Warns PDP to steer clear case
Says criminal must not be allowed to take over Nigeria

Former Minister of State for Education, Olorungun Kenneth Gbagi, on Monday, said that the operation of Department of State Service (DSS) that led to the arrest of some judges was commendable.
Gbagi, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan, labeled those criticizing the arrest of the judges as “the real enemies of the country.”

The former minister also told reporters in Abuja that he was particularly irked by the statement of the PDP condemning the action of the DSS.
He reminded the party that the issues which led to the arrest of the judges were not a party affair.
The DSS, he said, has made the country proud and should be commended by all lovers of the country.
He insisted that “with all respect, I do not believe that the DSS could have done anything better than they did.”
Criminal elements, he said, must not be allowed to take over the country under any guise.
He said, “Some judges have people whose job as lawyers is to get money to bribe judges. We must deal with the judiciary. Once we can deal with the judiciary 40 per cent of our problem is solved.
“I want to thank the Director General of the DSS. He has come to act in line with the responsibility the constitution bestowed on him. I congratulate him. The law gives him the power to break into any house for the purposes of effecting arrest. It does not matter whether it is Saturday or Sunday.
“Most Nigerians lack the courage and commitment to say how the nation should be run. Criminals have taken over the country and bought over everybody. Everything must be done to chase and pursue the criminals.
“A judge is the richest man in his village; his children are attending the best of schools outside the shores of this country; he has the biggest estate in town. Yet he does not sell nor do any business. What do you call that?”

Gbagi noted that some people were talking as if the arrest of alleged corrupt judges had not happened any where in the world.
He said that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested nine judges in the United States of America in 2013 for miscarriage of justice.
He added that in India many judges were also arrested for the same offence while some other judges were arrested in Ghana for corruption charges.

He noted that it had been confirmed that the arrested judges were invited by the DSS before the operation “but the judges have lawyers who wanted to go to court to obtain obnoxious injunctions to stop the DSS from carrying out its constitutional obligation.”
He said” “We were told that the judges wanted to delay till Monday to go and get injunctions from the court but the DSS acted faster and swooped on them.”

The former minister insisted that the DSS acted in line with the laws of the land warning that “we must not use technicalities to delay the course of justice.”
Asked how he will feel if the same treatment was meted to him when he was minister, Gbagi said that “those who live in glass house do not throw stone.”
He said: “I have served this country to the best of my ability, a thief is a thief. Those who have skeleton are those who are afraid. We must enthrone probity and accountability in this country. The DSS DG should be encouraged to ensure that he pursued the arrests to the logical conclusion. The DSS should do more work, deploy more professionals to tidy up the system.”

Every sane fellow commends this move by the DSS. Only the enemies of the country who have neither benefited nor would ever benefit from the loots are against the mode of arrest.

I don't know if they would say Policemen shouldn't arrest a gang suspected of armed robbery when found at the bar at night (say 12:30am).

I don't pity thieves!

This is beautiful!
I thank God that there are still honest people in the opposition who can stand up for the truth.
Corruption is corruption and must be killed before it kills this country.
We cannot continue to blame the president for the rot in the nation whereas the institutions that should asist the govt are frustrating all his efforts in the fight against corruption.
Any country with corrupt judiciary is finished and when you now add a corrupt national assembly what else do you expect??
Let us all stand up firmly and support this govt in this complex fight against corruption and secure a future for our children and the innocent unborn generations. If we don't get things right under this govt of PMB then we are finished as a nation.
God bless PMB for us !!!!

This is a blow to the low level bigots who take pride in opposing every move of Buhari just to spite him. Even Jonathan's ministers wished their ogas had the balls to . . . be that 'dictator'.

He said, “Some judges have people whose job as lawyers is to get money to bribe judges. We must deal with the judiciary. Once we can deal with the judiciary 40 per cent of our problem is solved.
Just like lecturer too have 'class rep' who help collect their own bribe.

We all know who the enemies are. They will do "ANYTHING " to undermine the Nigerian govt.....yet it's been over a year since the last election . But they have forgotten that ALL their votes even times 2 is but a measly 10 percent of total votes. Their best CANNOT help any party.

No one is stopping Buhari from fighting corruption, but fighting like a dictator and tyrannical autocrat is what we are not I support of. Everything should be done within the ambits and provisions of the law.

Buahri should understand what a democratic system of government is. I see the arrest of the alleged corrupt judges as a show of Shane and defamation of character

Wailers are not equal, some don't want Nigeria to fail...they just have love for Jona's humble facade and calm disposition & reminisce about him, and as humans with emotions, we all like what we like! There is freedom to do so.

However the dregs of the earth, the bottom slimes in a putrid barrel are the ones on NL, Twitter (there are very few exceptions) and Vanguard comment sections....

They abhor reading, and do not understand even when they manage to do(they probably can't comprehend anything beyond basic elementary as it seem) but feel the need to "oppose" cos the IB was opposed as well!!

What is wrong is wrong irrespective of who is involved. Judges too are Nigerians. Every sane citizen knows that what the DSS did is the right thing. These people have been scuttling every effort of the executive that is geared towards taming corrupt practices in the land. I stand with PMB and the DSS on this.

Reason is an average man will never get justice, only the rich will buy justice so they should be treated like rags so the other ones would be able to tighten up their belt..

You can only deceive yourself. You either stand for the war on corruption or stand against it.

What's dictatorial or tyrannical about arresting judges suspected to possess evidence of corruption?

Did the officers not have legally valid arrest warrants? Yes they did. That eliminates the alleged dictatorship.

Does the constitution prescribe the hour that arrests can be made? No. That eliminates the alleged tyranny.

Now did you know the DSS is constitutionally mandated to handle crimes of sabotage and espionage in Nigeria? That eliminates the obvious ignorance.

Peculiar problems beget peculiar solutions.

well said, nigerians are stubborn people, the only way to rig this nation of corruption is to tackle it aggressively with a little bit of jungle justice....if all this our polithiefcians can be flogged in public before b4 they are languished in jail,i think this is a perfect panacea to corruption

thieves are the new democrats, every honest Nigerian is now a tyrant, shame on that tribe that promotes criminality in their culture, what a shameful country to defend a thief because he is a judge. i can see so many nigerians have confused the meaning of democracy with liberty to steal. those judges are lucky am not among those that came for them. one guy described it well on twitter

Done within the law right So tell us what law the DSS broke in arresting the judge ? So breaking down doors to arrest an unwilling suspect amount to breaking of laws. Who knows, may na spare parts you dey sell, come here dey claim lawyer.
