5 Things That May Likely Happen If Republic Of N'delta Emerges by TamedWolf90: 3:38am On Aug 19, 2016
TamedWolf90:
Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) said on Thursday, August 18, that nothing will stop its declaration of independence of the Republic of Niger Delta by October 1 this year.

This comes contrary to reports that the militants had accepted pleas to embrace negotiations with the federal government.

The threat as expectedly raised eyebrows in the country as many have wondered what would be the consequences, should the militants go ahead with the secession.

Here are five things that may likely happen if its done.

1. Buhari may declare State of Emergency

The civil war that seemed to have been avoided in March 2015 on the heels of former President Jonathan’s concession of defeat to retired General Muhammadu Buhari, is now looming large more than ever before.

This follows the emergency of militant groups with the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), most prominent of all.

The militants group have carried out acts of sabotage on the region’s oil blocs in an effort to cripple Nigeria’s economy, as their call for the restructuring of the nation has continue to fall under deaf ears.

However, should NDA move to declare independence on October 1, President Buhari may be forced to declare a state of emergency in the states of the Niger Delta and declare an all-out war on the Niger Delta until the militants are wiped off the face of the earth.

2. The Economy may be Grounded

Since the day crude oil was discovered in commercial quantity and quality in Oloibiri, present day Bayelsa state, the resource has been used to sustain the political administrative live wire of Nigeria.

But following claims of marginalization and problems with resource ownership and control, Niger Delta Avengers have carried out attacks on the region’s oil blocs in an effort to cripple Nigeria’s economy

The group who, by destroying half a million barrels in oil from the market, have catalysed not only the latest rally in oil, but now effectively hold Nigeria’s fate of the price of oil in their hands.

Nigeria’s economy could be grounded should the Niger Delta republic emerge.

Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) has said that nothing will stop its declaration of independence of Republic of Niger Delta by October 1, 2016.

3. Mass Arrest of Leaders and Suspects in the Region

The planned Republic of Niger Delta could lead to the arrests of former president Goodluck Jonathan and other leaders of the region.

Buhari may be forced to summon an emergency meeting of the council of state to declare the urgent need to arrest the former president, governors and leaders in the region and have them tried for treason.

New intelligence report has continued to link former President Goodluck Jonathan to the Niger Delta Avengers.

The new security report indicated that the federal government had launched an investigation on the possible involvement of Jonathan in the spate of bombings in the Niger Delta region that has crippled the country’s oil industry and affected power generation capabilities.

A splinter group, Reformed Niger Delta Avengers had accused the ex-president of being one of the sponsors of the Niger Delta militants.

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) also accused the ex-president of having ties with militants.

However, Jonathan denied the allegations, accusing MEND of plotting to assassinate him.

4. Republic of Niger Delta will Fire up Biafrexit

If the Niger Delta republic is declared, it could propel other agitating organisations like Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) to do same.

The agitating organizations will look to take cue from their Niger Delta brothers and fight to ensure they also gain independence.

5. Military to declare New Operation

The Republic of Niger Delta will give rise to a new military operation.

The Nigerian Army would declare a new operation just like the Operation Lafiya Dole to combat any uprising. But where the federal government sees defeat, it could recourse to a national conference to determine the unity of the government.

****** Modified ******
Oil accounts for 70% of our Govt total revenue and 80% of our total export, NDexit will more than ground the economy temporarily...Nigerian govt needs to work against its emergence.

This writer cum analyst is a learner.
Once state of emergency is declare in the affected states all civil unrest will eventually submit to military brutality...simple arithmetic.

Please don't forget to tell all the political separatist agitators that this time the winners take all.

We are already learning to live without their oyel money going by the fall in oil production and revenue, so the predictions that the economy will be grounded is stalled.

One doesn't declare independence with just a megaphone, I hope and wish they have better plans though cos I'm tired of this forced marriage.

If there are people to bring the country to its knees, they are not boko haram but ND militants. Aside aerial strength, Naija military can be their guests for a very long time, quote me. I only pity innocent residents.

By just cutting crude oil exports by half, the Nigerian economy went into recession, what then do you think will happen when an embargo is placed? Nigeria will certainly be grounded!

Keep consoling yourself. ND is Nigeria. Period!

No one is saying they shouldn't go but the issue is ...will there be unity and peace in the new breakaway republic? In recent weeks, we've seen several splinter groups emerging from the Niger Delta all claiming superiority, that is just a flash into what would happen with an independent Niger Delta.

As someone earlier said, when a state of emergency is declared, all civil disobedience will bow to military might and the initial restraint shown to minimize collateral damage through aerial bombardment and ground invasion will be put aside and the real brutality of the armed forces backed by its land, marine and air assets will be fully unleashed.

Definitely there will be an economic backlash but suggesting that it would be enough to ground the economy is just laughable because not only has Nigeria been able to trudge through lower oil prices than what prevails today even amidst lower oil output due to sabotage, we also just more than doubled our monthly revenue generation from about N250 billion last month to over N500 billion at the end of July all from non oil revenue raised by the FIRS and Customs.

May woe befall any militant struck with enough cowardice to call off the declaration of the republic on October 1st.

This is exactly my assumption but the military brutality might backfire leading to widescale casualties among the military men through guerilla tactics against the military, remember that Niger delta is basically a coastal region with large expanse of water around it and skilled swimmers.
The Air Force would likely play a major role but again all the oil infrastructure will be blown off including the refineries, power stations, Oil wells, Oil pipes leading to a worse recession, bankruptcy of the federal government, hunger among state workers, unpaid salaries of even the soldiers and their families and open revolt in their midst.

Only God will save Nigeria bebecause the blockage that succeeded in starving biafra can't work in Niger delta region because of water.

Again if state of emergency did not work in Borno ,how are we sure it will work in Niger delta.
The State of emergency Can never work in a war situation otherwise biafra would never have been declared.

What are you doing to live without their oil? by looking for oil in the North? Has the oil been found? in what quantity? Remember 90% of Nigeria's oil is presently in SS.

You lie to yourself if you say it's through non oil revenue. Remember the SS States had large percentage of the allocation in a month when the government said the revenue was 70% non oil based. Didn't that tell you that nothing this government says can be trusted? Last months allocations details released was manufactured. some states were missing and the published states didn't come with details.
