Alright I gat you. I am a Yoruba guy and having two wives is not my thing at all, how can I even have two wives when I want just 2 kids.
I hear this all the time on the site that Yoruba men marry more than one wife. I didn't see this in the neighborhood I grew up, most families had highly or fairly educated parents working in various top government positions. I can't even remember if I had any Yoruba friends back then from polygamous homes.
in essence, being polygamous has nothing to do with Ethnicity or Academic level

Well to some extent it does have something to do with literacy. Look around you and you will see that poor illiterate people engage in polygamy and also have too many kids in the face of their economic crisis. just compare the average child ratio of Lekki residence and Ajegunle
I can understand when igbos accuse us of having more than one wife, and this is not far from the fact that the Yoruba tribe is multi religious compared to the Igbo tribe, and as you all know Islam allows more than one wife with reason, whilst Christianity forbids it.
If there are Muslims in the Igbo tribe, then I think they also would have more cases of polygamy.

and poor people don't live in Lekki? most residence of ajegunle are non-yorubas. are you new to Lagos?

I've never noticed polygamy to be dependent on economic or academic level either, infact rich men with all their exposure and money are the most polygamous

yoruba tribe? sir, are you really educated as you claim? cus with all the education you have acquired to know polygamy is bad you still don't know yoruba is not a tribe huh
be deceiving yourself that Christianity forbids polygamy, when you revere Abraham, Jacob, David, Solomon. I highly doubt that there's any place in the bible where polygamy is forbidden as you claim, it's only church doctrine.

Ok let me put it in a more clearer perspective for you. The reason poor people have more kids and engage in polygamy is the idea that children from such unions would help the parents when they become old, something the rich man is less worried about. You need to chill man and stop been agitated online, my reference to Ajegunle had nothing to do with the demography of any ethnicity, it was purely on economic comparison with Lekki, and I have this feeling you just want to argue for the sake of it, because any Lagosian would understand directly the point I was trying to make about Lekki rich folks, and not just once again jump into conclusion that I assume absolutely that all residences of Lekki are rich.
Do you always twist people's comments or quick assumption is your forte, because once again I wrote Christianity forbids polygamy and no where did I write the bible forbids polygamy, so don't get all too emotional friend. As far as I know there's no church in Nigeria that would conduct a second marriage for a member whilst still married to someone else, the marriage committee is set up to investigate this.
Churches believe marriage is between "a" man and "a" woman.
So I still stand on my religious and economic reasons of polygamy. Go ahead and state your reasons if you know any, quit countering mine and stop been stubborn and arugumentative.

in that case why hate on polygamy since the man is obviously making a move for a good life for himself at old age? you still haven't brought any case against polygamy or how only the Yoruba nation got tangled into this topic, yet you claim to be Yoruba? you probably are ignorant of northern Nigeria where a 23 year old man is already a father of 3 from 2 wives

I see so the bible is no longer the basis of Christianity, it's now what pastor says? I thought as much... you probably don't read your bible just sit in church listening to a man suck you off your money

I don't have to state any reason for you, you have a brain just like I do, if you have a problem with polygamy simply don't involve in it but shut your mouth up on other people's business cus you only end up making a fool yourself
Yoruba nation or whatever you wanna call it got tangled into it because someone made a sweeping statement on the thread that Yorubas are known for polygamy. And my first post was in defense of Yorubas with my reasons of religion and economy. Take a survey in the business district of Lagos Island amongst Yorubas working in banks and any multinationals and you will hardly find any with a second wife, then take a bus to orile or Ido trailer parks and you will find the low earner baba basirat having 4 wives..

Your reference to the 23 yr old northern guy further buttressed my point that polygamy is also as a result of Islamic religion.
I have stated clearly I am not in support of polygamy no matter how laudable the reasons are, and even went on to say I can't have more than two kids, but then your livid sense of argument would have me support it for the simple reason of having more kids to fend for me when I am old. See person wey wan lecture me about Lagos and Yoruba ethnic group, and yes Yoruba is a tribe or an ethnic group and not a nation like you want us to believe. Nigeria is a nation, SW is a region, Islam is a religion, Yoruba is a tribe of people who share same culture, language and religion.
Btw you could use some manners online by been less passively aggressive.

When did you take the survey that showed that Yoruba men living in less developed areas are more polygamous? you talk a load of shiit. you know nothing based on assumptions. ..you have to research

And the point here is, your plan for your life is your business. have one wife two kids, good for you. leave the other man to plan his life as he wish, abi wats your business with another man's family?

since you know the north is polygamous, why stupidly bring yoruba into your craze as if polygamy is north more frequent in the north?

Yoruba is a tribe? Nigeria is a nation? go back to whoever taught you that.. you aren't as educated as you think
Re: Steph-Nora Okere: "I Am Married To Jesus" by olaboy1: 2:43pm On Aug 06, 2016
I don't need to conduct any research, I am Nigerian and I have eyes to see through the lens of my society very well, you sound agitated and deluded.
A poor Nigerian is more likely to have more kids and wife than a rich one. I didn't bring Yoruba into the argument, you have comprehension deficiency. I have written before that someone by the username "joisfeko" wrote that on the thread to take a swipe on Yorubas, and I reacted to that before you jumped in with all your twisted opinions.

Older generations needed more kids to help them on the farms, hence the need for polygamy. Now we have different apps to solve those problems, so my generation of Yoruba men have long time jettisoned that idea. I haven't assumed anything and I owe you no further explanation to aid your lack of understanding.

Why does my education bother you so much?
You referred to Yoruba as a nation, and that's false. Look up the word nation in your dictionary abeg

you didn't bring yoruba into the topic that i know but you certainly got yoruba deeper into it, as if other ethnic groups don't practice polygamy. ..some more than yorubas and you claim only illiterate and poor yorubas are polygamous.. I found that very ignorant and insulting for a person claiming to be educated

at the end, it's none of your business if someone decides to have many wives

You should take your advice and pick a good dictionary to learn the terms you use. ..because many people call Nigeria a nation, and yoruba a tribe doesn't make it so. ..you are only as ignorant as them all. .. certainly wrong about being so educated as you claim
