Really I don't get the fuse about studying abroad tho it's a good thing but speaking of this hard economy of ours,no jobs, recession and all that we don't seem to care about going abroad to study as a matter of fact you have less chances of getting a job here.i have a cousin who studied abroad she is back home searching for job with me that went to a polytechnic.i asked why cant she work there she says it's not easy securing a job there my plight is why study there in the first place.unless u have a job waiting and standby for u here. D people way study here gahn never see talk less of u wai go obodo oyinbo.

After secondary school you got admission without delay. After graduating you served without delay. After service you went for masters without delay.
Bro you took everything so fast you didn't have time to listen and plan with your widowed mom. Infant you are the real prodigal son. hope you are not from the WASTE and NUT?

People with "I must go abroad mentality" because obviously ur desperation to travel abroad is not just about d masters degree but also an avenue to upgrade ur social status as Yankee guy. How can u spend a whooping 6m+ on masters abroad knowing that ur family is just OK and you have no financial support from anyone, alternatively, u could do ur masters in Nigeria with as little as 1m or thereabout depending on d institution u wish. (thanks to ur Dad's hardwork that left u with 4 landed property) and ur mum's resistance to sell the lands, otherwise u would have sold off all d land and left with nothing to fall back at during this trying time of joblessness, because u want to go abroad n do ur masters so that National Assembly will crown u UNDISPUTED NIGERIAN PRESIDENT with masters degree from UK once u arrive Naija. lol.anyways I wish u Goodluck in ur job hunt and always remember that u owe your mum and siblings big time, including ur unborn kids and wife to be. grin grin

onismate:
Here is the story of my friend who is not happy at all. After spending a huge sum for his masters in UK, he's yet to be employed. Read below....

I graduated from the university in 2011 and finished my NYSC in 2012. I had already planned my life I didn’t want to waste much time before going for my master’s degree if I didn’t get a good job.

A month before my POP in 2012, I got a job offer in an oil firm in Port Harcourt that I served. With a salary of N50,000 they offered, I wasn’t satisfied with it. I wanted better even when part of me insisted on taking the offer. I had to tell my mom that I wanted to sell some of my late dad’s property to raise money to go to U.K for my masters. My mom totally refused. She objected on me selling any of my dad’s property to go abroad for my master. And she has also refused to give me money for school fees. She no want make I travel. She said she would only support me if I wanted to start a business.

Not that we are so rich, we are just okay. My mom runs her own boutique in Abuja. my dad only left us with 4 landed properties and I intended selling off 3 to raise money to go for my master’s in U.K, and I didn’t know where to raise any money. I thought about everything, it was really killing me. My late dad left four landed properties in Abuja, and my mom didn’t want me to sell any of them. She wanted me to keep them.

A week after my service, I had to trick my mom after much pressure I placed her in. She allowed me to only sell 2. I told her I wanted to use the money to start an agriculture business. Na so she give me permission to sell. And I didn’t even sell it for as much reasonable price just because I was so desperate. I was not patience enough and my mom was terribly angry with me. I supposed to realize about N11m on the two land sales because it was located in a good area. But I wasn’t patient enough. I hurriedly realized N7. 8m from the sales. I paid my tuition fee and every other ones in the U.K. After everything. While I was still waiting for my Visa confirmation, I mom will keep asking when and the plans about my business. I will tell her I was still working on it. I got my Visa before telling my mom. My mom nearly went ballistics when I told her I was using the money for my masters in U.K. I had to beg and kept begging. Even when I was leaving for U.K, she didn’t even talk to me. She felt betrayed about what I did.

After my masters, I came back late 2014. I and my mom had finally reconciled, I felt fulfilled that my value has risen in the labour market. Not until after job hunting for 2 months, it looked as if my education was nonsense. It looked as if I wasted my time and money in U.K for masters and was not able to get any reasonable job. Employers no even send my U.K certificate sef. After spending about N6.7m for my school, stay and all expenses in U.K, I am yet to get reasonable offer. I am beginning to regret, I would have heeded to my mom’s advice to use the money for business.

