He can still make 2.1 irrespective of any institution. My intimate friend graduated from the said OAU and made second class upper division with a starting GPA of 1.82 in the department of Physics Engineering, fast forward to 200l he is above 4.2 till final year, in the end he makes 3.64.

guy u cam make first class if u put in the extra work ,who said u can't ? when I am a living example first semester year one had 3 co 2a and 2c second semester I had 5As and 2Bs and I have never look back what happen was I take it for granted that first semester never knew they mean business with me but after that I make a mad decision like u are about to make now to extra sit up and I never look back since then

Continue with your education. In most schools 100lvl GP accounts for just 10% of your total CGPA. Am very sure that if you are hardworking, you should graduate with a 2.1

Hello Nairalanders, I'm a 100lvl Student in a University based in the North,I have suffered so much to get admission which I value so greatly...God so good I was given a course I grew to like, but the school unfortunately released our supplementary list about 4 months after the 1st list was released so I came only to find out exams was just few weeks away, I resumed late my parents had to sweat out my fees, I wrote all de exams but I didn't know anything in some my prerequisite... I studied hard but only for me to find a CGP of 1.65 last semester (with 3 CO's, one due to a not registered course) , I'm ready to work hard come this 200h lvl but my question is Should I restart 100 lvl or can I still graduate with a 2nd class upper that I seek despite this poor performance in 100lvl.

You can come out with a second class upper.Aim to make at least a 4.0 Every other semester till u graduate.Trust me,I know what I am saying

U aint undertanding what this dudes saying. U could have 1.65 in 100l. Then puttin work in 200l and have 5.0, 300l 5.0. Its not CGPA, its just the G.p for that section which will automatically boost you up. One 2.0 girl in ma dept here had 5.0 last section and now In 2.1 .. Bless

Option one:

Speaking from experience, I'll advice you start over.
I as an individual had a similar experience. After about 3years in a particular course which I actually did love, I cumulated a CGPA of 2.73 (as at 3rd year, for a 5year programme). I never wanted a 2'2 and from all indications, that was where my final CGPA was tending to plus my extra year due to a failed prerequisite.
I had to change my course of study through the change of degree programme which was advertised by the school. I bought the form, applied in a new department and started from year one. I'm now in final year with a current CGPA way above 4.5 on a 5 point scale. It's not always about how far, but how well.
Making the BEST out of every discipline is key rather than settling for mediocrity in the name of "paper qualifications doesn't guarantee you success". Such myth... The likes of Okonjo-Iweala, Charles Soludo, were not mediocres in there field of study.

In summary, I'll strongly advice you start over if among your Carry overs there is a prerequisite which earns you an extra year. You've got nothing to loose. You'd be happy with your self on the long run.

Option two:

If for financial reasons you feel you can't begin again, then you know you have to work extra hard.
You have to clear up the carry overs ASAP with nothing less than a B grade. And every other course you would take in subsequent semesters.
I know of a friend who got admitted to study Microbiology but spent his first year preparing for and writing Jamb in search of Medicine. He never got the medicine. His first semester results were jeopardised and he had 1.86 as cumulative after first year.
I won't state his subsequent GPA (which he showed to me) here to avoid being called "Lai" but he graduated from microbiology in later years with a very high 2'1 (4.21 to be precise).


However, the choice is still yours, we can only advice.
Option one is as good as option two depending on the factors at your disposal.

Ask yourself this, how many has CGP epp? its good to come out with good grade but believe me it doesn't guarantee your success. Your skill and your brain is the only asset you have as long as you determine to succeed.

my brother go on with your studies and don't tie your life to GPA.... enjoy life while you're still here and know that your destiny is your destiny irrespective of your GP. I advise you continue your 100L and work smarter (attend group discussions, tutorials, associate with only the best academically, etc)

My advice:

1. Look ahead. Calculate the minimum GP you need to achieve per semester to make a CGPA of 3.5 at the end of course.
2. Add 0.3 to that GP and aim to get this GP per semester.
3. Work hard to achieve the GP per semester but any semester you fail to achieve that GP, re-start from (1) above.
4. For your carry over courses, sort it out ASAP.
5. Make friends with your lecturers. Or at worst, do not get into their black book.
6. Pray for favour.
