PART 2 The third tip to deal with postpartum belly and body is the one we would spend most time on. Dieting! We are more of what we eat than anything else. Now we are not referring to an expensive, cut throat, uncomfortable, tasteless diet which most people detest. We are referring to a diet that is healthy, complete and most importantly, actually sits well with you if you are breastfeeding. Combine these dieting tips with your postpartum belt and you'll be amazed at the results. Tip 1: Eat lesser portions of food. If you eat a full plate of food, make it half of that size. Don’t worry that you would feel like you are starving. Within a short time, you would get used to it. You can augment this by eating healthy in between meals. Six small sized healthy meals are better than three heavy meals. Tip 2: Any meal you eat should not make you feel full. This stretches your stomach muscles and gradually, your stomach and entire tummy expands to accommodate that size of food. When this happens, your default stomach size would be big. So try to eat well but not to the point of being full. Tip 3: Don’t eat again after 6pm each day, try to have your last meal by 6pm at most. Late night foods make one fat. If you are hungry, take a cup of hot/warm tea. Not a jar/jug of tea which many of us are used to. A cup will do. Or if possible, more vegetables. The idea is to have vegetables in your body early or late at night because that is when most internal body processes take place i.e. when we are least active. This is the time fat forms and this is the best time to attack them too. What these vegetables do is that they release the essential vitamins and minerals our body need in raw form and so when our body is looking for what to convert into energy, all it would see are these essential vitamins and minerals in their purest forms. So taking them early in the morning before breakfast and late at night after dinner makes them readily available and their content would not be diluted or affected by the other food we take. Tip 4: Cut off unhealthy sugar completely. Especially sugar from minerals, soft drinks and packed juices. They make the stomach to bloat and swell. The damage sugar from these sources do to a woman’s body can’t be quantified. So let’s just not even go there or else we would veer off. Instead, look for other healthy sources of sugar, such as honey. Tip 5: Fatty foods and starchy foods should be at the minimal. Let your diet be mainly fruits, nuts, vegetables, beans and whole grains like wheat, maize etc. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t eat normal everyday meals but as long as you have the capacity to control it, the main content should be these items listed. To be continued... #Mothersbond 16 Likes 8 Shares |

Ijelex: Pele dear i feel your pain! What i do when my normal tomato stew tires me..... I go local! Palm oil, crayfish, dried smoked shrimps... smoked fish, bonga... the werks. Ditch the tomatoes if you can. Sometimes i use just onions and peppers ( tatase and atarodo). If using tomatoes boil it first to get out most of the water. Blend the heads of the smoked shrimps with your onion, pepper or tomato mix. I use half palm oil and half vegetable oil. (Dont judge! in my mind it is healthier ) Bleach the palm oil as well as you can first. Before you add your veg oil. Add sliced onions, fry, add all your smoked and dried fishy - shrimpy condiments. Add your pepper mix. ..... fry! Season to your liking. Add your meat. And let simmer..... till you are satisfied with the appearance. Your life will never remain the same....... Some people will say add your half cooked meat to the tomatoes whilsts boiling to let the two of them mingle well. I havent tried this yet but it is on my to do list. Modification: This stew goes with EVERYTHING! from agege bread, to rice, to yam! You can even eat stew and garri sef! Also this type of stew is very easy to "upgrade" with vegetables. Just steam your ugwu, spinach or whatever seperately first. Squeeze out as much liquid as you can and add to the stew, add some more seasoning and you have your e-be-like-eforiro-vegetable sauce... Dont mind me... i like food. Warning: you are liable to dislike your normal stew after you have gone local! Alphahandmaiden does not take any responsibility for any changes in your culinary preferences..... lol! Oya! go and unleash your inner iya sikira! 23 Likes 12 Shares |

My dear, for the 1st 3 months wen breast feeding is active, you need evry energy giving food o! Biko, don't diet when breast feeding! Strong thing never do you b4 cos of food. I'm speaking frm experience. When baby hs stabilised eating routine, you can then think of doin anytin. 22 Likes |

Now what I do is drink water or orange juice at night . And fortunately I have dropped all but 1kg of my pregnancy weight at 3 and half weeks post partum due to breastfeeding .. feddy27:The culprit of your almost fainting might have been thirst/ dehydration. Breastfeeding dehydrates the body fast so drinking lots of water would help. You know weight watchers would tell you that when you are 'hungry' drink water....then if the hunger persists then you are truly hungry. Cos our brain doesn't really differentiate hunger from thirst. 2 Likes 1 Share |

feddy27: My dear, its very very possible to diet when breastfeeding. Like i said, i was sharing those info from mothersbond because they are working for me. Eat well during the day. Have your last full meal by 6pm. Stick to veggies and take tea from 6pm if you feel hungry and you'll be fine. I can't be loading eba into my system at night because i'm breastfeeding o. If its too difficult to do, you can skip that tip till ure done breastfeeding and try other tips 5 Likes 2 Shares |

sugah: I always had water or juice next to me wheneva I was breastfeeding, so we ruled out dehydration cos I was always drinking water too. Wat I suspected was dat I ate less than my body was burning hence the dizzy feeling. Wen I improved on my feeding habit, it stopped. Esp the first 3 months wen u re still trying to get a hang of breastfeeding, latching properly, little or no sleep; you then add diet on top! I hear but not for me 1 Like |
