Episode 3

Shindara stepped out of the Military camp. She flagged down a Bike and boarded it to her aunty's place.

Henry woke up feeling tired. He wondered what the time was. It was still 5 in the morning. He was so dizzy. He kicked off his blanket and strolled into his kitchen. He heard some loud music coming from a section of his house and wondered who would be making so much noise.

He drank his water and climbed upstairs to this little cousins room.

' That boy is up to mischief again' He thought as he held onto the door knob.

He turned the door knob, pushed the door open slowly and poked his head into the room. He then knew that it was the walls that actually sucked in the noise that he could only hear it mildly from outside, but inside! the noise was louder than in a studio.

''Hey!!! Tobi! Hey!!!!'' Henry screamed. The teenage boy didn't hear and kept dancing away in his room.

Suddenly, the music stopped. Tony turned slowly to find Henry holding up the plug for his DVD player. He sighed and mumbled some things.

'' It's 5 in the morning and you're making so much noise! Don't your ears hurt you?'' Henry was visibly angry.

''I told you I didn't want to leave Ogun state but you forced me here to this dry Kaduna'' Tony wiped away the beads of sweat forming on his head.

''What does that have to do with the noise?'' Henry asked still trying to understand what Tony said.

''It has everything Uncle. You're always so distant and most times I have no one to talk to. Music is the only way I keep myself sane'' Tony sat on the edge of his bed with his head hanging low.

Henry realised where Tony was driving at. Truthfully, he hadn't been spending time with his cousin. The guy was just 13, had no siblings and lost his parents to some domestic violence. In the real sense, he was alone and the only family he had was Henry.

'' Tony. I've been so distant because of my job.... The best is....''

''That's what you always say, the best is yet to come, when will it come? It's not your job, its what happened 13yrss ago. If I don't have a father, can'y you be the father I need Uncle Henry?'' Tonyturned his face aside to his a tear.

Henry came and sat by the bed the bed. Tony stoood up as soon as Henry sat, he grabbed his sweater and bolted out of the room.

'Emotions! Why did God create us with emotions!''

Henry sighed and decided it was best to let the 13yr old be alone. Now he was feeling guilt and he hated it.

''Ah, omo mi. Isn't it too early now?'' Sindara's aunt welcomed Shindara into her duplex.

'Good morning ma... I'm sorry I came early. If I do not come now, I don't know when I'll have the time next.''

''Oluwashindara, are you sure you can cope with this military stuff now..'' Sindara's aunt urged Shindara to have her seat

''Yes I can ma.''

''You know this wierd dream we've been having started when you joing the army''

''I know. That doesn't mean the army is responsible for my nightmares na Aunty Teni''

''I'm not saying that. It's just that I was never in support of you joining the army. I wonder why your father agreed to it. Can't you be like your Twin sister who's a designer.....''

'Ha, the dreaded lecture again. How long will this one last now?' Shindara thought. Aunty Teni's words just bounced off her.

'' Shindara, are you listening?'' Aunty Teni snapped her fingers in Shindara's face.

'' ma?'' Shindara said absentmindedly.

Aunty Teni eyes her again and folded her hands like she was tired.

'This girl is still daydreaming, hope they won't kill this smallie in the military now' Aunty Teni thought.

''I said, Find time to come here on saturday so we'll go see someone who can help. You had better hurry back to your camp now.''

''But, I wont have time to...'' Shindara grumbled as her aunt pushed her out of the house.

''No Buts! Come on Saturday! Good morning!'' Shindara's aunt pushed her out and locked the door.

''she doesn't know she's old. See the way she's pushing me yet i mustn't push back now or else she'll faint.'' Shindara grumbled.

''I heard that!'' Her aunty chorused from inside the house.

Shindara borded another bike to the camp.

she was almost turning into her hostel when she saw a figure cuddled up in a corner of her hostel varandah it was a small figure and obviously wasn't an NDA student or a recruit.. She stood there wondering what to do. He shouldn't be here, not in front of the female hostel.

She walked close to the cuddling boy and she saw him shrink in fear of her. She stopped.

''Hi there'' She whispered

No reply.

''Hello''

No reply again.

''what's wrong with you boy?''

