I just unbox my mi5 on Monday and I discovered that
Xiaomi mi account can easily be changed by any intruder.
Just go to settings, click on mi account, change username and password easily.
Xiaomi no smart on this.
It should have asked for answers to security questions before change of password.
So if my phone is not yet locked and it got snatched by a thief, the phone is gone forever!

So xiaomi phones users must put "settings" in
"app lock" otherwise, phone is temporarily yours.
I'm disappointed but finger scanner make it easier.

Aside that, mi5 is like a beast. Very very fast and user friendly.
I've packed all my remote controls to stores cos the phone's infrared is even stronger than the remote's own.
That's what baffled my wife.

Camera 16mp but appears to be sharper than my Sony experia z3's 20.7mp.
Keyboard is fabulous.

I also ordered the headphone. It's louder and clearer than Sony experia z3's headphone.
No heating. Battery : poor.
Can't customise notification pane.
I'm glad I can block frequent and annoying calls and messages from mtn - experia z3 don't have it.

It's a very good phone to have but battery spoil the show.

Ordered thru kulimart.

You cannot do a factory reset without knowing the password to your Xiaomi account. Even on a laptop or any gadget, if you want to change a password, you'll have to first enter the old password.

The security feature is far far smarter than you think. First you can't just change a password randomly. Then even if any thief succeeds in changing the password, he has not even scratched anything regarding being tracked. He is all yours if you want to catch him because there's no way he can change the mi account id.

As you can see there is an option for security question.

If the thief go to mi account to sign out so that he can erase the data on the phone, it will ask for password.
Click "forgot password" and in the process, he'll get to set new password, erase the data on phone.
Go to mi cloud and uncheck "find device".
