dreaizy:You should also consider that a book is a million times easier to write/produce than a movie. Most especially shows whose per episode budget is extremely low compared to movies. |

| Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by Nihilist: 11:04am On Jul 29, 2016 |
Gbola5:Errr...No they don't. The show is significantly different enough to occupy it's own universe |
| Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by Gbola5(m): 12:03pm On Jul 29, 2016 |
rose54321:Because they are so different from Jaime and Cersei. This site puts it best; http://theculturalvacuum.tumblr.com/post/116816249708/the-book-snob-glossary |

Nihilist:The pre-show history is essentially the same! The history of the kingdoms and great houses before the show is essentially the same, not sure why you think otherwise |
| Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by Nihilist: 3:01pm On Jul 29, 2016 |
BraniacX:Errm no it is not. The extant difference between the show and the book is significant enough to have it's own wikipedia page. In case you haven't realised, the show is not actually a dramatisation of the books. Both just happen to share some plot points and characters, which is not surprising as the show is based on the books. But a story can strongly draw from source material yet retain it's separateness in a way that is both familiar and unique. Compare and Contrast Moses vs Sargon of Akkad, Jesus vs Horus, or even Comic Book Avengers vs Movie Avengers. The only way to prove without doubt that both share the same history is to highlight a scene(s) within the show that provides to a full history of the asoiaf universe that is consistent with what can be found in the books. I'll save you the trouble now and let you know that such a scene does not exist. |

The only way to prove without doubt that both@nihilist make the bolded clearer, but gun to my head I'll say the tower of joy scene. I understand if you say starting from the six season the plot of the show and the book have both taken different turns. (even that isn't certain) but from the 1st season to the 5th their really isn't much difference. what little there is can be explained away as creative problem as some stuff don't translate well from paper to screen. you could say the same for HP and LoTR. |
| Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by Nihilist: 4:44pm On Jul 29, 2016 |
SIRcumalot:There are actually several characters missing from the show that would have seen the show take different dimensions - Aegon Targaryen for example, would have a significant effect on both Tyrion and Varys's storylines in the show. Jon Snow's death as another example, is portrayed completely differently, not just artistically, but in terms of plot as well. Alliser's motivations to murder Jon are based on events that did not happen in the show. The ages of many of the characters in the show are quite inconsistent with those in the books. Robb stark in not a full grown man when he's killed at the Red Wedding as depicted in the show. He's like 15 or 16. This goes beyond artistic differences. The show and the books are completely different worlds. They just share some plot points, characters, and mythology but that's it. The best I can say is that perhaps the show is set an alternate dimension of the book. |
| Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by SIRcumalot: 6:18pm On Jul 29, 2016 |
@nihilist The way I like to see it is, two different ending to the same story. age and appearance all fall under artistic difference, ,the age of the stark kids, and dany in the book won't be believable on screen or just turn your viewers off. Aegeon isn't the only character whose absence affect plot point they're numerous. instances were character can't be totally absent their storyline is joined with another which I believe is what is happening with young griff this hasn't change some basic thing, like Jon dying or Tyrion lack of direction after his patricide. it also helps that I believe that some of the plot point introduced by G.R.R.M are just red herring and going nowhere. and the rest just won't make for great TV. |
| Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by Nihilist: 6:42pm On Jul 29, 2016 |
SIRcumalot:Aegon/yoing gruff plot line is extremely important because in the books Varys is backing that kid and not Danaerys. The removal of that character significantly has an effect on the Varys character, removing the motivation to be a shadow king and replacing it with patriotism It also means that that scene at the end of season 6 will possibly not have happened because Varys would probably not be negotiating an alliance for Danaerys instead of his own character. The logical implication of the show proceeding so far ahead and of the books is the assumption that the source material is merely a reference point, rather than canon. |
| Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by Gbola5(m): 6:50pm On Jul 29, 2016 |
Nihilist:Ser Alliser didn't plot to kill Jon in the books;he wasn't at the Wall. Robb was 16 when he died, 283-299AC, 16 is "man grown". I can agree on the show being an alternate universe, but only perhaps, because its seems like an excuse for the writers of the show. |
| Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by Gbola5(m): 6:56pm On Jul 29, 2016 |
SIRcumalot:I feel like the show should have a Young Griff, someone for Dany to contend with. In the season 6 finale, we have Dany sailing to Westeros with her army, we also have Varys making an alliance with Dorne and the Reach, there's really no one left for her to contend with. Taking the Iron Throne should be easy for her. |
| Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by Gbola5(m): 6:58pm On Jul 29, 2016 |
Nihilist:Are you saying that the show is canon ? |
| Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by Nihilist: 7:12pm On Jul 29, 2016 |
Gbola5:Why are you always in a hurry to correct prople? It really annoys me when someone quotes me without reading and understanding what I wrote. I did not say that Alliser was in on the plot to assasinate Snow... I only said his motivations to kill Jon are different. Jon's assasination was politically justifiable in thr books. In the show they switched it up completely and then gave the hatred allisers face. That is exactly what I was pointing out to the Knight of banterbury |
| Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by Nihilist: 7:19pm On Jul 29, 2016 |
Gbola5:Clearly not. So I do not expect the history to be the same as the books |
| Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by SIRcumalot: 7:49pm On Jul 29, 2016 |
Gbola5:it possible since we just killed off a bunch of characters this season finale. to be honest,I don't think he'll appear were will his power base come from ? it's too late for all this stuff I didn't like it in the book I hope it doesn't happen here too. |
| Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by SIRcumalot: 8:11pm On Jul 29, 2016 |
Varys is so far removed from young Griff that I doubt he has any influence over him. At the end his actions are still motivated by his loyalty to the targs and the good of the realm. His actions toward dany fit the same mould. Jon ordered Sam and Gilly to leave the wall with Mance's baby this is also kind of important in the book as it leads us down a rabbit hole of mance being alive, the wilding princess and down we go. It isn't so on the show. But ultimately it is to the same end kinda like Jon's death. As to what is canon,I think Martin's has the finals say. He could change so Many things with his next book It just a point of which you choose to believe. @nihilist. |

Is there a new season? |
| Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by Gbola5(m): 9:12pm On Jul 29, 2016 |
SIRcumalot:If he makes an appearance, there'd be no one to back him. Everyone is one ship Dany now. Yes it's already too late. Why don't you like it ? |
| Re: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by SIRcumalot: 12:00am On Jul 30, 2016 |
Gbola5:I just don't think it makes for a good story, at least it doesn't make Dorian Martell look totally clueless. |
