some people are still fighting with bottle and you want to give them gun..our legal system is not yet strong enough to handle the backlashes that will occur..husbands will shoot their cheating wives..poor people can't afford good guns so oppression gets stronger..
Re: Why Guns Should Be Legalized In Nigeria by peculiarchworld: 10:32pm On Sep 02, 2016
Majority of Nigerians are not civilized enough to be allowed to possess weapons. I can imagine how many would die through accidental discharge because of someone's ignorance. Police that are even trained to handle weapon end up killing someone and they would call that accidental discharge.

If there are a pool of people that should never be allowed to own guns in the world, it would be Nigerians.

Do you know that after India and china , Nigeria has some of the highest number of road accidents in the world. That tells you a lot about Nigeria. We are not ripe for such.

Nice point d op made, but d aftermath of it will be killing of innocent people everywhere, dats we Nigerians we abuse it
Re: Why Guns Should Be Legalized In Nigeria by luckyz4rea(m): 10:58pm On Sep 02, 2016
Your points are so on point! But more damage would be done to innocent people if legalized, especially in Nigeria where people are always at the peak of carelessness!

People that steal don't come from faraway but from within! All they'll do is get an informant on where the guns are kept. They'll even specialize in stealing the guns!

Many people don’t seem to realize the benefit of legalizing guns in Nigeria. They think of the disadvantages alone, not the advantages. Why are we narrow-mindedly opinionated about this issue?

1. Men go into a house to rape a defenseless girl. Would they try that if they knew she’s armed with a gun? Rapists want to rape and live, not to rape and die.

2. Many aged parents still cry days and nights, while their broken souls plead for vengeance. Their innocent children were killed in Jos and elsewhere while they were serving their fatherland.

3. In Nigeria, most criminals want to do bad things to people and go scot-free. If they knew people had guns as well, they would think twice.

4. I must be blunt, what gives most criminals the gut to attack people is because people are defenseless. If 20 assassins go to a man’s house, they’ll kill him. But the man can kill up to 3 of them before he dies. This is better than when the man is killed without being able to kill anyone in return.

5. One-Chance, terrorists, herdsmen, militants, money ritualists, armed robbers, thugs, bullies, etc., are able to go away unscathed in most cases because their victims don’t have guns. To be frank, those who attack you have power over you only because they’re armed and you’re not.

6. If most members communities have guns in their hands, do you think armed robbers would like to go to their lion’s den to molest them?

7. Militants that terrorize communities would be afraid to do so; unless they’re going on suicide missions. The same is true of mad Jihadists. No mad or rabid dog would deliberately run into a burning fire.

8. Domestic violence would cease…. A corrupt cop would cease pointing their gun to a poor and helpless okada rider because of N100.

9. Lazy thugs that collect money they don’t work for would think twice before they start cursing or threatening their victims, ordering for money they don’t work for.

10. It’s true, many people would die. But the remaining people alive would sit right. They would show respect for one another. Politeness would prevail and crimes would be reduced to almost zero. Isn’t there any sense in this?

GUY.........I LIVE IN SOUTH AFRICA WHERE GUN IS LEGALIZED. IF YOU THINK THERE IS CRIME IN LAGOS OR NIGERIA.

YOU NEED TO COME AND EXPERIENCE THIS PLACE FOR A WHILE. THIEF KILLS FOR 10 RANDS. THIS IS LIKE 200 NAIRA.

THE REASON FOR THIS WAS THAT GUN IS LEGALIZED AND THIEF KNOWS THAT THERE IS POSSIBILITY OF YOU BEING ARMED AS WELL.

HENCE, THEY ARE QUICK TO PULL THE TRIGGER AT ANY SLIGHT SUSPICION.

A NIGERIAN GUY WAS RECENTLY KILLED IN THE COMPANY OF HIS FRIENDS BECAUSE OF PHONE. YES YOU HEARD ME MOBILE PHONE.