The boy looked up. But his hoodie covered his face and even the poor light of that morning wasn't helping her make out what his face looked like. He was sniffing. He had been crying.

Shindara was touched. She sat by him in the dark and curled up herself too just like him.

''If it helps, I know a place where toys are sold'' She said jokingly. She heard the boy giggle.

''Why would I wan't a toy?'' He replied.

'Ha, finally, some progress.' Shindara rejoiced inside herself.

''I don't know.. Maybe because you'll be needing some company'' She replied.

She heard the boy laugh ''Well, that's just what I need. Company''

''I hope you know what company I mean.... I don't mean a working place..''

''are you kidding me?''

''Maybe''

There was an awkward silence between them. Shindara thought the silence was healthy.

''I'm Oluwashindara'' she introduced herself.

'' I'm Tony'' The boy replied.

yeah... I made a mistake... I read Fiyah's story before writing that episode so I mixed Tobi's name from there here.... How's your health?

Henry got prepared for work that morning and was stepping out by 7a.m. He had left a note for Tony pertaining to how he'd be gone for some days for a task assigned to him.

He wasn't happy he'd be leaving. Sometimes, most times, the army didn't give space and time for him to spend quality time with Tony and He knew Tony sure would be dissapointed.. That's if Tony wasn't used to it already.

He locked the door and turned to his garage then her saw Tony approaching the quaters with one slender figure.

''Tony. Are you sure this is where you uncle stays?'' Shindara asked again for the fifth time.

Tony scoffed at her. ''yes. That appartment there'' Tony pointed to a bungalow not far away.

Shindara wanted to turn back and leave... She was in the officials quaters/zone and didn't know if it was wise to around the place muchless with a boy who she isn't sure has an uncle there.

''What position does you uncle hold?''

''He's a luitenant General.''

'Oh Boy! A luitenant general.'

''Are you scared?'' Tony asked as he could feel her grip on his hand vibrating.

''No... Not at all. Why would I?'' Shindara blabbed. She knew she was scared. She was hoping it wasn't the goat. That guy scared hell out of her.

''There he is.'' Tony pointed to a man locking the door.

''Alright Tony. Nice meeting you.'' Shindara left his hands and turned to walk away. She could feel the luitenants gaze on her.

''won't you say hello?'' Tony probed.

''Nah. I'm late for a class'' She took a step away and heard the man call out to her.

''Hold it right there sergeant'' Henry ordered.
Shindara froze. She turned slowly to face the goat himself.

'Badluck early in the morning. Great'

Henry swaggered close to shindara who was standing like a pole. Tony was desperately trying to make eye contact with him to tell him to spare the poor girl.

Henry eyed Shindara. She was of average height. Light skinned and had all ber female attributes in moderate size. Her lips were pink and cute. Her jaws were sharp and it contrasted greatly with her cheekbones. He was taller than her by far but he admired her. He found himself drooling for sometime and he quickly pulled himself together.

''You're Shindara, right?'' He asked.

''Yes sir'' Shindara kept looking down. Afraid to look at his face.

''Tony'' Henry faced The teenager. ''Don't you have school to attend?''

Tony bolted into the house after retrieving the spare key from a flower vase by the door.

''So, Are you heading to the class?'' Henry asked.

''Errrr.. No sir, I'm not. I'm not dressed as neccessary sir''

''Because of Tony right?'' Shindara nodded slowly. ''So, you'll be late to the class... As usual''

'Doesn't he get it? I will be late because of your nephew, oversized goat'

''no. I'll make it there in time since its at 7:30 sir'' She replied.

Other officials were driving out of their houses and were looking at them. A particular official drove by them and gave Henry a thumbs up with a naughty smile and wink. Shindara wanted to tell them badly that she hated him.

''Let me drop you off at your quaters then'' Henry said and dipped his key into the lock of his G-wagon.

''It's not neccessary sir, I can just....''

'' Sergeant Shindara.... Get in'' Henry shut her up. She quietly got into the car playing nervously with her fingers.

''Oya. Tell me! What are you not telling me?'' Diana pressed Shindara against a wall playfully.

''About what jor.. Don't ruffle my clothes abeg'' Shindara pushed Diana away and adjusted her cloth.

