Well, no competition there Einstein is in a world of his own. Agreed edison, was a hardworking entrepreneur, but one cannot call him an inventor. It was edison who spoke in a conference "that in the industry, everybody steals and that he can never be caught because he knows how to steal". It was edison under the sponsorship of JP Morgan, tried to discredit tesla's work on AC against his own DC. Well, we all know how that worked out.

As far as geniuses go it's only Leonardo da Vinci that can be compared to that of Einstein. Einstein work on relativity, photoelectricity, brownian motion, avogadro's number/size of molecules, bose - einstein condensate. The list is enormous, most inventions we have today from nuclear plants to solar energy are all as a result of einstein's works. It's on record that Albert Einstein destroyed most of his calculations(including that for time travel) after the dropping of "little boy" on hiroshima, because of the destructive nature of humans.

For me, Albert Einstein is the greatest.

I think anyone with a good inquisitive mind can come up with many applaudable Hypothesis/theories. But the onus is in its applications cause that's when you'll test the true reality of such theories.
So let's give it up to Edison, it's not easy transforming abstract to substance.

Theories tell I'd what we can do. What we cannot do. How our world behaves and how we can shape it. It's easy to go out and do stuff when you already know what is possible.
350+ years ago, Newton stated three laws. Today, our entire world is based on those laws.

Almost everything Edison made has been replaced by new technology. And guess what, those technologies are based on what Einstein did.

congratulations. You have now succeeded in showing that world how limited your mental capacity is.

Technology is defined as application of science to problems of man. It then follows that without science, technology cannot progress. Indeed, progress of technology is limited to the level of scientific understanding.

It follows that technology CANNOT be modified if scientific understanding does not increase. So when you judge contribution top the world, you rank scientific research higher than technological advancement. Even if it is a pioneering one.

Next time, think twice before hurling insults on the internet.

I asked which is more outstanding, not which is harder. And I asked because it seems Edison was more of a technologist than a theorist.

To the best of my knowledge, laws guiding a particular phenomena have always been there, it's just left for a curious, inquisitive mind to discover it by paying special attention to patterns and details.

Newton discovered gravity didn't mean gravity didn't exist until then. 


Therefore theories are just insight into the mechanism of a phenomenon, which sometimes are not 100% correct until you try to apply them, that's when you discover the errors and hence modify the theories.


Application involves more brainwork, as it entails testing and pulling together of related resources. Which sometimes takes years of dedication, testing and modifications.

Anyone can be a theorist, but same can't be said of technologists.

But I'm not supporting anyone per se, the theorist and technologists both work in tandem for the common good.


This will make for a good debate.

Anyway, in matters of outstanding, Einstein wins again. You should see The math involved in relativity. 90% of the world's population cannot understand it. You should study it. The punchline is crazy brilliant.

Meanwhile Edison's inventions are pretty straightforward. And even then, he stole most of those ideas.

On electricity, Edison almost ruined the world by insisting on DC current as opposed to the better AC.

Thank God no one listened.

I have 6 foreign publications and 14 local publications, I am currently working on the rate of cation-anion exchange in the soil with respect to charges in the atmosphere, the possibilities and promises this research portends are endless.

You know little about research else you'd have known you cannot have access to journals anyhow except you're an academic and even at that, most researchers in Nigeria do only retrospective studies which are useless to mankind but good for being professors..

Mind you I'm in the academia as well and I've applied for publications in BMJ and the Lancet (google them) so I can relate