BY THE TIME GUN IS LEGALIZED IN NIGERIA, IT'S GOING BE KILLING SPREE !

WE SHOULD BE CAREFUL OF WHAT WE WISH FOR .
Re: Why Guns Should Be Legalized In Nigeria by pansophist(m): 12:16am On Sep 03, 2016
@op

your proposal rest on an illogical premise, its just a constant repetition of the victim killing the perpetrator, with the implicit notion that the perpetrator might not be armed too. I will not want want to live in a society where everyone has lethal weapon, with the sole aim to kill potential provokers. such society is pathologically sick and an hallmark of violence.

A gun infested society is risky for everyone. Just with the click of a finger, your life is gone, endangering your children's life. citizens will take law into their hands, mass shooting becomes common place, jungle justice becomes easier, tribal war warming up at the corner. Just imagine if gun is legal, the Fulani mayhem would have escalate beyond proportion. With jobless youth everywhere, expect crime and all societal disease. Totally against gun legalization.

@OP, I'm with you on this one, 'we know wan die but we still dey die'....its one thing not to have food in this recession it is another thing for robbers to take the little you have at night and still go free!. Nigerians grow up....we think upside down....leave urself defenseless yet robbers, gangs, herdsmen, terrorist, militants, touts, politicians all have guns.
Re: Why Guns Should Be Legalized In Nigeria by Rick9(m): 12:23am On Sep 03, 2016
In as much as I advocate being armed in order to be to defend oneself, I still believe that majority of Nigeria citizens don't have the rational and mental capabilities to handle guns,
They would start shooting each other at the slightest provocation. Guns hell no

It looks like common sense, but what you are going to have is ARNACHY!!. and it will never come to an end, especially in a developing country that there in injustice and equality. many will turn the guns from defending tools to oppresion tools. due to corruption, godfatherism and proliferation of guns already in the society, the sofistication will increase to overcome your attackers and it will be difficult to identify ownerships of such assault weapons. wild thinking. come back to reality and lets say no to injustice through better police force and the judiciary. thats the only way to have a saner country. when everyone knows that no matter who you are, where you come from or how long it takes, you pay big time when (not if) you are caught, even with ur life as the case may be.

Point 1 makes sense, however point 2 is merely literature as you have expressed no point in relation to the subject, and point 3 through 9 are merely repetitions of the same idea (which is that guns are a deterrent to violent crime). Furthermore, point 10 is not a point, but is the conclusion of your argument.
Re: Why Guns Should Be Legalized In Nigeria by Kgdavid(m): 1:58am On Sep 03, 2016
Fact is, gun ownership will require regulation for which a framework just doesn't exist at the moment.

1. Who will monitor who is buying guns? Who will monitor who buys guns and then resells them? Who will check that the buyers of guns are sane?

2. Who will verify the skill level of gun users? stray bullets will kill the innocent as happily as they would the guilty.

3. History has proven that violent deterrents to crime do not work. To solve the problem, you need to address the root: poverty and socio-economic deprivation.

3. The average violent criminal is often one with a do or die mentality and is ready to do the worst. So while you may frighten some petty thieves with a shot or two in the air, you better be ready for your private version of Sambisa forest if you are thinking of confronting some hardened and well armed, often drugged up, hungry street boys with very little to lose.

It will be misused here in nigeria.

for example, if a girl breaks your heart, you can just shot her dead when you're emotionally drained.

hope you're aware about chris brown news that went viral few days ago?? he almost shot his girlfriend for admiring another guy.

Stfu breezy didn't try to shoot someone get your facts right

even the USA is trying hard to control gun, but thing has already got out of hands

there's another alternative we can use to curb criminality, arm-robbery and so on aside from legalizing gun.

nigeria got no chill at all, use social-media bashing from nigerians as an example - assuming it's possible to kill through social-media, - i am very sure nigerians would have killed half of the world population by now.