''You and Luitenant Henry. Everyone saw you guys this morning'' Diana replied.

''Did you see me smilling? Or shinning my thirty-two with him. It was obvious I was under pressure. The aura around him is so thick ehn'' Shindara waved her hand into the air trying to wave the thought of Henry away.

''He seemed to enjoy it though.'' Diana put in.

''Na you know. You'll see everything. You should be working with linda Ikeji'' Shindara giggled along with Diana.

They saw a soldier walking up to them cooly and his gaze told them he was coming to meet them. They pretended like they didn't see him and continued walking although they were no more talking.

''Hi ladies'' The soldier greeted as he stretched out his hand to handshake both of the ladies.

Shindara recognised him. He was the official who winked at Henry that morning. Could it be that Henry sent him to her?

'noo, That goat is cooler than that' She thought. She shook his hands.

''I'm Danladi and you are?'' Danladi asked Shindara. Diana had taken the hint that he was not after her so she stepped away from the duo pretending to be busy with her phone.

Shindara sized up this Danladi of a guy. He was light skinned. Had gap tooth and pointed nose. And He had blue eyes.. Something she had seen in only the white men she had come in contact with. He was tall with a built structure. And he had several badges tagged to his uniform.

'he must be an halfcaste' She thought 'and a very senior soldier'

''I'm Oluwashindara Sir'' She replied with a bright smile.

Danladi turned abruptly to look behind him trying to see who Shindara was addressing as 'sir'. He was trying to create a funny scene.

''Who are you calling a 'sir'? Me or your friend over there'' He pointed to Diana who was trying her possible best not to look their way but she was failing at it.

Shindara laughed hard and called Diana over.

''Diana, meet officer Danladi. Officer Danladi, Diana''

They both exchanged pleasantries and again, Diana slipped away.

''So, you called me officer this time. My name's Danladi. Repeat after me. Danladi'' Danladi protested.

Shindara laughed ''Okay.. This is wierd but... Okay sha Danladi''

Danladi clapped his hands with a smile.

''so, what's a girl like you doing in the army?'' Danladi asked, trying to build a conversation.

''Well, To serve my country and not die while doing it durh'' Shindara replied.

Danladi laughed. ''And what are the chances of you not dying.. You know, you'd survive even in the frontline of a battle ground.''

''How?'' Shindara asked baffled.

'' Look at it this way... I'm one of the enemies soldiers. I pick up my bazouka to shoot at the opposite camp and then I notice one very beautiful female soldier in the opposite camp. Surely I'd drop my bazouka, grab my walkie talkie and say ''Terminate operation. Future wife spotted in the enemies camp. Abort mission! Retreat to the base'' '' Danladi Joked.

Shindara doubled up with laughter. She laughed so hard that she had to hold Danladis hand for support.

''Oh come on, you're flattering me''

''No I'm not. Any sane man would do that''

''Definitely, some soldiers will still carry on with the operation.'' Shindara said 'for example, the goat' She thought.

''Look there's Henry coming. We have something to discuss. We won't take long. Can you wait?'' Danladi asked Shindara as Henry approached them.

''sure'' Shindara replied.

She had mixed feelings. Henry was staring at her while he was coming. Danladi was also walking up to meet Henry but Henry just kept looking at her.

''Shindara! Look. Oga's wife is looking at you'' Diana spoke in whispers. She had slipped beside Shindara on noticing that Ogas wife was staring at Shindara with what seemed like hate.[/b]

Episode 2.

Lt. Henry climbed the little podium with all sense of purpose. His face was firm and strong. The morning sun was up and it added more brightness to the lightness of his skin. His pupils were pitch black and had that spark in it. A spark that seemed like he'd blow up in anger soon. His body, excatly what we call a macho mans kind of body. His uniform wrapped his frame up tightly and others would thing his muscles would rip his clothes off.

''Errm errm'' He cleared his throat. Every recruit shivered. Shindara had now completely dressed up and the only problem left for her was her wet hair.

''Good morning everyone'' Lt. Henry greeted with a firm voice.

''Morning Sir!'' The recruits replied.

