From his works I've read, he is just shallow. Not imaginative at all. His characters don't leave any lasting impression on the reader.
A man who writes big, big grammar in order to please.
And again, he only writes short stories.

I think, all his life, he manage to write only one novel talking of which is ake; others are dramas that are easy to build.
You can hardly find his work that is up to 200 pages while other nobel laureates like Toni Morrison and William Golding have wonderful works that are up to 400pages and above.

As a matter of fact, his most famous novel is "The Interpreters"; a novel that has been internationally acclaimed as an art masterpiece. He had also written " The Man Died". He might not be as popular as my favourite African novelist Professor Chinua Ache be in the novel writing business . He is one of the few Nigerian writers that have dabbled into the three genres of Literature, namely Prose Poetry and Drama. Take time out to read his comedies like" The Beatification of an Area Boy" The Jero Plays and learn. Cheerio mon ami

And if you thought it's easier to write drama and poetry, you were probably not an Art student. In other news, William Shakespeare is arguably considered the greatest writer in English, newsflash, he only wrote plays and poetry. Lest I forget the Nobel Prize is not a Nigerian or African prize, it's not a mean feat.

My dear prose is the hardest. It is only in prose that you can include a full poetry or a full drama or even the both. I wonder the kind of art student you are. What is stopping soyinka from writing a novel in this age. He can still hold a pen. Can't he?
