First try at DIY fitted cloth nappies.

I believe this would fit from birth to about 10 or 11 kg.

Image 1: nappies layed flat.
Image 2: nappy in smallest fit
Image 3: in larger fit
Image 4: on alphababy ( sorry the pic is over her nappy and clothes!!! was too excited i couldnt wait till nappy change grin)

I need to do some adjustments to make it in to a larger size version. And also tweek some of the techniques... but all in all i must say i am pleased with it. It hasnt been tested yet though. Will have to wash it first and let you know how it performs in terms of absorbency.

from my understanding, the purpose of the carton is to get accurate measure/size for the flannel u r cutting. U first cut the carton to d size u want and use it as a guide for the flannel for accuracy.
The carton is not to be part of the flannel but just a measuring guide.
I don't know if am making sense?
ofcos u made alot of sensible sense. Thanks alot 4 dat response. God bles u n urs

My dear, I have to say business is fine because I am a Christian, any business that can survive this period can survive anywhere. Importers are not importing, those that manage to import cost price will be times 3, it is affecting all product. We import everything in this country for two months now no peak 123 refill in portharcouth. How many can i mention.
My advice to mother's if the milk or diaper you are using is getting to expensive pls PORTING is allowed. How will help us.

Lifeline Children's Hospital tends to use ear piercing guns (though it tends to run out quickly and they charged N5000 for piercing as at last year). They have locations in Surulere and Lekki so you could check there.

There is no Nido milk refill in my area and I've driven as far as Ajah and Iddo markets to find it. It's scary because my mum says this has happened before in Nigeria during our president's first regime (products disappearing from shelves) and one reads about countries like Venezuela (who had almost all the same problems like Nigeria) where people are queuing up for 4 hours to buy milk and I start getting scared. It is well.

Please mamas if you find a product your baby likes, try and buy enough to stock up till like next year and sit out the storm. I've stocked up on Dove soap and will do the same for body lotion (or we switch to shea butter).

For mums looking for shea butter and other organics, I have been buying from Deji of Sheamapo organics for 2 years now. He has good stuff and is based in Ogun state but ships anywhere. I unfortunately lost his number but I will post his blog and Facebook here

https://sheamapo.

https://free.facebook.com/sheamapo.organics?_rdr

I make my own diaper cream from beeswax, she's and cocoa butter and oils and it used to be that N10,000 worth of product from him was enough to make diaper cream (and body butter) to last at least 2 years (you will never finish the beeswax so you may consider sharing with another mum).

Good morning mamas. Please i have some questions i need clarifications on...

1. Whenever baby poops, it comes out from the top of the back of his diaper. Is there something i'm not doing well in respect to how i wear the diaper? Or could it be the diaper itself? I use molfix. It wasn't like this when we were using the mini size. It started leaking from the top when we moved to midi size.
My baby is two months old.

2. Baby is always coughing and makes choking sound when he's breastfeeding. How can i stop this? Yesterday, it led to him vomitting all the milk he sucked. But he's fine. No crying, no temperature, sleeps well and sucks well.

3. His diaper rash is back and refusing to leave. His bump is reddish and peeling badly. Any recommendation on what else i can apply to get rid of it!

4. I noticed something like dandruff on his head yesterday. Can i start using shampoo to wash his hair and what brand do you use or recommend?

Please, if you have an answer to at least one of my questions, pls help me out. Thanks

This is called blow-out, dont worry it happens every now and again and is quite common in breast fed babies as the poo is so watery and sometimes comes out with a bit of force that the nappies may leak. Annoyingly the back of most nappies are the weakest point!
It sometimes doesnt have anything to do with how you fit it or the brand of nappy. However it could also be that the new size doesnt fit quite well yet, it should get better as he grows.

2. Baby is always coughing and makes choking sound when he's breastfeeding. How can i stop this? Yesterday, it led to him vomitting all the milk he sucked. But he's fine. No crying, no temperature, sleeps well and sucks well.