''I'm luitenant General Henry Olarewaju. I will be one of your instructors from now henceforth. Therefore the only things I will be needing from you guys will be deligence and cooperation. Discipline will be dished out accordingly to anyone who does wrong. Starting from now. You there!'' He pointed to Shindara at the end of the line. Her heart jumped into her mouth. She turned her head to look at him fully with a look like '' Are you calling me sir?''.

She stepped out of the line and faced him with a salute. ''Sir''

''I want seventy counts of frog jumps from you for coming late!'' Lt. Henry said cooly and turned to continue addressing the others.

'Let this be a dream please' Shindara begged. She could see some of her colleagues trying to hide their amusement at her predicament. She shot a viscious angry glare at the new demon in the camp and he turned his gaze to meet hers. Her frown vanished Immediately and she began the punishment.

Lt. Henry had a crooked little smile at the corner of his mouth. He turned again to address the recruits.

''Hey mama!'' Diana hailed as she carried her food towards Shindara who was devouring her food at a table in the cafeteria.

''Hi.'' Shindara replied. ''want to join me?''

''No! I wanted to walk into this wall with my food, that's why I came to this corner'' Diana dropped her tray of food on the table for four and sat. She uncovered the bottled water and drank its contents to half.

''See, If you're here for another wahala just vanish. I have enough things to worry about now'' Shindara dug her knife into her food repeatedly.

Diana grinned knowingly ''And by things you mean ''Mr Mancho'' abi?'' Diana laughed hard. ''cool it sweetheart, he's a man afterall, he'll like the machendise''

''Which yeye machendise! He better not even try any funny stuff with me. All I feel like doing now is to strangle the goat out of him'' Shindara puffed.

Diana giggled ''Just don't kill that Hunk for the girls that haven't gotten on his bad side''

''Hunk? That one that looks like Hitler!'' Shindara scoffed ''spare me please''

Diana brought her head closer to Shindara ears and whispered ''I think he likes you! And I think Oga's wife like him too''

'Of all people to like me! It's now one goat that has no iota of a gentleman in him. It's not even possible' Shindara thought

''Please, I'm his first culprit and I've earned the position of a bad soldier to him'' She replied ''But, Ogas wife? Gist me please''

''We saw her staring lustfully at him this morning. You know the way we bite our fingers in a sexy way na, that was what she did when he looked her way'' Diana spoke like a recorder.

'I don't bite my hand like that. Why would I?'

''He just gave her that cold stare and walked into his office. You needed to see the look on her face!'' Diana giggled.

'' You mean General Okafors wife likes that Goat.'' Shindara smilled cunningly ''If the General finds out''

''Lt. Henry will be sent back now, immediately'' Diana replied.

''Are you thinking what I'm thinking?'' Shindara winked at Diana. Diana folded her hands and raised her eyebrows up.

Shindara wanted to plot a way for the General to find out.

''Don't even think of it'' Diana eyed her and scooped more rice into her mouth. Diana almost coughed out the rice in her mouth when she saw someone approaching them behind Shindara. The Goat himself and he was coming with his tray of food.

''What's wrong with you?? Are you okay? You look like you've swallowed a bone.'' Shindara attended to Diana who was holding onto her neck with red eyes. Diana swallowed the rice in her mouth and composed herself nervously on the chair. Sindara still hadn't seen Lt. Henry coming behind her and still continued piercing her food here and there with her knife.

''Erm erm!'' Shindara heard someone clear his voice behind her. She turned to see who it was and before she knew it, she had said something stupid.

''Oh Goat......'' She quickly turned her face back to her food and swallowed saliva. ''Goats eat leaf you know'' She spoke to Diana as if that was what she wanted to say.

Diana stood up to salute and so did Shindara. Lt. Henry didn't reply but instead, he sat don on a vacant chair and began to eat. Diana gushed as she attempted to sit down when Shindara yanked her back to her full standing position.

''We'll excuse you sir!'' Shindara eyed Diana and picked up her tray to leave.

''You need not worry about that. Every table in the cafe has been occupied'' Lt. Henry spoke and raised up his face to look at Shindara. He was assuring her he wasn't wicked with those eyes of his.

