LastMumu: It is frustrating, bro. I'd barely stayed a month at home last year after service and my life seemed upside down. I almost think myself to depression. Mom would come to room time to time to check if I was thinking again. I applied for over 300 jobs in one month but to know avail. I gave up. I left Kwara for Lagos for an underpaid job in a hotel on VI, Lagos. I couldn't stay a month there. Thank God for ISON BPO, I started working as CCR same last year, though underemployed, the struggle continues. 1 Like |

No job, no work, no money, yet, every year, millions of students jostle for the very limited space in tertiary institutions and when they graduate they still join the already jam-packed labour market for jobs in that are not available! . . . Am I the only one who is reasoning in this country? 3 Likes |

kellybently: Thank you so much Mr. Kellybently for educating the (hopeless and confused) masses with your pictorial lessons. The only problem is that so many of them will still not understand the message as they are hell bent on getting a job with their certificate. There are so many people like the OP out there. So many of them are still in the tertiary institution. The will never learn the importance of having at least one marketable skill that can help you earn a living. The other day, I was discussing with one undergrad and I was telling her about the importance of learning/having a skill or two instead of depending on getting the non-existent jobs and she was like: ABEG LEAVE ME ALONE, WHEN I GET TO THAT BRIDGE I'LL CROSS IT. No need wasting my energy on her anymore. She, and so many people like her will eventually learn. Unfortunately, just like the OP, they will also learn that SCHOOL is absolutely bunkum because it is not teaching the people what they really need to earn a living and survive!!! So my dear OP, I don't pity you at all. And I have no words of encouragement for you. But... All I can tell you is that it's never too late (for you) to start. What can you do? What do you know? Can you start a blog about what you know? Can you use the computer very well? See, lots of opportunities abound on the internet. You don't need to continue waiting until you get a job. Learn to do something for yourself rather than being dependent or docile because that's exactly what waiting to get a job really is!!! Research Fiverr and see how you can get started. There's even a thread on that here on nairaland by a lady like you: https://www.nairaland.com/2390751/how-make-up-500k-every#34927043 If you decide to go by the investment way which is actually one of the best ways of earning as exemplified by that kellybently picture message, then you can send me a PM. And... I might help you... if I like you. 1 Like |

[quote author=jholam post=47999413]So after graduating from the university about a year ago i have'nt got a job. I know most of you will say (just one year and you are complaining.) Well it does'nt matter. All that matters is that one is without a job and it is extremely annoying and life is boring. You see adverts everywhere of job openings and you wonder if there are just for show or if people are really getting these jobs. Once or twice you see a testimony on nairaland that someone just got a job and you begin to pray for your own. You wait and wait for a miracle because now your degree does not matter again. If you don't have somebody somewhere, 'na only miracle you go hope on. After going through school, burning mid night candles, going for lectures, doing stupid assignments that lecturers never read and struggling to see that your name is on flimsy attendance cheat for ten marks, what do you get? Answer - A long stay in your fathes... My dr, dnt wait fr a miracle, work fr a miracle. |

ogawisdom: You know what I detest about a lot of Nigerians? Many of you are just too judgemental. Many of you lack compassion and empathy. It must be the hostile Nigerian environment. First of all, is the OP going to attend skill acquisition for free? Does it not cost money to learn 'hand work'? Even the girl that you know makes chin-chin and supplies to primary and secondary schools, she must have had someone that spoke to the headmistress/headmaster and/or principal on her behalf to allow her supply chin-chin to the students and staff. Why do you talk as if you don't know how things work in Nigeria? Okay, even if the OP wants to start selling meat pie, chin-chin and the likes, it takes money to learn to how to make these things. Are you going to sponsor her? When it comes to teaching, did the OP tell you she found a teaching job and refused it? Even teaching jobs are becoming hard to find. Many of you are talking about starting a business. Do they teach entrepreneurial skills in Nigerian secondary schools and universities? Do you know how quickly a business will fail if the business owner has no idea what he or she is doing? Do you think everyone is passionate about running their own business? Funnily enough, the children of Nigeria's ruling elite (politicians) are landing white collar jobs in CBN and customs and IRS while children of the poor and middle class are told after years of studying their eyes out to go and farm so that females will be raped on their farms by marauding Fulani herdsmen. After years of studying, you are telling people to go farm like you are going to provide the plot of land used for farming. Nigeria's business environment is not even favorable. Ask foreign investors, many who are leaving Nigeria for other countries. A country like Nigeria that cannot even provide stable electricity, small business loans with low interest rates and a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. Abeg! 8 Likes |
