According to insider while he was waiting for the imminent federal cabinet tsunami that could have drawn him closer to the seat of government (ministerial appointment), the former secretary to the Akpabio-led administration was hit below the belt with the appointment that takes him five steps down the ladder.

By hierarchy, Umana is to report to the Federal Controller of Trade and Investment in the Port Harcourt zonal headquarters who reports to the Director of Trade in the federal ministry who also passes to buck to the Permanent Secretary for onward transmission to the Honourable Minister of Trade and Investment.

Also, a source at the presidency hinted that his appointment was part of the undercurrent by Mr Rotimi Amaechi and the incoming Managing Director of NDDC Obong Nsima Ekere to push him out of the way, to pave the way for Mr Ekere’s (NDDC MD) sole control of APC in Akwa Ibom state

Niger Deltan appointments have never in anyway benefited the people of the region, instead it continue to impoverish the region. From Niger Delta Commission to Ministry of Niger Delta to the presidency (immediate past president was a Niger Deltan), at the end of it all, the people will still blame the federal government for their problems. Perhaps, the region needs foreign appointments for mission critical rescue.
