Since it was built back then, am sure the structure will still be solid. All that needs to be done is small inner work, change the roof and paint it.

You will be surprised. But like someone observed; its outside the skul gate but thats not enough reason to abandon it. It can though be privatized.

I know these buildings very well when i was a Research Fellow in Nsukka.

The Man who donated these buildings to UNN meant very well just like others to different Institutions.

The problem is lack of maintenance; in this same estate I had a Youth Corper Girl friend and also drank plenty of Heineken.

In truth, UNN is a place where u find a Laboratory attendant ridding a Jeep. Everything is all about money without thinking about rebuilding old infrastructures.

The issue is in court, the school management and ziks family are in rift over the real ownership of the hostel hence the decay. And the hostel is not in the school premises, na off campus

We cannot blame anybody for this, not even the government, the building has been impounded

Thank you for this info. I was going to write until I saw this info. The last time I was at Nsukka, it was a girls hostel. Before I left UNN, Zik had donated it to school. So, if the family is dragging it with the school, that means they are insulting the great Zik and UNN.

The thing there is that there has been a long litigation between Zik's wife and the university over ownership of the structures. Whilst UNN say it was built and handed over to the school, the wife claims the husband only gave it as a donation for a period of time and was never given out entirely.
Consequently, the The University is wary of spending on renovation only to end up losing ownership at the end of the day. Though minor repairs was done in 2011 during the former VC's tenure.
I left there 2012, and can't say for sure, the state of the litigation.

I stayed there in my 200 level. Then, we were always afraid that the building would cave in. I think after that set they stopped giving students the block. Block D3. Ziks flat. Now a super lion and super unemployed

maintenance is always a problem in nigeria

The first day I saw that building in my first year, in 2009 my heart skipped, in saw pawpaw tree growing out of a window.
Then 3rd yr,the non sense portal allocated the hostel to me...omo I nor free oh, I spent over two weeks I. students affair begging them to change the allocation for me. Thank God they did.

it was completed. students have been living there fir years. disagreement between the school nd ziks children led to it not been renovated