'who are you trying to decieve with those innocent eyes? Yeye dey smell. It won't hurt to sit down by this goat sha' She thought.

She sat along with Diana and they ate in silence. Lt. Henry didn't finish his food.

''Good day Sergeants'' He picked up his tray and Left.

Shindara was beginning to have a second thought. Although he seemed cold, he was somehow calm and endearing. And those eyes! She could kill for them.

''Just look at him go'' Diana blushed as she stared at him dreamily.

''I know right?'' Shindara replied

Henry made his way out of the cafe and walked up into his white G-wagon parked nearby. He unlocked the car and got in. He switched on the Mp3 player and soft blues music started playing. He rolled down his windows and was about driving away when he heard a lady call him.

''Luitenant Henry!'' Ogas wife. The red haired American diva who married General Okafor two years ago. Their marriage had been the talk of the town. General Okafor, as ugly as he was surprised the young and agile men by his ability to win over a lady like this.

''Hello ma'am'' Henry smilled and rested his elbow on the window frame.

'Here comes trouble' He thought.

''Hi! How are you? You eat here too?'' The Oyinbo woman chorused as if she was singing. She was smilling and flashing her white sparkling teeth. Henry looked behind her and saw two of her body guards standing some metres behind her.

''This is the only Cafe in Wing A where one can find good food.'' Henry replied her with another fake smile.

''Yeah. True. Oh, where are my manners? I'm Trina by the way.''

''Okay, Madam Trina. I'll be on my way now'' Henry smiled again and made to switch his engine on.

''Oh poo. Don't be silly'' Trina laughed ''Just call me Trina. Do you know anything about Alkido Henry?'' She asked another question to hook him down.

''Alkido? I suppose so.'' Henry was no more smilling now. He was bored.

''Oh great. I've been looking for someone to teach me'' Trina pouted like a baby.

''Let me help'' Henry said. Trina's face lit up. ''Hey buddy!'' Henry Called out to one of her bodyguards.

''Sir!'' He replied.

''You do Alkido?'' Henry asked.

''Yes sir!''

''Good! Madam Trina here needs an instructor'' Henry smilled at Trina who was looking baffled. ''Good day Trina!'' Henry saluted and drove off.

'Let this be a dream please' Shindara begged. She could see some of her colleagues trying to hide their amusement at her predicament. She shot a viscious angry glare at the new demon in the camp and he turned his gaze to meet hers. Her frown vanished Immediately and she began the punishment.

Lt. Henry had a crooked little smile at the corner of his mouth. He turned again to address the recruits.

''Hey mama!'' Diana hailed as she carried her food towards Shindara who was devouring her food at a table in the cafeteria.

''Hi.'' Shindara replied. ''want to join me?''

''No! I wanted to walk into this wall with my food, that's why I came to this corner'' Diana dropped her tray of food on the table for four and sat. She uncovered the bottled water and drank its contents to half.

''See, If you're here for another wahala just vanish. I have enough things to worry about now'' Shindara dug her knife into her food repeatedly.

Diana grinned knowingly ''And by things you mean ''Mr Mancho'' abi?'' Diana laughed hard. ''cool it sweetheart, he's a man afterall, he'll like the machendise''

''Which yeye machendise! He better not even try any funny stuff with me. All I feel like doing now is to strangle the goat out of him'' Shindara puffed.

Diana giggled ''Just don't kill that Hunk for the girls that haven't gotten on his bad side''

''Hunk? That one that looks like Hitler!'' Shindara scoffed ''spare me please''

Diana brought her head closer to Shindara ears and whispered ''I think he likes you! And I think Oga's wife like him too''

'Of all people to like me! It's now one goat that has no iota of a gentleman in him. It's not even possible' Shindara thought

''Please, I'm his first culprit and I've earned the position of a bad soldier to him'' She replied ''But, Ogas wife? Gist me please''

''We saw her staring lustfully at him this morning. You know the way we bite our fingers in a sexy way na, that was what she did when he looked her way'' Diana spoke like a recorder.

'I don't bite my hand like that. Why would I?'

''He just gave her that cold stare and walked into his office. You needed to see the look on her face!'' Diana giggled.

