vodutive:for your mind now, you're smart, Abi? OK. Well, the question was asked about who contributed more to the world and I simply gave the answer. There is nothing wrong with what I did. All this is story. |

Truth234:1000 patents on stolen ideas is nothing compared to 1 solid theory. If we had to rely on Edison for communication, I'd be quoting you via telegram now. Not THAT telegram. |

hUmaneOne:congratulations. You have now succeeded in showing that world how limited your mental capacity is. Technology is defined as application of science to problems of man. It then follows that without science, technology cannot progress. Indeed, progress of technology is limited to the level of scientific understanding. It follows that technology CANNOT be modified if scientific understanding does not increase. So when you judge contribution top the world, you rank scientific research higher than technological advancement. Even if it is a pioneering one. Next time, think twice before hurling insults on the internet. |

Teempakguy:Which is more outstanding.... The theory or its applications? I think anyone with a good inquisitive mind can come up with many applaudable Hypothesis/theories. But the onus is in its applications cause that's when you'll test the true reality of such theories. So let's give it up to Edison, it's not easy transforming abstract to substance. |
| Re: Between Albert Einstein And Thomas Edison Who Contributed More To The World? by Nobody: 3:11pm On Sep 04, 2016 |
herald9:the theory. Think of the universe as a big machine with a hidden manual. Throughout human history, we have strived to reveal snippets of this great manual in form of theories. Theories tell I'd what we can do. What we cannot do. How our world behaves and how we can shape it. It's easy to go out and do stuff when you already know what is possible. 350+ years ago, Newton stated three laws. Today, our entire world is based on those laws. ------ Besides, the question is not about which is harder. It asks who contributed most to the world. Almost everything Edison made has been replaced by new technology. And guess what, those technologies are based on what Einstein did. Edison would have won if the question was: who contributed to the world the most DURING their lifetime? |
| Re: Between Albert Einstein And Thomas Edison Who Contributed More To The World? by herald9: 3:49pm On Sep 04, 2016 |
Teempakguy:I asked which is more outstanding, not which is harder. And I asked because it seems Edison was more of a technologist than a theorist. To the best of my knowledge, laws guiding a particular phenomena have always been there, it's just left for a curious, inquisitive mind to discover it by paying special attention to patterns and details. Newton discovered gravity didn't mean gravity didn't exist until then. Therefore theories are just insight into the mechanism of a phenomenon, which sometimes are not 100% correct until you try to apply them, that's when you discover the errors and hence modify the theories. Application involves more brainwork, as it entails testing and pulling together of related resources. Which sometimes takes years of dedication, testing and modifications. Anyone can be a theorist, but same can't be said of technologists. But I'm not supporting anyone per se, the theorist and technologists both work in tandem for the common good. This will make for a good debate. |

| Re: Between Albert Einstein And Thomas Edison Who Contributed More To The World? by Nobody: 4:34pm On Sep 04, 2016 |
herald9:i thought you were up for a debate? Anyway, in matters of outstanding, Einstein wins again. You should see The math involved in relativity. 90% of the world's population cannot understand it. You should study it. The punchline is crazy brilliant. Meanwhile Edison's inventions are pretty straightforward. And even then, he stole most of those ideas. On electricity, Edison almost ruined the world by insisting on DC current as opposed to the better AC. Thank God no one listened. |

hUmaneOne:I decided to overlook the baseless rant, contained in this particular post of yours and concentrate on this question of yours, "what have I contributed to humanity?" Well, since you believe that everybody on nairaland is a numbskull like you, I decided to speak out on behalf of other seasoned scientist in the house. I have 6 foreign publications and 14 local publications, I am currently working on the rate of cation-anion exchange in the soil with respect to charges in the atmosphere, the possibilities and promises this research portends are endless. Ok, now it's your turn. Tell us your contributions to humanity? ![]() |
| Re: Between Albert Einstein And Thomas Edison Who Contributed More To The World? by hUmaneOne: 8:42pm On Sep 04, 2016 |
CzarChris:I was wrong for that line tho..I apologise. But still Give me your proof, and stop making mouth up and down.nor be only 6 foreign publications, maybe your father is Buhari too. You know little about research else you'd have known you cannot have access to journals anyhow except you're an academic and even at that, most researchers in Nigeria do only retrospective studies which are useless to mankind but good for being professors.. Mind you I'm in the academia as well and I've applied for publications in BMJ and the Lancet (google them) so I can relate |
| Re: Between Albert Einstein And Thomas Edison Who Contributed More To The World? by CzarChris(m): 9:42pm On Sep 04, 2016 |
hUmaneOne:I am not only in the academia, also I run a thriving consultancy company. I pity the poor souls who are unfortunate enough to be studying under you, you sound so petty. I'm not here to banter words with you on who or what my late father was, I made no such referral in my earlier post, neither am going to feed your debased imaginations on the merit or otherwise of my claims, I will like to keep my anonymity as it is on nairaland. Simply grow up and tell nairalanders. What are your contributions to humanity? |
| Re: Between Albert Einstein And Thomas Edison Who Contributed More To The World? by hUmaneOne: 9:53pm On Sep 04, 2016 |
CzarChris:You are more daft than I thought. When I made that statement maybe your father is Buhari too.I was sarcastically calling you a liar and an empty boaster. You don't still get it? What are your contributions to humanityIn my line of duty,I save more lives in a day in the theatre, than you could ever save in a lifetime.whether with your research or with your money. Even educating you is a pain..I'm off.I quit your daft future comebacks.. Claiming warri, yet you're not smart.not my warri abeg. |
