power 2, i.e., 2^4 = 16 Step 2: Add the given negative number (-6) to the number gotten from step 1, that is, 16 + (-6) = 16 - 6 = 10 Step 3: look for the binary representation of the denary number (10) in this case, that is, 2|10 2| 5 + 0 2| 2 + 1 2| 1 + 0 2| 0 + 1 :. 10 = 1010 two So, 1010 is your 2's complement 4bits representation of -6. And to get the 1's complement representation of -6; simply subtract 1 from the 2's complement representation, that is, 1010 - 1 _____ 1001 _____ Therefore, 1001 is the 1's complement 4bits representation of -6. Hope this helps! |

Festy4u:Thank you but in a scenario where you are given 1010 to get the twos how will one go about it. |

Why all this kindergarten maths ![]() |
| Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by ladokuntlad(m): 9:41pm On Aug 02, 2016 |
invinzible1:First u find d one complement I.e u change all zeros to one and vice versa Now ee av 0101 as d one complement Now to get twos complement Add binary 1 to d digit i.e 0101 + 1 Note: d 1 is added to d first Number to d right just like normal addition. And we carry over remainders wit respect to binary i.e 2 Thus we av Twos complement to b 0110 How? If we add 1 to d first number we get 2 and since we dealing wit binary, 2 is divisible by 2 once with remainder zere Thus d reason for d first zero Carrying d 1 to d next digit we av 0+1 wich gives 1 and dats d reason for d 1 and Lastly since dia is no carryover values again simply add d rest. Dsts all |
