My current situation!

So, the first picture shows one of my beautiful baby cukes. Meanwhile, I noticed few of my plants are suffering from these diseases as posted in the other 2 pictures. Root Split and Rotten and Squeezed Leaves. They are 2 different diseases. My ogas I need help ooo. I've applied Lacto Bacillus and Garlic/Ginger extracts, I really hope it stops these diseases or tell me what else I should do. I'm losing my sleep already. @organicfoods @vanpeele
In addition to what vanpeele just said, make sure you spray under the leaves. Remove all affected plants and get a yellow rectangular plastics, rub Vaseline on it and put under the affected plants to trap pests. Fertilize well! For the caterpillar, they love hiding at the tip of the cucumber. Mix neem with PKO to knock them out on contact.

Yes, it's top soil with lots of cow dung. I'll do as you've instructed cos I've always doubted pruning this variety. Thanks again boss.
Adding manure in quantities more than that of top soil increases the organic matter content of your bagging mix translating to high water retention capacity. The large moisture volume of the mix leads to root rot. Your bagging mix would have been ideal in dry season not in rainy season. I'll recommend a mix ratio of 40%topsoil, 30%sharp sand and 30%manure for the rainforest and Guinea savanna zones. This recommended mix helps increase porosity, control soil temperature and soil air in wet seasons for sack farming.

Yes. The soil is heated for some hours depending on the temperature and what you are sterilizing against.

Yes, you make wholes at the bottom for proper drainage. Water, nutrients and pest control are very essential.

Lols. Ok. I once used "what someone said to be too much manure" on watermelon last yr. The leaves where very good looking and broad. But the plants didn't produce any fruit. More than 3000 plants. I was wondering what went wrong. Someone told me I used too much manure. That when manure is used in the excess on fruiting vegies, that they tend to produce very good looking foliage without fruits. But from the look of things, it appears cukes r really big feeders.

It's called heat sterilization. Either you use industrial oven at high temperature or you improvise using coal pot and big pot. Though sterilization has its disadvantages.

Intercropped cassava with maize. Plan sowing okra, maize, watermelon and possibly pumpkin next month.

Nah that's not good. I noticed the large leaves too though but thank God my plants are fruiting already but I so won't make that mistake again. Yes, they're big feeders and they love been 'pampered'. Why? Just a day absence, they look like you've left them for a week...lol

I wonder if I'll be able to cope with the conventional way of farming. I just feel sack farming is everything...lol...I know that's myopic but don't blame me, this is my first attempt at farming. I'm thinking herbs and other veggies like lettuce, cabbage, carrot etc later. Do you know about growing strawberry in Nigeria at all??
