I think the father of the boy should cover his head in shame because this afront is highly unbecoming in that part of the world..but since he failed to take care of his children as a father,he has no moral right to the remains of the deceased .RIP bros.

This took me back to memory lane. I was born and raised, baptized, and confirmed Catholic. I even went to a junior seminary.

My younger brother died in an accident some years back and we had to inter him. To my utter consternation the requirements for his burial were so steep and apparently never ending.

No one seemed to care about the grief of the family at this time. Items like baptismal card, parish card and a number of documents and receipts were required. It was so sad. This boy died suddenly and yet we had to provide these items.

At some point I decided to hire a protestant church to officiate but my parents ts objected. I had to use my connections in securing bogey documents from my classmate who is a parish priest in a neighbouring diocese just to ensure that my parents were relieved.

To add insult to injury, I had to buy diesel for the church Generator, settle the priest, choir, catchiest and church wardens but to mention a few.

That was the very last time I entered a Catholic church or indeed any other church. This stance will never change.

At a point my elder brother became fed up with the whole situation that he wanted to invite another denomination to pray so as to lay my brother to test, but my Mama refuse saying it must be Catholic Church cos my brother was born and baptised in her. My elder brother spent not less than 100k just to clear the supposed bill before the priest came. After that day my brother refused going to Catholic Church. Though my mom is still strong in her.

They either knew d senator, d dead son or a family member. i recently witness a marriage ceremony wit a huge number of priest and d couples were poor, they just happen to know a lot of priest.

Your dad wasn't a youth leaving outside Nigeria.
Your dad probably belongs to CMO and they don't always have much to pay for and he pays as at when needed so there wasn't any extra amount to pay.
To cap it all your dad was up to date in the church before he died. So that's why you weren't billed at the church. Sorry. Your grandfather.

dats why the father kept insisting nobody told him of his sons death, it was only the second son who informed him and dat is gross misconduct on the part of stella.

That's the case, the priest himself does not collect a dime from people, but he acts depending on the information presented to him by the financial secretary of the said organization (CWO, CMO, CYON, CGO. etc)
If the said person tells him (the priest) that the dead did not complete his supposed clearance (which is tantamount to not being worthy of a priest presence) the priest would not show up but will send the cathechist instead.
As to your grand father, what I meant by being up to date does not really imply to his regular presence in church, in fact "don't go to church on Sundays but make sure your money is seen when needed" (I hope you understand my point now)?

Is that the tradition in Igboland? If that was the case why did the deceased not drop his fathers name? The mother should have simply removed the Etoromi from his son's name and claim Uduah. Futhermore the junior brother and sister that bears the name Etoromi (all children Stella Oduah had for Lt Col. Etoromi) should be made to drop the name henceforth and claim Uduah patrilineage. I hope that tomorrow if they want to claim a traditional title or political office, you will not throw their father's root at their face.

I know churches that insist on dues. but the priest in my village didnt, my grandad wasnt paying any dues because he was wit u and when he died no one asked.

but even in parishes that insist on dues the priest doesnt deny a catholic burial or send d catechist because of dues.

It all boils down to my first point, maybe your Parish priest doesn't do that but mine does.
