Well said. Too bad more Nigerians can't see the sense in everything you've written. They'd rather waste days navigating death traps for "free" (or hours in queues for "cheap" petrol) rather than pay the fees that would be demanded by a well-run private operation - and God forbid it's run by foreigners (then the same "Nigeria for the Nigerians" people wonder why the indigenous cronies invariably make a hash of things)! The Nigerian addiction to false economies and government-run "solutions" seems impervious to both reason and bitter experience.

That's one thing I'll never understand about this place. After all the failures instead of embracing free markets the shun it for another government solution that fails. Economic freedom, property right, rule of law and access to credit. This is all you need for an economy to grow and prosper.

“But we don’t want investors to come to Africa to sell us iPhones and many expensive suits.
“We want to become productive, so we want this investment to come into infrastructure that will enable us to compete and really enable
Africans to stay in Africa.”

I dont know why i just like this statement.

There is little difference between an African who spends 500000 third world naira to buy an iPhone and the 16th Century African village chief who exchanged able bodied men and women for mirrors and perfumes.

they buy it because they are not getting stoned. instead, you will see them being celebrated by some half-wits all over social media. I read yesterday that "some youths" shut down bayelsa for what they called "persecution of the former president Jonathan's family". How shameless and unimaginative can the youths be?

This is one more clear eveidence that African leaders don't understand what constitutes development, and therefore, Africa will never develop for now.

Let me say this again..............

Infrastructure is not development itself, UNLESS we Nigerians are the ones building such infrastructures ourselves. Infrastructure is evidence of development, not the development itself. It is developed societies (human beings) that builds infrastructures, not infrastructures that build human beings.

African leaders please stop putting the cart before the horse!. Invest in true education first!!. Invest in human capital development first!!!. Re-invent education in Africa, a type of education that can create mass African scientists and engineers capable of building our infrastructures by ourselves.

Assuming we pay America or China to build us airports, roads, electricity, railways, that does not mean we've developed, because those facilities would decay in our hands within 10 years, and we would start over looking for anothe IMF and world bank to loan us more money to build another round of infrastructures that would yet decay again. And the process goes on forever. In fact, this is what have been going on in Africa since the so called indepedence.

Unless we re-invent education in Africa, learn SCIENCE and understand how to build and maintain our own infrastructures, we would keep on in this technological slavery.

African leaders are fools!!

I don't just get it. Must Nigeria's infrastructure develop only if foreigners invest in our country? What the heck have we been doing with all our monies, stolen right. Nonsense Leaders. The investment at the end will only provide infrastructure for the elites and not the yearning Nigerians
