What is the name of the church ?

This is unscriptural. Anyway sha, no one can try this with me

Churches have become business centers in this part of the world. It isn't compulsory for you to use a church or mosque for your wedding. The Nigeria constitution recognises any of the three types of wedding. If you've done the traditional wedding, you don't need to go to any church again. If you've gone to the registry, you don't need the other two again. We are the one giving ourselves unnecessary trouble.
If your bride doesn't want to cooperate, tell her you are no longer interested. She will be the one to beg you eventually.

Seriously, religion is becoming something else. I created this thread, so that I can just simply refer him here for your advise/opinion/comment. Because I am even angry with the whole thing. I equally heard of one particular church that will even ask for bank statement before approving to wed any couple, especially if the female is their member.

Please pardon my not revealing the name of the church and pastor. Want to leave that to the members to decide. However, The church is located in my state here in Edo State (Benin City).

Men of God will have a lot of questions to answer for what they've done to the flock in their care.

Tell ur friend Joe to go with his fiancee to her church and after the wedding, he should never go back to his former church!

Thanks for the remarks. However, it is much expected. If you believe that I was paid to mock Christianity. Why did you think I will protected the name of the church from ruins? Mind you, I am a christian by His grace, but it doesn't stop me from spotting things wrongly done within the church for the sole purpose of having a better church of God.

According to him, he had finalized every wedding arrangement including printing of invitation cards, etc only to be invited by his pastor last week. On getting there, the pastor requested for his TITHE CARD. Unfortunately, he was one of those who doesn't subscribe to owning a tithe card, even though, he is a tither. So, when he couldn't provide his pastor with the tithe card, the pastor bluntly informed him that he can't conduct the wedding ceremony without that record. After much pleading and negotiations including involving some family members, his fiancée, etc. The pastor finally gave him an option of paying accumulated tithe. A two years back log was calculated for him, amounting to hundreds of thousands. Which must be paid before the wedding can hold.

Now the issues is that, Joe doesn't feel pleased been subjected to such conditions. However, to shoulder such task, Joe suggested cutting down some of the wedding activities/expenses but his fiancée didn't accept it. And he didn't quite conform to holding the wedding in his fiancée's church because of the small size of the church building which is even undergoing construction work. Some of his family members are even suggesting to just go for registry after the traditional marriage and forget about the white wedding. All these issues are what is giving him worries.

Tell your friend to issue the pastor a post dated cheque on account that is not funded and thank me later.

I am not in a position to judge but d only question I would like to ask is this, how did the pastor arrive at the accumulated tithe (amount) to be paid or did he know what he earn as income either daily, weekly, monthly or yearly?

The pastor got the information of my friend's earnings during the cause of their discussion. Little did he know the pastor will arrive at that conclusion.

To clarify, the Nigerian constitution Recognizes the three , if u decide to do the traditional marriage only ,u must make sure u document it at a magistrate court(most people don't).
If u marry at a registry, then u marriage is recognized by the government and certain rules will be applied .(can't marry more than one woman, without a proper divorce from the court)
Once u do the court ,church wld simply become church blessing cos the church wld not issue a certificate Becos the of ur court wedding.not all churches are licensed to issuse marriage certificates.
So bro tell ur friend to save his money and do his trad and court ,wedding and if he still wants he can go with his close family to the ladies church for church blessing.
Tell him to save his money ,TImes are hard

I jst pulse reading this, tithe is between u and God and not with any pastor or bishop. Malachi 3:8-12. U don't even need to record ur tithe in tithe card or wot is it called. To whom are u recording for? But u can keep the record privately. As long as u ar faithful in your tithe paying u owe no man any explanation of any form, either in the area of documentation or wateva. We christian need to do the right thing according to God instruction and not on man's will or desire.

You are on spot. Unfortunately, most church members don't view it from that angle. How will tithe documentation be use as a means of rendering assistant to the members. What different it this from the normal social club.

The whole thing is just simple...

Let your friend look for a Hall, Decorate it to fit about 50 people...hire some gospel band that will play as if it was a church, if not, get that dj that will be playing at your wedding reception...let him come early...let him play wedding songs during entrance, signing, and exit....

Go online and look for a licensed pastor....
let him officiate your nuptial service...
it will not cost much

Tell the guest that the wedding party venue remains the same...Do i even need to stress it, a lot of people do not attend weddings only reception party....

This whole thing should not even be a headache for any one....

Tell him a Nl sister said he should pray about it and do this engagement and use the same venue immediately after the engagement for church wedding and he should just invite his bride's pastor to the venue. At least they can save more money. The only reason for wedding ceremony is to bring all family members from both sides together and a man of God should bless the marriage. There is no church wedding in the Bible.

Why is the guy troubling himself? That's not an issue to be worried about. Why was he even considering reducing other stuff just to pay hunderds of thousands to a pastor who doesn't really understand the bible. Is tithing to be enforced by a pastor? I'm a Christian and this kind of news gets me angry with some so called pastors.

He should simply hold his church service at the reception venue and get his Fiancé's pastor to officiate the wedding.

Will you kip kwayet? Were u not in this country when a particular sect billed worshippers for parking space on New Year's Eve service capitalizing on the teeming population who'd attend?