'' You mean General Okafors wife likes that Goat.'' Shindara smilled cunningly ''If the General finds out''

''Lt. Henry will be sent back now, immediately'' Diana replied.

''Are you thinking what I'm thinking?'' Shindara winked at Diana. Diana folded her hands and raised her eyebrows up.

Shindara wanted to plot a way for the General to find out.

''Don't even think of it'' Diana eyed her and scooped more rice into her mouth. Diana almost coughed out the rice in her mouth when she saw someone approaching them behind Shindara. The Goat himself and he was coming with his tray of food.

''What's wrong with you?? Are you okay? You look like you've swallowed a bone.'' Shindara attended to Diana who was holding onto her neck with red eyes. Diana swallowed the rice in her mouth and composed herself nervously on the chair. Sindara still hadn't seen Lt. Henry coming behind her and still continued piercing her food here and there with her knife.

''Erm erm!'' Shindara heard someone clear his voice behind her. She turned to see who it was and before she knew it, she had said something stupid.

''Oh Goat......'' She quickly turned her face back to her food and swallowed saliva. ''Goats eat leaf you know'' She spoke to Diana as if that was what she wanted to say.

Diana stood up to salute and so did Shindara. Lt. Henry didn't reply but instead, he sat don on a vacant chair and began to eat. Diana gushed as she attempted to sit down when Shindara yanked her back to her full standing position.

''We'll excuse you sir!'' Shindara eyed Diana and picked up her tray to leave.

''You need not worry about that. Every table in the cafe has been occupied'' Lt. Henry spoke and raised up his face to look at Shindara. He was assuring her he wasn't wicked with those eyes of his.

'who are you trying to decieve with those innocent eyes? Yeye dey smell. It won't hurt to sit down by this goat sha' She thought.

She sat along with Diana and they ate in silence. Lt. Henry didn't finish his food.

''Good day Sergeants'' He picked up his tray and Left.

Shindara was beginning to have a second thought. Although he seemed cold, he was somehow calm and endearing. And those eyes! She could kill for them.

''Just look at him go'' Diana blushed as she stared at him dreamily.

''I know right?'' Shindara replied

Henry made his way out of the cafe and walked up into his white G-wagon parked nearby. He unlocked the car and got in. He switched on the Mp3 player and soft blues music started playing. He rolled down his windows and was about driving away when he heard a lady call him.

''Luitenant Henry!'' Ogas wife. The red haired American diva who married General Okafor two years ago. Their marriage had been the talk of the town. General Okafor, as ugly as he was surprised the young and agile men by his ability to win over a lady like this.

''Hello ma'am'' Henry smilled and rested his elbow on the window frame.

'Here comes trouble' He thought.

''Hi! How are you? You eat here too?'' The Oyinbo woman chorused as if she was singing. She was smilling and flashing her white sparkling teeth. Henry looked behind her and saw two of her body guards standing some metres behind her.

''This is the only Cafe in Wing A where one can find good food.'' Henry replied her with another fake smile.

''Yeah. True. Oh, where are my manners? I'm Trina by the way.''

''Okay, Madam Trina. I'll be on my way now'' Henry smiled again and made to switch his engine on.

''Oh poo. Don't be silly'' Trina laughed ''Just call me Trina. Do you know anything about Alkido Henry?'' She asked another question to hook him down.

''Alkido? I suppose so.'' Henry was no more smilling now. He was bored.

''Oh great. I've been looking for someone to teach me'' Trina pouted like a baby.

''Let me help'' Henry said. Trina's face lit up. ''Hey buddy!'' Henry Called out to one of her bodyguards.

''Sir!'' He replied.

''You do Alkido?'' Henry asked.

''Yes sir!''

''Good! Madam Trina here needs an instructor'' Henry smilled at Trina who was looking baffled. ''Good day Trina!'' Henry saluted and drove off.

Look at it this way... I'm one of the enemies soldiers. I pick up my bazouka to shoot at the opposite camp and then I notice one very beautiful female soldier in the opposite camp. Surely I'd drop my bazouka, grab my walkie talkie and say ''Terminate operation. Future wife spotted in the enemies camp. Abort mission! Retreat to the base'' '' Danladi Joked.