This is 2016 and yet no job. And I didn’t want my mom to know about my so many weird job hunting ordeals, because it would look as if it was out of my disobedience I refused to listen to her. The one that angered me most was the job interview I went for last week. It was boldly stated that they wanted people with masters. It was after the interview only for me to hear that the company only recruited Bsc holders. Infact I was told that the interview we did was just a formality, the company had taken people they wanted. I was so pained when I heard that. That was not the first time such a thing is happening. There is no longer equality in Nigerian job hunting labour system. To get a job now is about “WHO IS YOUR FATHER” or “WHO DO YOU KNOW.”

Well, but I know God, am being hopeful that soon I will get a good job. I just decided to take the little money I have to do start up a small business.

Dear OP, sorry about your situation but this is the result of not listening to elders and rushing into things without proper investigation, I was once like you after Nysc but I was lucky someone advised me that any traveling that doesn't involve work permit and stay after my studies is not worth it. However fishry is quite lucrative, you don't have to start too big. No time to waste over sober reflection.

This life is all about planning, Strategy, Look before you leap, Should i say you went to a country that don't really care much about your job prospect for your master's? There are better countries to obtain your Msc with work permit probably retain you there with a permanent job offer after completion which i think you can hustle back the money you used in your Msc. In my own opinion US, Canada, Australia or any other country in Europe would have been better than UK interms of hustlin' during &after studies.
UK is nice, very good 4 studies (1yr Msc). But a no-no 4 me cos i need hustle too to send things back home.

Many of my friends are roaming the street with UK Msc Cert. No job yet. They returned upon completion of studies. If change still remain i advice you start small biz while searchin' for good job or you migrate to any makin'senze country with good Economy.

Meanwhile, i wish you all the best of luck in your job search.

I don't know why people will go for their Masters with the hope of landing a good job afterwards and not for the academic benefits which is the why one should go for his Masters. Nigerians will go for their Masters without zero work experience after B.Sc!

What course did your friend studied for his B.Sc and was his Masters done on that field? I have seen economics graduate travelling out to study Greek for their Masters in Ukraine!

I wish your friend goodluck.

Na wetin im go do with greek for naija? Him go teach am for school?

This is a typical example of when a certificate becomes our enemy. Must we be employed? Don't we have passion for anything that we can develop and sell? We have become nothing but dependent on others searching for how to blame the system instead of ourselves. It's a shame if we have reached this height and yet we can't activate the creative power of the brain to serve us. In the voice of born again Christian, if you go school and you can't do anything for yourself outside your certificate, you need deliverance.

Onismate YOU'RE a very wicked child. GOD!!!

if you could do that to your mom, what evil devise can YOU not employ to get something out of your wife.it serves you right. You are so heartless and cruel. Imagine if she was someone hypertensive or had high bp, she could have died on hearing the news that you sold 2 lands at 7.8.even developing areas in ogun or oyo state won't sell their lands so cheaply. I bet the buyer sensed your desperation that's why HE played a fast one on you.

How will you feel iF you went to study in uk and on your arrival you heard your mom died of shock or stroke as a result OF your mean behaviour. I guess the disobedience and masters is worth all that

Assuming you listened to your mom and set up a buisness like she advised YOU to do I'm sure you'll have been smiling to the bank now.

Its your cross carry it now.

Afterall the elders say what an elder sees sitting down,if a younger person sees it standing up he'll go blind. I bet YOU'RE wiser than your mom. Mr i must study in u.k.

When will she not know. It's a matter of time

What an evil child YOU are

Solution; YOU better go and beg her for forgiveness. YOU don't know what she has said out of anger, pain or sadness that is affecting your life. Beg her seriously and ask her to pray for you

Who knows whether she has cursed you in her mind sef

You took a risk. Was it worth it? Yes! Did you make a mistake. Yes and No

Try to see if you qualify to emigrate to Canada with your UK Masters. If yes then take the risk.

Sad story. With 6.7m, my brother you for don start better business o. Even if you get a decent job now without any experience, you won't be paid more than 200k/month except, of course, it's an oil company. If you earn 200k, it will take you almost three years to get back the 6.7m. If you had acquired more professional certifications, you'd have been better off. I pray you get something better sha. I know you will eventually.

Exactly, that 6.7M would have started up a very thriving and money spinning business by now.
