How do you reward people who are making effort to improve our standard of living by generating ideas and concepts?

For your information, the money USA budget for scientific research is more than the budget of ALL African countries put together. However, in Nigeria, N14,000,000 will be given to 2-Face for performing say during independence while N20,000 is given to professors.

The universities are the nigerian ivy leagues. If you are not a graduate of the mentioned Universities and u studied in nigeria then you are still a learner.

On who their certificate helps... we'll it's typical for us to say that sinc th aren't creating buzz through their education. But note that education has helped the world much more than entertainment has.

It is not about hating education. It is about hating the way Nigerians think. The problem is they think mostly based of their stomach. If it was a competition and it was announced in the beginning of the school year that a prize would be given to the best students it would be a different story entirely. But, since they aren't expected to receive gifts for graduating, you shouldn't complain about it. Why would you complain about a gift. Were you expecting it? If anyone is expecting a gift for graduating, then that person needs their heads examined. I remember back in my day, it was with pride we would receive plaques for doing well in school. Now, because of poverty, it is all about the money. And you wonder why the Nigerian society is money crazed and corrupt. I tire for una i swear.

See you are right educatsón needs to be valued more,but you cant compare a beauty pageant to awards for academic excellence,one ,the pageants rewards based on a more rigid analysis of more returns,the beauty pageant are for profit,and one away to get the best of candidatés for the pageant is the attractive prizes,award for education is either for CSR by private company or some sort of way of encouraging talents,but this is not the optimal way for people to value education,the best away is to know that your degree can give you capacity to capitalize on the opportunuity around you,those opportunuities should be the main driving force,so dont compare a beauty pageant to award for excellence,they are not the same category

Up till now you still more time arguing about prize instead of trying to understand the point people are trying to make here.

There are a lot of young men on the street who smoke marijuana and have nonchalant attitude towards education because Timaya is more respected in Nigeria than a Prof.

In the future, and even presently many youths who have the potential to become great engineers are no longer interested in Education because MTN would rather use P-Square to advertise their products and pay him millions instead of Professor of Electrical Engineer.

Diamond bank would prefer Mikel to renowned Prof. in banking and pay him millions.

In developed country, education is their first priority.

The man who developed PCR (Scientist Mullis) was rewarded with $10,000 and his idea was sold for $300,000,000.

Our own Prof. A. J Nok of the Biochemistry department of ABU, Zaria was rewarded by Germany with £6,000, Japan with ¥3,000,000 among others for his work in trypanosiomiasis.

How many academics have been encouraged by Nigerian Govt and private organizations?

These guys spent Minimum of 4 years in school without constant light, food, hardship, sleepless nights. The best of them go 50k each.
Now, how do we use these scenerios to encourage the upcoming kids to take school serious?

You cannot teach a child how to farm and after he has learnt excellently well, you then issue him paper (Certificate) that shows that he can farm.

And unfortunately and very unfortunately, you did not provide him with hoe, cutlass, seeds and fertile land; and yet you expect him to succeed and feed the nation.
