I advice go to court and resolve the matter fast. Also do it well and make sure you use this guys matter to teach the others. That is what we did, when we faced this particular problem. We used some scapegoats to teach the others how to behave and now, they are following without any instructions or arguments.

Your tenants are right and they know the law judging from thier request. Since you sold the property....you should have informed your tenants that the property has been sold.... And possibly introduce them to the new owner.... At this point if the owner doesn't want them staying there anymore... A quit notice is served.

If their remaining tenancy duration is more than 3months then u ask them not to renew.
If it's less than 3 months then u give a 3 months notice.

Why not reach a concrete agreement with them where they will all sign that after the 3 month they will leave...

If you decide to quit them, they would still stay 6 month and u will also spend extra...
Yes the 6 month they spent, u can still get ur rent but if the tenants re people like me, ur name nah Joseph of Aramantia cous i will frustrate you..

What u should do next time is agree on a duration 1yr? 2yr? Then inside the agreement u state that 3/4months to the expiration of the agreed duration the tenant shall make known his INTENTION TO RENEW OR NOT,

Upon signal to renew the new rent shall be paid on/b4 1month after the expiration of the rent agreement failure to do so the landlord has the right to repossess his property.


That is why rents are expensive now sha cos landlords have started adding lawyers and agents to the mix.
I don't knw what u can do right now o, BUT i'm just telling u how to avoid a repeat...

Forget the law a solid rent agreement puts the landlord in control.

Hi everyone i sold my 2 plots of lands last year to build a house . so the issue now is that my 4 tenants rent have expired since last month. my junior brother informed them there house rent have expired the told him that i will have to give them 3 free months. that is what Nigeria law said unless i should them Quit Notice .It's very sad that a house i build with my hard earn money somebody will be telling me that he will live in my house for free. I want to know which step i have to take

That is there right, infact if they paid there rent year inadvance they should get 6months free. The problem is that Nigerians don't know they law. Op call a lawyer and he will tell u the same thing. Infact after the 3months they are still intitled too 3weeks then 3days be4 u can trow them out. Take them to court and the judge will ask u. Which planet u came from lol

It's not possible to live in my house for free. weather 3 months is close or not the must pay me my money. i build that house with my hard earn money . there's no law that will favour somebody not to pay his house rent. there rent have expired so the should be ready for me. since there's no law in Nigeria again. I will take law into my hand now. i will use them as example next time the will not play with anybody the see. the have pushed me to the wall

Reading your post just makes me laugh. You must have been lucky all your life that you have never encountered some RUGGED landlords. Your rent will not even expire before you pay the next one or move out sef. Anyways I want to believe you are not too informed on how stuffs like this works.

Not to raise money but they are telling me that is Nigeria law once you paid for one year rent you will get 3 months for free. I have 14 tenants in my house

I am a corper posted to cross river odukpani local government to be pecise approximately two weeks ago there was a comunal clash over night which put alot of us in danger and led to destruction of properties among this property my car was burnt and ever since i was asked to write a statement by the police and also the pictures where tag along with it and they told me they will get back to me ever since i hvent heard from them i dont know if anyone here can help me with a good human right lawyer down here cause this is really taking longer than expected and informationg getting to me now is this culprits has been arrested and am still yet to hear from both authorities the police or even my Local government inspector LGI
