I saw a thread titled, I believe, Nigeria states and what it produces. Considering a year ago I actually did a research paper on this exact topic, it intrigued me therefore I opened the thread and upon reading the thread, I noticed some states intentionally ommited, some states intentionally included and given higher percentage than it should and a cash crop (Round wood) that is no longer exported from Nigeria anymore due to the 1967 ban placed on it, intentionally included and what really caught my interest was the Gold production. Where I do know the states with gold in Nigeria are Abuja, Abia, Ebonyi, Edo, Kebbi, Kwara, Niger, Oyo, Sokoto and Zafara but according to the thread I spoke of somehow, someway Osun and Oyo are the gold producers of Nigeria with a minority of North sprinkled in. That peeked my interest so I decided to redo the research I did a year ago. Round wood is no longer exported from Nigeria since this has been placed on ban since 1976. The round-wood produced in Nigeria is mainly non-coniferous hardwood. There are no authentic series on it since the 1990s’. However, the Central Bank published estimates are reported with FAO’s forecasts for comparison. It must be noted that round-wood statistics includes industrial round wood, poles and fuelwood. http://www.fao.org/docrep/004/x6762e/X6762E04.htm The Dominant cash crops in Nigeria |

I have read all the comments here, and to my surprise, no single Igbo person has been able to state what the south east contribute to the Nigerian economy. If it was a south south person that was asked this question, u will see how they will proudly tell u they have the oil that keep Nigeria running, I respect them for that. But now someone asked what the south east produce, instead of stating what the south east produce, Some are even begging the Mods to close down this thread just because a concerned Nigerian wants to know what their region produces. Hypocritical people. When it comes to bashing the north, u will see them full this thread posting bullshit against northerners and calling them parasites, not knowing that they too are part of the parasite, As if they are not part of the people eating the oil money from the Niger delta. |

[b] A little of history I read while doing this research. something that caught my interest and I feel needed to be shown (sidenote: yes it is another debunking myth) The principal mineral occurrences discovered by the survey teams included lignite deposits at Asaba, lead-zinc ores at several locations, tin and columbite in the south-east, monazite, limestone and lead-zinc ores at Abakaliki district. Others were coal at Enugu, brine springs at Arufu and Awe, Galena in Jos area, iron ore deposits in Niger and Kwara districts and marble deposits in Jakura. Mining activity in controlled form, however, commenced in the country in 1915 with the production of coal at the Enugu mines. Prior to the discovery of petroleum, Nigeria was impressively sustained by agriculture and few solid minerals known at the time, namely coal, tin, columbite and gold. Coal, for example, met fully the needs of our railway system and electricity supply while tin yielded substantial foreign exchange earnings for the nation. In addition, these minerals also offered employment opportunities. The downturn in the economy and the introduction of the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP) necessitated a review of Government thinking. The result is the crystallisation of the concept of diversification of activities, and the promotion of privatization and commercialization. In other words it was agriculture, Coal, Tin, Columbite and Gold was what sustained the country prior to the discovery of Oil meaning North, south south and south east were the regions that sustained the country before everything fell on south south's shoulder http://www.nigerianstat.gov.ng/sectorstat/sectors/Minning%20and%20Quarrying%20%28Solid%20Minerals%29 I don't know about anyone else but I found that intriguing. Moreover, it's dumb asking Ndiigbo what we contribute to Nigeria, when it's obvious that we don't want to be part of your Nigeria. The question of "what do you contribute to Nigeria" should be exclusively reserved for those who argue for Nigeria unity. The burden of proof lie on them, and not Ndiigbo. Because anyway you look at, the answer to that question when thrown at a group like Ndigbo with no affinity for Nigerian unity will never favour Nigerians. Let's look at. Scenario 1, Ndiigbo doesn't contribute much to the Nigerian economy. Duh! That's the more reason why we should be allowed to have our freedom, Scenario 2, Ndiigbo contribute alot to Nigeria. Well, that explains why we must leave Nigeria, it's a parasitic state to us. So you see, this question is dumb. As it changes nothing. Head or tail, the Igbo man still wants out. |

kettykin:Since we are not contributing any thing to the national economy, why not let the Igbo people seceed without so much drama. N'a by force to help person? We say we no need una help but you are forcing it down my throat. That's because you need me for something no other person can provide. Your so called lagos is largely populated by the same race you are talking about. Almost half of that industry and businesses are owned by the Igbo and some expertrates. You also forget that Abia, and Imo are part of the NDDC. Have you asked yourself why?. OK. Agriculture ? Have you ever asked yourself where all the very large yams in the market come from? Anambra and Ebonyi. Rice nko ? Anambra, uzouwani in Enugu state, and Abakiliki. Please research before posting a comment to expose your folly |
