JUST IN: Buhari’s Govt Has No Economic Blueprint – Senate

As the Senate quizzes the Minister of Finance on the fiscal policies set to salvage the nation’s economy, the Buhari’s government has been said to lack efficient economic direction.

Senator Biodun Olujimi (Ekiti South, PDP) made this damning allegation today, July 21, when taking her turn to query the Minister.

The female senator alleged that the Buhari’s government has neither economic blueprint nor an economic team.

In her words, “27 states can’t pay salaries; the markets are dry; no one is selling nor buying while the Minister paints a rosy picture.”

Battling the pejorative accusations, Mrs. Adeosun spoke vehemently to defend the government. “I disagree that we don’t have an economic management team,” she responded.

Asked if the country is currently in an economic recession, Adeosun however, admitted saying: technically, Yes, we are.
On the other hand, she argued that the economic team of the ‘change’ government stands for transparency and truth. In strong words, Adeosun stressed: “even if the truth is not fine, we will continue telling the truth.”

She clarified further:

“The fundamental thing needed to diversify the economy is infrastructure we are attacking the infrastructure deficits.

“Our focus towards economic diversification is to bridge the infrastructural gap.

“The previous administration was borrowing to pay salaries. We were taking panadol when we had cancer.

“We are not immune to the sufferings of Nigerians. It affects us all and we are doing all we can to assuage it.”

Mrs. Adeosun barely escaped the scathing daggers that came her way from all angles of the senate chamber; THE BRIEF witnessed the drilling moment.

It would be recalled that the economic team of the Buhari’s administration is ably championed by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

Since the inception of the administration, Nigerians have continued to suffer abjectly as a result of the downturn that has crippled the economy of the country.

And to those who just want this administration to fail; those who are ready to sink the ship with their fathers and mothers on board just to justify their hatred Buhari, you can continue making a fo0l of yourselves. We know that at although the FG may be short of cash, it has at least the bailed out stated owing several months of salaries induced by your hero. and the new FG under PMB is not borrowing money (externally) to pay salaries.

“We have serious challenges. Things have been tough since the beginning of the year and they are likely to remain so till the end of the year,” said Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Okonjo-Iweala said the federal government had a projected borrowing allowance for 2015 of 882 billion naira ($4.4 billion/4 billion euros). But 473 billion naira had already been used up to meet recurrent expenditures, including public worker salaries. “We have front-loaded the borrowing programme to manage the cash crunch in the economy,” the minister told reporters.
