After Airtel released this 2G data pack, a lot of Naija bloggers came up with various (actually all the same) ways to make the 2G only plan work with 3G network. Many of us will agree that this walk arounds didn't work. (3G/4G Otptimizer, Script Manager and co).

So, I did my own research and found out that Airtel India also launched the same plan about 4/5 years ago. I'm sure we all know that the only set of people more desperate for internet cheats than Nigerians are Indians. It turns out our 9ja bloggers got the Script Manager stuff from the Indians and judging from the numerous comments in the numerous Indian sites I went through, Script Manager didn't work for them either.

Now, the method I'm about to show you guys is very frustrating and is meant for those who have already subscribed for the plan. (I can't advise my enemy to do this plan)

This is it:

1. Turn off your data
2. Set your preferred network type to 2G only
3. Turn on your data
4. If you are already downloading a file, the download should resume at this point (Move to step 6)
5. If you are not downloading anything, open any webpage in your browser.
6. Without turning off your data, set your preferred network type to 3G only.

N.B: You can only use 10MB at a time both on 2G and 3G before you have to reset the network. When your download pauses or your browser shows "Your current data balance is zero", repeat steps 1-6.

P.S: Funnily, I've used about 2.8GB this way but upon checking my data balance, it shows that I haven't used more than 200MB. So, what I deduced is that the data reads only when you're on 2G. I'll update this post with my testimony if I can use more than 7GB before it expires.

PSPS: If you're downloading large files on your mobile, use Opera Mini. Uc browser has a way of making the file corrupted due to pausing and starting. If you're on PC, use IDM. Thanks.

If it's not working then it means airtel has found a way to make it only work on 2G. It's been long I used so I can't be certain.