I guess this may be due to him rushing his milk. It should ease up as he gets older and developes better control.

3. His diaper rash is back and refusing to leave. His bump is reddish and peeling badly. Any recommendation on what else i can apply to get rid of it!

What are you currently using? Try switching your nappy cream.
Try giving him some bum air time inbetween nappy changes. Also change him more frequently.

4. I noticed something like dandruff on his head yesterday. Can i start using shampoo to wash his hair and what brand do you use or recommend?

This is cradle cap i believe, some people just apply a generous amount of olive oil let it soak, and give it a good brushing before washing it off. For shampoo you can try dentinox cradlecap shampoo.... my SIL swears by it, although it didnt do any instant miracles for me. It might take a while but it will clear. Ours finally subsided at about 8 months.

Please, if you have an answer to at least one of my questions, pls help me out. Thanks

mitchyy,

1. It's called Explosive Poop. The force of very soft poop being pushed out, it releases like a bomb, Gbwaaah! Disposable diapers are made of mostly paper and their backs are very weak. So the best you can do is change his diaper brand: the Molfix you're using may not fit him properly right now (I too had that experience with Molfix, I think the brand has fit issues so it can leak on a baby who isn't the right size). Try Huggies, just get the smallest pack you can find and see if it wraps around his waist snugly.

2. Alphahandmaiden's reply.

3. Air his bum bum a lot. If you have recurring rashes that are very bad, sometimes it could be a yeast infection and no Sudocrem (zinc-based cream) can treat it. You will need an anti-fungal cream like Baby Tribotan. But before you start using an antifungal cream, please Google "baby bum yeast infection" and look at pics of it. So you know If that is what you're dealing it. If it isn't a yeast infection, diaper-free as much as possible, change him frequently and get a zinc oxide based cream (Sudocrem and most thick white diaper creams are zinc oxide based and read the back, they will write that zinc is their active ingredient).

4. It could be cradle-cap. Dermatologists recommend Sebamed baby shampoo, use once a week. But you can use oil, allow it soak in for 30 minutes and comb out the flaky skin gently. Olive oil may be too light, try Coconut oil or Almond oil (the thickest). A small-medium sized bottle of Almond oil (HTC brand) is sold for N900 at ebeano supermarket. Check the food section of most supermarkets for almond oil.

for d hair, if u can get palm kernel oil or ask a Dr if he can use nizzoral shampoo it works wonder but for his age (confirm from ur Dr first.

4. Air his bumbum and try Whitfield ointment for like 2 weeks. Don't always put him on diaper.

2. don't allow him to rush d milk, remove brezz at interval, let him rest then continue. Make sure d milk flow is not touching the upper throat.

Good morning Babythug, Zemaye and Tojued, Evamum and any other mamas with new babies. How goes it?

LiftesHands and ocyzy, DrAda shared here that Peak123 milk was very sugary. Imagine combining it with Nigerian Cerelac and then expecting a weaning baby not to complain when offered Nigerian food (which is savoury and not sweet). I remember in my lactation class our facilitator told us there was no such thing as "Follow-Up milk" for toddlers, that it was a marketing gimmick by companies to sell regular whole milk to children, add sugar and rack up the price from normal milk. Your toddler can drink Dano Full cream or any Fill cream or whole milk.

Morning my dear

The vigils are for real mehn! In other news we are one month today.....

To God be the glory! I'm happy at the restructuring going on in this thread.... My able capo I salute you!

I did the same in the U.S. and it was recommended because of dietary needs, every ebf baby is prescribed vit D supplement. When I got back, a doctor told me it wasn't necessary because Nigerian diet tend to be rich in foods heavy with Vitamin D (I i believe he said all the meat we eat compared to the U.S. where they can have salads for lunch daily and it is not like our type of salads). So you can give it for 2 months if you like, it won't harm baby. It is stuff like complex multivitamins that are not recommended, especially when a doctor doesn't recommend it. HTH.
