During Goodluck Jonathan, every month when the governors went for the economic council meeting, the amount in the account kept dropping. If we asked about what happened to the money, the response we got was that the president approved for it to be spent.

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Nigeria’s former minister of finance said on Tuesday night that the $2 billion she was alleged to have withdrawn from Excess Crude Account without authorisation was used to pay for fuel subsidy on the instruction of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

She however said the issue was discussed at the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC), a statutory body which is chaired by the Minister of State for Finance in which all the states are represented.

The former Minister however said FAAC did not approve the withdrawal.
It will be recalled that Nigerian state governors had after the inauguration of the National Economic Council about two weeks ago accused Okonjo-Iweala of spending $2 billion from the ECA, a pool of funds which belonged to the three tiers of government.

OK LETS JUST ASSUME DAT WAT HE IS TRUE, D ONES DAT WAS SHARED AMONG D GOVERNORS WAT EXACTLY HAPPENED 2 THEM. CAN ANY OF THESE GOVERNORS GIVE A GOOD ACCOUNT HOW THEY SAVED OR SPENT D MONEY. I CAN BET U WITH MINE TEN FINGERS, DAT THESE GOVERNORS EMBEZZLED ALL THOSE MONEY.

Only a fool will bother about the words of that witch called Ngozi over this issue. Amaechi is simply right on point and we all knew what transpired during this period. Jonah-daft was a very reckless arsehole in aso rock. It is not a virtue when you are quick to appropriate all the credit when things are going well, but shift the blame when they go wrong. You blame the state governors— who, according to you, have taken the Federal Government to the Supreme Court—not that a Supreme Court judgment forced your hands. For your information, the governors have never agreed to savings and always threatened court action even under Obasanjo. Why did we save under Obasanjo but not under Jonathan? Two keywords explain it: leadership and integrity. Governor Amaechi said the governors insisted on sharing the funds because they found out that you were illegally fiddling with the savings. So, as Nigerians still wonder, if billions of dollars are now ‘missing’ under your nose, why should governors trust you to keep their money? Do the states that have taken the federal government to the Supreme Court and refused to save also include the PDP governors—who are in the majority? If so, then it is fatal: even governors of your own party, PDP, do not trust you to keep their money! Furthermore, did the governors also stop the Federal Government from saving part of its share? If you ran a surplus budget at the Federal level, you would have had credibility to blame others or to say they did not listen to your advice. The key point is that since you were running huge deficits yourself, it was also in your own interest to share the ECA. You did not show leadership or credibility, full stop!

Yaradua tried. At least we could see what he was doing. Maybe Nigeria would have been better if he had lived longer.
However, the governors are also part of the problem. The money that was shared, what did Amaechi do with it ? River State is richer than some African countries. What did Amaechi and all the governors do with the money ?

It is a pity that some APC traducers have misquoted and misinterpreted that statement by Okonjo-Iweala to “Jonathan lacked the political will to save” instead of government(governors) lacked the political will to save under Jonathan's administration, all just to paint Jonathan as a failure and poison the mind of Nigerians against him.

Now that Jonathan's govt have been vindicated by giving accounts of how its share was used the pertinent and rational questions now are,

• What did those governors(especially those plaintiffs that moved the motion and compelled FG to share the funds like Amaechi, Oshiomhole, Fashola) do with the astronomical share of the ECA that were disbursed to them?

• How much is currently in our Excess Crude Account considering that oil price has been undulating between $45 to $50 per barrel and the benchmark at $38?

Vindicated? by sharing the money among his fellow thieves masquerading as fuel marketers? still not the same marketers are been probed for fuel subsidy scam? SMH

Hypocrites are asking and demanding what the governors who probably collected less than 3% each of the total sum what they use the money for ignoring Jonah-daft and the witch Ngozi who got more than 52% of the sum. None of these fools is yet to ask these cursed duo what they did with 52% oooo
