So, I bought this brand new, fully unlocked BlackBerry 9930 from Amazon and it still has 'Activation required ' on the screen which virtual doesn't allow me to do anything meaningful on the phone.
Please can anyone help proffer solution to this?

Which network are you using with It? I know for a fact that Etisalat and glo lines are not compatible with 9930. Try using it with an MTN or airtel line.

Ok good, note that the 9900 variant of bold 5 works with all networks while 9930 (Verizon or Sprint) cannot work with Etisalat or glo networks. Enjoy your device.
